It is NOT perfect by any stretch of the imagination. When I think autoattack, I think balanced. This is not balanced. Not only is it buggy (I can hit enter as much as 10 times before the game recognizes I'm trying to engage with an enemy) the design itself still needs to be polished.
I liked being able to engage an enemy by pressing 1, not pressing one a million times, but once was reeeeally good. It was intentional, and meant that even though I'm targeting something with my weapon out, I'm not automatically killing it.
As it's been a while, I do miss how the description of the spell no longer pops up. Curaga is a bit wonky, I'm not a huge fan of the lag between each hit (Having to rely so heavily as a con on casting spells when my bars can't even hold that many spells with the new upgrade to Cure, which I find absolutely OBNOXIOUS.)
If instead they had kept AoE toggle, and adjusted the MP cost for AoE vs Non-AoE, which they might already have done, that would have been ideal.
Things I'd change:
1. bring engagement back to the tool bar.
2. Fix targeting, remove clicking anywhere around the name tag of a character/creature the target. It's impossible as is right now to target something when someone has just stepped in front of you. I end up cycling between things 20 feet in front of me, to things 20 feet behind me, and everytime they move they re-arrange themselves in my toggle list.
3. This is just something I'd hope for to cut down on how many bars i'll need, but bring back the AoE toggle. It's not as cumbersome as people like to believe it is. If anything, having double the cure spells on my bar is even more so. I may as well not even use regular cures now, they've all been replaced by their -ga brothers to save space and time.
4. Sacrifice is no longer AoE? I guess that's....o...k I suppose.
Do I get supreme joy out of spamming one attack continuously? No, I don't, but I like to switch between light and heavy strike at my leisure. I liked being able to NOT attack to conserve stamina and then release a flurry if I chose. Maybe I just wanted to lay off to let someone else take enmity. Well, that's not a concern since I don't have that choice anymore. It's weird that you would assume that just because I complain about not being able to spam the basic attack that is all that I did.
I suppose I could stop attacking by doing more stuff than it takes to attack, but it shouldn't take more steps to do nothing. That's ridiculous.
I want more control over my character. It is also part of the game that I BOUGHT. This auto attack garbage which is poorly implemented is NOT part of the game I bought, and if they're selling a game in stores, I do not accept that it is still "in beta". That's just nonsense.
Yeah, I dislike how I can target an enemy cast a buff and BAM now I'm fighting. Fighting should start when you perform an offensive action. This target to start thing is bananas.
