Well, I was hoping that because 1000 gil is so easy to get, it would promote people doing the duty roulette, beastmen quests, leves, treasure maps and other means of making that easy gil with friends; instead of simply having an RMT trade you 1000 gil.

If SE inserted your idea while also keeping gil gain the same as it is now, gil would become completely meaningless. And the economy in game wouldn't be bad... it would be non-existent. You have to know that your idea is bad... I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be mean, but come on man... it's bad.

The only way to stop RMT would be to remove trading ... completely. No Gil, no items no market place ... nothing.

1000 gil cap would make no sense at all unless EVERYTHING (including quest rewards and the like) where adjusted to compensate for holding so little gil. Then RMT would sell 1000 gil for like $100. You wouldn't solve anything, you would just piss people off.

I figured that...if the gil rewards from quests, leves, ect were kept almost the same as they are now that people would favor doing activities to easily cap their gil; rather than pay someone for a measly 1000 gil.

Man, someone is supposed to mention you can get around the 1000-character limit by editing posts within the first five replies. Slackers.

Even in the magical alternate universe where these changes wouldn't lead to an absolutely dead economy, I would hate to be the leader of an FC with more than like a dozen members with this kind of thing in place. Or a member of one, for that matter. Automatic, inescapable, system-enforced drama FREE with every FC charter!

To be fair, no.
Even if there would be no currency or other trading methods, there is money to be made in a MMORPG.
Instead of currency they'd just try to make money out of item drops and powerleveling and other services people are willing to pay real money for.

Under this system, there would be no real incentive to sell items on the Market Board. If you can't save your money (for high-level crafted gear, housing, rare minions that you don't want to farm yourself, whatever cool things might be coming in future expansions) even with your retainer, there's no reason to make money. Especially if, as you propose, gil earned from questing and the like is still similar to what it is now. If you can cap gil easily, where's the incentive for earning it in the first place?

I also agree with the others - RMT will still happen, they'll just find things other than gil to sell.
