Jumping puzzles were fun.. and to the guy on the first page saying he quit because of jumping puzzles.... who quits over an optional puzzle? thats like not doing your homework because the bonus question is too hard.
Anyways, anyone who has played GW2 should be able to tell that FFXIV's jump wasnt designed for anything like that. in GW2 your jump distance depends on how long you hold the button down, and can even change direction mid jump. FFXIV's jump is static. youre either jumping straight up, forward a set distance, or backwards a set (much smaller) distance, also, we get very little height. Jumping puzzles in this game would suck. Jump was only included to stop people from crying that you cant jump.. this is why jumping does nothing but saves you 2 seconds from having to find an opening in a fence, and only if the fence is lower than your knees. or tiny rocks. not even sure why this game has fences that small anyway.
I think jumping puzzles (and other types of puzzles) would be good to have, but only in side quests or to acquire "fun" items like minions and silly hats. Enough MMO players really, really hate them that having them as part of progression would drive people away.
Since this game has the worst jump-control system i've ever seen; Jump-content would need to be limited to purely optional things or "jump to avoid the tremor attack" style mechanics where you can jump in place.
And honestly, i wouldn't mind either of those things, as long as the avoidance mechanic wasn't on one of the bosses "avoid or die" moves.
Haha so many people mad over jumping puzzles in here just cause they are bad at them.
that's because we want things that are a challenge, as long as its nothing challenging lol..
I loved Jumping Puzzles in GW2, and the smaller secret nooks/dungeons you could uncover by exploring. I don't think this type of content exactly absolutely needs to be in the game, but being able to turn the corner and discover some secret area or hard to reach view would be a really nice feature to have in FFXIV. Like another poster said, the world does seem flat and having some more vertical movement would be nice.
Definintely enjoyed jumping puzzles in GW2 and really loved how they incorporated them into some of the main content so it didn't feel like just a random feature. I don't, however, feel that it would be a great thing to have in FFXIV as it suited the more arcade style of GW2. On that note though, I think any game that allows jumping should actually have some use for it aside from short-cutting a set of stairs. I personally don't want to see jumping puzzles in FFXIV, but I would like to see instances where it is required to access areas or avoid mechanics in fights (something like jumping off the main platform onto a side platform to avoid a charged attack).
Unless they fixed their HORRIBLE jumping system jumping puzzles wouldn't really work that well. As it stands right now you need to start running to jump any distance. If you jumped and tried to move forward you stay in the same spot. I'm all for them though since I enjoyed them somewhat in GW2.
