I think this is a Sting Operation... have ridiculous pricing and watch the RMT money flow...
There are billions of dollars in circulation in a particular city, I'm sure most families can afford a cheap 615 million house. What are you poor and can't get a job? If there's so much money in circulation surely you can get most of those billions easily, you're just too lazy, such entitlement these days.
Oh but what's that you say, a videogame takes time and effort and you're glad everything isn't handed to you and you have stuff to look forward to? I'm glad you mentioned that dear fellow, I love paying for content that's just been introduced but I won't really get to experience it until many months after it's been introduced, such great value for my monthly subscription money. I'm glad they introduced it for the very small of hard and elite working population that worked the hardest making exorbitant amounts of well deserved botting money and that can even afford two, two whole tier 1 houses!, despite the content being advertised as casual friendly by both the devs and the community that keeps reminding everyone that the game isn't all about the gear.
But then again, there is absolutely no way to take into account such circumstances, there are FCs with 3 members only, if FC housing is made affordable for them, it'll be ridiculously cheap for an FC with 300 members.
IMO, FC housing is a status symbol and as any status symbol, it is typically restricted to those of the upper echelon, for everyone else, there is always the personal housing.
FC housing is not a residential house per se, it is more like a guildhouse aka clubhouse.
I fail to understand what you're asking for, you're suggesting to make FC housing affordable to individual or a couple of close friends as contributing to a FC housing belonging to a FC of a stranger is too risky? this yields 2 issues from how I see it,
1. you're suggesting to make FC housing equivalent in practice to personal housing
2. if you cannot trust your FC leader, why stay in the FC?
the arguments against the FC housing's costs is mired by the persistent misconception that the costs is to be borne by an individual or a small group of players, this i believe isn't what the FC housing is geared towards as it is designed to be more of a collective effort where the burden of the cost is shouldered collectively by the majority of the FC members.
Even the most efficient FC would have trouble paying 600mil+ just willy nilly. Many people find it hard to get into the millions, let alone the tens of millions and beyond. SE must've been high that day. All of them.
If all FC had 500 people there would only be 20 per server. FC chat would be spamming by so fast no one could read it.
Dunbar's number
By using the average human brain size and extrapolating from the results of primates, he proposed that humans can only comfortably maintain 150 stable relationships.
I personally think a lot less for the Online people that have social interaction issues to begin with.
personally I would say I have about 50. IRL and another 50 online. that keeps my social life kind of busy to begin with.
500 person LS are stupid and pointless.
Seeing as that one went far over your head, I'll try explain it...
Whiteknights are defending the prices by comparing them to real life house mortages and saying there are more people in a FC to pay for a house, so no reason to whine about the price.
But theese whiteknights dont have 100 people living in their RL house to pay for it. See the conflict?
And considering that SE are only releasing 8 man endgame content, FC's wont be recruiting hundreds of players, as there is no point in managing that large a FC, when you only need very few players for endgame.
So that forces theese small FC's having to gather a ton of gil together, if they want a house, even it being a small only (on legacy servers).
Making friends in a MMO is important, but do bear in mind, that this is still the internet. And internet friendship is just as trustworthy as a mysterious brown bag on a doorstep with a bad smell to it.
Looking back at FFXI, there were a good deal of Dynamis leaders, who would completely screw over their LS, once it had earned enough currency for either his relic stuff, or just for gil.
So if we should go by the logic of SE and whiteknights here, and form 500 member FC's in order to make a large 1st class house easier to get, then what stops a single FC leader to just kick everyone out, once they have the house?
Sure, you make FC's with friends... But if you want a larger FC to make a large house cheaper, you need to recruit strangers and use this "internet trust" thing ya know... the brown bag.
Hell even small FC's right now, might start recruit tons of players, then once they have their house, they kick all the strangers out again, and just keep the house with their friends.
1. I'm not suggesting to make FC housing equivalent in practice to personal housing... not really sure how you got that outta my post.
2. How many FC leaders can you actually trust 100%, if he/she is not already a good friend?
Sure, become a FC leader yourself, but then why should I trust you as FC leader?

Q: Roughly how much will housing cost including the furnishings and interior designs?
A: I think that maybe 4-5 players, each with one level 50 class could probably buy a house if they put all of their earnings together.
But hey, I guess what we heard directly out of Yoshi's mouth was really just a misconception, and obviously our english teachers has failed us terribly, as 4-5 people is obviously not a "small group" at all.
i'm going to give it another month, but if they don't even speak of any damage control from this bullshit, i'm out.
my sub is up for renewal tomorrow and i'll be damned if i do 180 or even 90 days...
