There has been an official response to this current lagging issue on skys forum and they have confirmed that the problem lies with level 3 server in Montreal. You read what the rep has said here..

sky user here, been havin lag problem since 14th jan.
No lag issue anymore since 22th Jan 4pm. Back to normal for me.

Issue resolved for me I've done WP, CT and the coil no lag :)

Balmung here. West coast North America. Lag has been increasingly worse throughout January. It's not my internet, other online games play fine. My PS3 has a static IP and both PSN and FFXIV are port forwarded through. The game is simply unplayable. Even quest dialogue causes the red squiggle icon to appear above my character and the game doesn't respond for up to 3 minutes sometimes. If I'm in a FATE the aforementioned red squiggle icon will appear instantly and I'll rubber-band around after a futile effort to do weapon skill combos on mobs. (They don't chain when you're constantly, partially disconnecting). Any dungeons I'd want to play are impossible to participate in.
Please fix this SE. There's issues with your servers.

Diablos server, Northeast Ohio. Been having the same issues ever since 2.15 was released, constant lag and r0ing. Duty finder is impossible to use as I just r0/dc the whole time.
I tried everything SE's Auto-Response suggested, wired connection, wireless, direct connected, proxy, port-forwarding, etc. Time Warner cable insist everything is fine on their end. I'm able to play other gams such as ffxi and nearly all free-to-plays with out any problems.

Since nearly 10 days on Phoenix server i got serious latency, game is unplayable i m from italy with fastweb operator... The problem is only with ffxiv.. Before all went ok.. Is It a general problem? Game Is fantastic btw, But Is frustrant that i cannot play.

NY - Verizon Fios
It has been hell since the 2.1 patch in December. Stop and go lag spikes. I'm surprised that SE hasn't really made any comment or addressed this issue as highly important. Yes, new content for the game is great and all, but quite honestly... what good is new content when virtually all of Verizon Fios customers cannot even play due to lag.

I have same issues at times, im not a sky customer tho, im on Virgin Media 100+mb/s fibre, UK player on Sargatanas and suffer some severe lag at times, most noticeably in the Coil lately, i swear down im outside those threat circles yet slight pause of character onscreen and BOOM im dead, not only frustrating for me but also highly annoying for rest of my static as im useless to them if im lying dead on floor most of the fight, there is nothing wrong with my connection, any other game i play is lag free, and my connection even shows up as excellent on character selection screen, oh and on top of that im guaranteed at least one 90k error a day, usually around the time the USA comes online......

i concur. although, its not to bad from my connection from lancashire/england, the game is so much more playable using a private gamers network (wtfast).
