At this point we're just running in circles over and over again. Same opinions, same accusations, same excuses. I hope the feedback gathering comes to an end and we get an official statement.

One thing they might take into consideration is that a lot of people like to fantasia. Some people fantasia quite frequently just for variety. New races are all shiny and new and will definitely be popular fantasia targets for a lot of people.
Therefore male Viera and female Hrothgar are technically profitable. Even if they cost extra resources, they could potentially consider it a worthwhile investment. It also gives that "we care about our fans" impression which is great advertisement.
So I am now beginning to wonder how that feedback observation and response writing is progressing...
Same here! I am anxiously following this topic, but I do really want them to take as much time as needed to look through all of our comments. I don't mind waiting for the male viera/female hrothgar as long as they give us a quality product.
Imagine if genderlocked races are april fools and we suddenly see the other genders on benchmark xD
Hmm they can be twinks and resemble men, there are many men and all of them are different. Roegadyns resemble men as much as catboys
Probably because we are the bigger thread and therefor the bigger target. But I also think it might be that some of these people correlate people who want a more feminine male to those who throw a fit over representation (and I am talking about the toxic stuff you often see on tumblr) and think they can get the rise they want out of us. In reality we are not that and just average joes that want male vieras. I also think that perhaps, some of these people are a tad uncomfortable with the aspect of having a less masculine male in this game.
I have been reading and informing myself and it seems like the press itself is angry with this decision (there are a lot of articles about players not being happy with genderlock), there are players everywhere wearing male bunny ears as a form of protest(on Zodiark at least) and I don't even want to begin to talk about the comments they recived on other social medias for the anouncement of genderlock, so I think that we are actually a majority who want male viera, and not the minority most people who don't want it seem to say we are:cool::cool::cool:
Basically #2 of what Crush said. You come into the thread and just drop down a statement and add nothing to it to back it up why it was said, and instead just go with "I don't feel like going into my reasons." Then why speak up at that point? It can be misconstrued as trying to start shit or act toxic towards those who just want to see a promise upheld from 2.0 and an eagerly awaited race gender.
Now I will admit that I may have jumped the gun there with claiming you were acting on intentions of toxicity, which I can see is not true and I do apologize.
Yeah, the anti-male Viera crowd are only throwing the phrase "vocal minority" around as a petty way to delegitimatize our opinion. They will call us a "vocal minority" no matter how untrue that is and then in the same breath say that "no one wants to see a bunch of male bunnies running around", implying there would be a ton of people changing to male Viera. So they can't even make up their minds on whether we are a so called "minority" or not. If anything, this thread has proven we are not a minority. They act like we're the ones being childish, and yes, a few pro-Viera people have been, but they want to pretend like most of us are. Really, I've seen most of the childish behavior coming from the anti-Viera side.
In fact, I have never seen any subject get more attention than this. Its quite clear we want genderock removed as soon as possible. Let's not discard the possibility that (coming from a person who has worked in game development) there is plenty of time to remove at least one of the genderlocks before launch, but they would have to be fast, work hard and really smart, so maybe they remove the genderlock on one of the races (probably the most requested one) and thenn in a later patch (such as 5.1 or 5.2) they remove the remaining genderlock
They're pulling that of a certain somewhere. Or the usual "but the JP crowd isn't so bothered about this." I'm not sure if that's true or not, but what does it even matter? The NA/EU playerbase is substantial - is it hard to believe that a highly anticipated race's male sex option would not be desired by at least a substantial enough minority (=$$$) for SE to rise up and take notice?
Also I really hope they make an official statement this week. It is getting quite annoying that they seem to have taken 6 days to write a letter saying: there will be genderlock removal:confused:
You know I am also tired of the argument of 'but the JP crowd' so what! If this doesn't bug them, then okay cool they have different standards. But these threads exist in the JP threads and I have a few friends that know Japanese that have stated there is a strong sense of disappointment. And that's another problem with the whole anti-Viera crowd who are trying to use the JP audience as a crutch to stand on. They show their disappointment different from us! But even then, NA and EU most likely bring in just as much as JP if not more subs at this point. So Square Enix cannot just sweep us under the rug as we are just a noisy group of players. What, because we don't freaking originate from Japan we suddenly have a less of a say on a game that we love and support? Screw that!
Nonsese, to be honest. They look only at the fact that they have only one thread on forum and it's 13 pages which is "meh" for them I suppose. Meanwhile, JP forum isn't very active overall and their section is 5 time smaller than EN (DE and FR are nearly dead). So, looking at how much they usually write and how much likes posts there usually have I can say that JP community is bothered. But there is no any fights, they are calm and polite.
I personally would be dissatisfied with such a general announcement, and they would be wrong to release it without more details like at least a time frame. As Yoshida said and we're all aware of it, it's a massive undertaking. They'd need to allocate resources, be it from the team itself or backups SE would allocate, and those things take time to plan out internally, all the more so if they truly will receive outside help. And to get that, it means they need to properly put together all the feedback, all the data from people who already cancelled their preorders and their subscriptions, so they can come to SE higherups and say "look, this is already costing us money, help us fight this".
I should hope we'll get a statement along those lines during April, certainly before ShB itself is released. It would make sense for them to do so because then they can still enjoy some extra orders, be it from people rebuying it or just people who waited until after the Fanfests and now would think it's 'safe' enough to buy.
But anything less than that would be irresponsible of them.
I think you are right. Maybe they are getting help and if they let time run a bit more, more people unsubscribe and such, they might get enough help so they can remove genderlock before launch (SE has enough employees to do it if they want to). Thanks for pointing it out to me! ^^
I finally made a forum account because of the way the new races shook out, so I could voice my support for seeing Male Viera and Female Hrothgar added to the game.
I really enjoy FFXIV, but the announcement of adding gender-locked races did disappoint me and put a damper on my excitement for Shadow Bringers since I was looking forward to seeing Viera added and finally seeing Male Viera.
I appreciate Yoshi P taking the time to explain their reasoning further behind the race choices after Tokyo Fan Fest, and I can understand the reasons he laid out in Mr. Happy's interview much better than the lore reason he mentioned on stage. Lore-wise we shouldn't have Female Viera either since it's forbidden to leave the forest. But the Viera lore for FFXIV was written to reflect the fact that cultures change, individuals make choices against their culture, the youth make different choices than their parents and grandparents, and the Warrior of Light is a unique individual to whom regular conventions don't apply. I don't see any reason lore would prevent Male Viera from being playable, there are so many wonderful stories that could be told to explain why they've finally come out of the shadows.
So I really hope they add them, and Female Hrothgar, down the road. It's not realistic to expect them to be in at Shadow Bringer's launch, and I wouldn't want to rush the Devs like that anyways. But I hope come 6.0 they get added. The devs work hard, I don't mind being patient :)
Hey there! I had never posted here and I can't read all that because of time ;A; but a a lot of people told me to post my male viera explorations I did just for fun in here! :) hope y'all like it!

Some art I stumbled upon on reddit:

It is nice art, but I like the one in the upper half of the picture best.
I'm personally hoping Viera look like this art work by FrischeNq! So much so, I made it my signature!

Elezen are just so stiff, their rectangular shaped bodies don't look very good and make alot of gear look meh imo. They are like... Long Midlanders and their Faces are pointed and not nearly as strong as I would like! Also they have necks for days! Really to me the only similarity between Elezen and Viera would be that they are tall!
I would love for them to be more athletic and masculine looking then Elezen, more elegant!
Again didnt even care or read what i said. Care about old content. I love how people are ungrateful no matter what they get. Its understandable that you want male viera. I actually want it too, but whining and calling SE Homophobic is not the answer. LOL it makes me laugh even more and make it not happen because of people acting like clowns and responding that way. I Hope it never happens because when people go SJW I just dont care anymore even if it means I lose out on seeing adorable bunny bishonens. They do indeed cater to people otherwise we wouldnt even have goddamn same sex marriage in the first place. Do no one remember the Pride Parades when it was finally announced and released? I even joined because my cousin is gay and I love him, Im proud of him and Ill always stand by his side, but calling people homophobic and being spiteful because of a decision you were never entitled to in the first place is stupid. No what we are entitled to is GOOD content for gameplay, like Blitzball and not toxic instances like Eureka.
I am SO GLAD YOU DID OH MY GOODNESS. In the second image all those faces are marvelous. The bottom middle is my absolute favorite. White, flowing viera hair in luxurious dreads and braids? SIGN ME THE F*CK UP. The middle top one looks young, the one on the right a more mature viera. The left one is also pleasantly beastly and that'd make them look SO unique!!
Er, you’re probably in the wrong thread bud, literally no one typing in here is bringing up homophobia.
I’d recommend you to go back and read it through, and then return. Most of us in here have practically called the claims of sexism and homophobia ridiculous.
You’re just jumping in here and pinning opinions on us when we’re literally just discussing male Viera, designs and our feedback for Yoshi and co.
I have never been let down by XIV until now. I was planning on playing the entire ex-pac as Male Viera and the disappointing truth is now I can't because Square got cold feet. Lore is the weakest excuse to hide behind that they could possibly have used. Please, please, PLEASE make Males happen!
Hey guys remember a page ago when I said the anti-Viera crowd thinks we're a bunch of tumblr-ites shrieking for representation and I guess now homophobia when we aren't in this thread. That didn't took long to prove my point. So okay, you come into a mostly positive thread and then say you hope we don't get something because you assume we are claiming it for SJW reasons. Your kinda cutting yourself from the same cloth, methinks.
ok so alot to unpack here
1. I have never EVER called the devs homophobic or sexist DO NOT LUMP ME WITH PEOPLE WHO DO TY so don't bring it up in a reply to me as well ty
2. Its impossible to please everyone period you hate Eureka i like Pyros/Hydatos so why are you allowed to voice when you don't like something(Eureka) but i can't (Gender locks on Viera AND Hrothgar)
3. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO HAVE BLITZBALL AND YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO TAKE AWAY CONTENT NOR ARE YOU ENTITLED TO DEMAND CONTENT NOT BE WORKED ON
4. you just made me go Yzma
