reading dev posts are hard
Just wait up for the endgame contents and more party play stuff, he did mention that once the battle system's foundation is built they can start working on all these kind of stuff. Without the base battle system, adding more end game content could be a huge risk to the game. He's not planning to make this game only for casual players, he know their are different play styles for everyone and he's going for all but you have to understand with a broken game like FFXIV they have to do it right or it's just going to get worse, and it might make the hardcore players even more pissed off with the end result if done wrong.
From game programmers point of view I rather have the root system, libraries all set up correctly so it's easier to work on the actual functions, how the program will run. Rather than making the program first then building the libraries, then going back to the program and try to figure out how to fix it so it runs better with the better coding, in some cases might be too hard to go back to fix + fixing might break other things and requires more work in the end.
Can't think of good real life example...lol; can only think of ideas with food.... I'm hungry damn it...
1 Thank you this post give me a peace of mind about it just being casual/solo :( i love to solo 1-10 but once you reach 10 am more in to party like FFXI. FFXI was my first real MMO play it for 6years and doing so i only know one way of playing a mmo i can't stand wow, rift or aion battle system, art work overall how the game look so you can say ffxi sarred me into liking that type of game play only.
my hope is that party play is lucrative enough that it makes people want to take the time to form a party. if you can level a character up playing alone just as fast as you could in a party than why would anyone spend their time to make a party? if party play isnt MORE lucrative than solo play than party play wont happen. it takes a lot of time and effort to make parties, and many times its wasted when there arent enough of the appropriate jobs to form a party.
without a lot of people invested into making parties happen, they wont. having 10 people looking for a party makes partying unpractical - what are the chances that within those 10 players there is a healer, blocker, support and enough damage? and then whats the chance that theyre all within the same level range? its not very high.
without a lucrative party system that pushes people towards wanting to party with others the party system falls apart. the only place that you see parties forming in any game is where being in a party is much better than being alone. and though thats not to say playing alone has to be a horrible waste of time, it just cant be nearly as fast as partying.
without a party i find myself alone for hours killing the same mob, barely talking to anyone and i dont want to sit by myself and kill the same mob for hours on end, i would much rather be with friends or some random people that i can joke around with while i level up my characters. if ffxiv doesnt have party play at its core it probably wont be the game for me, and while a few may disagree with me ill still keep my hopes up and keep checking in from time to time to see how the game changes. to see if the game can incorporate party play in a meaningful way.
I'm not sure if it's been stated, but in the leve redo, is the timer shortened? I think those would be good daily content.
I think I've read that it'll be thrown out of the game soon.
It won't be discarded. At least not anytime soon. They are remaking leves to essentially be a solo-play oriented content instead of it being the center of the game. Leves are going to be a lot less important than they are now, but they are not going to be discarded.
