Don't worry about it...sorry I did not catch that part at the end..lol I was too angry with being called elite >.< I understand what you are saying how it can come off that way... a lot of folks got frustrated with feeling trapped and helpless because no one would be willing to help each other out, which shocked me at first. That is why I made it one of my goals to help people..especially those who have been shouting for hours. It was really awful to see :( Anyway yeah, no problem!!

Funny side story. I did the same thing made a ls at the start of xi solely created for players to help each other. We did well for a year and a half before I went to boot camp. Had a lot of friends and fun times. The problem was.... I got out of boot camp... 2 months.... Everyone was ok to wait and not move on we all enjoyed our company. My gf at the time decided behind my back with "my authority" at least thats what she told them. Made her own ls inviting only a few people she liked. So i came back to a dead empty shell and lost a lot offriends because of this... Lol. Pissed me off a good bit... She made it a "her friends only shell" instead of a help people shell.... Anywayssss lol

If your schedule/lifestyle isn't suited for XI end-game, then just don't do it. We all knew that XI endgame back in the days was really time consuming.

It has nothing to do with the fact of being Elitist or not. If you don't have the time do something, having skills doesn't matter. This is a MMO, time/schedule regularity is in direct relationship with what you can achieve endgame wise.

If you only want to rely on your skills and -not- on the time/regularity, then go play a competitive multiplayer game that's not an MMO. You won't have to log on at specific time in order to progress. You play when you decide to play.

XI actually is one those MMO who enabled endgame linkshell to work fine even with players who cannot commit regularly to events.

- Anything in open areas (Sky/Sea) could be done with an unlimited amount of players.
- For HNMs, having over an alliance was never a waste (swap people who died, take care of any potential add, send another party in advance to another HNM that is about to spawn etc.).
- Dynamis was up to 36~64 (Tav was a bit special with 18) and most of Linkshells did not have 36+ players always online...
- Limbus groups can be splitted and different alliance can be made in order to collect chip faster.

I probably forgot a lot of content.

Now if you take a look at modern MMOs, the "norm" is to have raids with a set amount of players that isn't scalable by any mean. A raid-20 is made for 20 players, not 19, not 21.
With 19 (unless you are not progressing anymore or unless your guild is exceptional), you will wipe.
With 21, one will stay outside.
No possibility to invite someone else (outside guild) due to lockouts, so at the best case you can invite someone that isn't raiding with another guild, but it can be pretty messy...

The system is really rigid, not allowing players with a busy schedule to take part in raiding. It's either you can commit, either you don't raid in a guild (at least not the latest content).

....I think you've all gotten the point?

i think the problem was with people not getting help is being in bad linkshells, or being in ones where everyone had completed those things. it's the worst part of mmo linkshells and guilds. it's like all the people who play 10hrs a day are seperated into shells, all the people who just started seem to think they should be in shells that have 0people in them that aren't vets that done everything 100times.

the problem isn't the game its grouping up with the right people. near the last few years maybe SE needed to create a linkshell system for new joiners to auto join together or something. there was something like that in warhammer when you first start your already in a guild and then when ready you can drop it. but what a place to really find friends though that are in same places.

but even vets had to shout for things, i know i did it alot but i didn't mind it at all. like for missions i'd look for people that are in the same mission and spam every single one in tells and then write down all the people willing to join and get them together by the end of the day. really a pain though for people with little time. the way mmo's are adding server to server auto join fixes most these problems most likely. as was stating above, it's really a problem of everyone with like minds or positions in the game all being scattered, different servers, different linkshells. if they fix this it would of lightened the load of these issues even in ffxi.

i still loved everything about that game though, sorry you had so many issues. it is probably why i rush threw all new content in any patch or expansion in any mmo right away. you can do it without hassle, used to have people be like i don't' want to do anything for this expansion i still need last expansion stuff. it's like well do this first lol, you gonna have the same issues again. >< ...people don't even need to shout, you literally can show up at spots even and get a full pt and do things that later would take hours or days to shout for later. but i still think it's a worthy sacrifice to not kill off any content for the sake of the few or the lazy. put them all together and it would fix this.

lastly what the poster above says i agree, a mmo or the way mmo's work shouldn't change over people who don't understand how time consuming a mmo can be. if not have the time that means you should take years instead of months to do something. well you got your monies worth. don't go and take everyone elses 12bucks a month and make it worth 3bucks worth cause it needs to get 4times as easy.

yoshi-p already said he is aiming for a theme park mmorpg. in essence even if you have 1-2 hours to play, you'll still feel like you've accomplished a lot or made progress to call it a day and had fun.

If that's what you think the current conversation is about at all your terribly mistaken. I don't think anyone said anywhere that the entire game was soloable, it begun as a discussion around a good MMO having a balance of activities that a diverse ammount of people could play.

There is Solo play (Crafting, Gathering, solo quests)
Small Group Play (Party, NM hunting, quests)
Large group play (HNM, Dynamis, Einheriar)
Freeform group play (Besieged, Campaign)

There needs to be a good balance so that people can play even when they don't have a raid to do, so people have something other to do when the game is on than raid and then log out. People sometimes want to be engaged outside of a instanced dungeon...it's crazy I know but it's what worked in older MMOs.

Oh I have seen that happen so many times with LS's sadly ; ; lol I would often have to stop playing too due to hospital trips and just life issues and such and I would come back to an empty shell and one of my "friends" took all the LS mates and made their own shell >.> I said oh well and made another one lol. After I was done with HNM I also made a shell to help newbies hehe it was a lot of fun :) I hope I can do the same thing in ARR!
