The average Duty Finder tank.
Just got out of a roulette that I realized I should have jumped ship on.
Signed up for leveling roulette, and it rolls Sunken Temple of Quarn. Party is drk, nin, nin, and me on sch. The two nin are geared enough (both were 65+) and the drk was 45ish. I pop protect and realize the drk has some very exposed butt...and realized after checking him was wearing at best a lvl 42 leather bottom, everything else was your standard-white 30 plate slot, and your standard lvl 1 gear on the right. Alright, I thought, maybe he's a cautious puller.
Nope, he ain't. After the first trash pack I realize either he's an end-game experienced puller, or really, really, REALLY impatient. I then realize he's only got a handful of 70s, none of which are tanks or jobs that require patience. Second trash pull he pulls what mobs are left alive and proceeds to pull the mobs in the next room, including the two bees. Despite my spamming cures and Eye, he almost died. I don't think he realized that nins don't get Death Blossom until 42, and the poor nin in 60 af was desperately spamming ninjutsu.
First boss goes down as normal, second corridor he pulls everything to him in the middle of the room, and at the very last second gets over to the switch. The doors pop open and we kill the heads on their pedestals, and realize the nin in doman enclave attire run off without grabbing the tablets from the corner rooms, and the drk follows suit. The pull to the second boss room was normal thankfully, and the second boss goes down without a hitch.
The pulls are normal until we get to the room with the tablet switch doors, to which the tank proceeds to open every one. Mind you none of us had picked up the tablets at all, so mobs spawned instead. I gave a '?' in chat, but no response from anyone. He then does the same thing to one of the doors leading to the boss room, and the doman nin opens the second one. Suddenly there's 12-odd mobs beating on everyone, and since I'm grabbing aggro healing people, I bring them back over to the tank to peel off. I did not realize the croc that was still alive had turned around and was using Tail Swipe until realizing a second too late that I was still in the aoe zone. I'm smacked for 99% of my hp and stunned. Meanwhile the tank had not bothered to pop any defense cooldowns and was almost dead. I turn to heal him and despite my spam, dies. I then try to keep the other two nin alive as they kite, and get the tank back up, only for the doman nin to die. I had to wait till I had more mp to get her back up. Once that was done and the mobs were dead, he then proceeds to mass pull all the mobs down the hallway. Just as the last one dies, the doman nin pokes the scales and spawns more mobs. After we kill them, the drk briefly heads for the usual side loot room and realizes there's a wall in the way, and gives up by heading back into the boss room.
At least the boss went down quickly. I don't remember nope'ing out of an instance end so fast.
Ooooooh, nothing gets me peeved like a Castrum Fluminis party constantly standing north in front of the boss and, when adjusting so the tank buster doesn't cleave everyone to death, the lone DRG moves back finally only to get cleaved and gets all mad about it.
also everyone splitting off into a bunch of fans and dying
Not Duty Finder, but an elite mark "hunt train".
It's peak time and the crowd is growing.
We're halfway through, waiting for everyone to arrive to fight the Oni Yumemi, and.... suddenly it's not there any more. Evidently the game has hit its "maximum objects on screen" limit and the arrival of the crowd has left a lot of people unable to see the boss.
What follows is a brief but fascinating exercise in crowd motion, as we collectively navigate to where we think it was, or attempt to follow the people who look like they know what they're aiming at.
(It turns out to have moved well to the left of where it was before it vanished, so it took a few tries of moving back and forth across the area before we found it again.)
Honestly its more frustrating with a slow pulling tank, esp when that tank is in fully melded top tier hq crafted gear, savage raid and new tome gear. When you so heavily outgear a dungeon and refuse to pull more than 1-3 mobs at a time you are not tanking you are trolling because you should have no issues at that point. These tanks not only pull 1 pack at a time, in places like the burn where 1 random mob appears here and there they literally stop in place and refuse to pull more than just that 1 single mob. So basically they just want to hold up the pt because as a tank they feel they can.
We have actually vote kicked the tank more than once either just before or after the first boss in expert dungeons lately, esp during peak times, since you have to wait less time for a decent replacement tank than it would take for the cumulative time added do to intentionally slow pulls.
Healers can be the most vindictive tho, ive seen it more than once recently, the healer will initiate a vote kick just before the last boss and then make a statement about "you waste my time I waste yours" after or just before they leave. Always makes me giggle. As a dps you cant do much but healers know they have more leverage.
I've been stealing all the good tanks it seems. Everytime I queue for expert I get a tank who seems hellbent on setting a work record for fastest clear. At worst I had a tank who wouldn't pull until everyone rolled on loot.
Anyway, horror story time. I've been playing with DRK again. I haven't really touched it since 4.1. A few FC mates were running Omega and asked me if I wanted to join. I kept it geared-ish. I had the 360 Lighthouse gear and the 370 wep. After a couple of slip ups it all came back to me like riding a bicycle. I came out with new gloves and boots. Then I queued for Trials and got Ravana. No one was new. The other tank was a PLD and went in with Shield Oath and it was smooth until the second phase. One of the healers fell off. And during the attack where he pierces the OT, I position myself so noone is behind me and the alive healer runs behind me. And it was during the middle of the attack too. There were no SMN or RDM and we wipe. Round 2, no one dies to the pushback. But wait, "Oops, didn't know you could just walk off." At least it was a DPS. The piercing attack again. No one's behind me. And then half the party runs behind me. We wipe again. 20% Echo on Ravana Story Mode and no one was new. First DF run as a DRK in over a year and I'm immediately reminded why I heal roulettes, I can't trust the majority of them to do it.
Just a friendly reminder that we don't get verraise until level 64. Up until that point only healers and SMN can raise ;-;
Depending on what Ravana syncs to we might not even have Vercure, that's at 54. I think we have it there because I'm pretty sure I've more or less healed a Ravana as RDM but I could be thinking of ex.
it seems that i'm getting strange experience in Alliance runs latey.
had been having fun playing on my alt the other day when i decided to go on alliance roulette and got Labyrinth of the Ancients, it seem's to be very popular in the roulette for some reason. and i saw right away that it was going be strange run. the B team has 7 players that did not have the job stone's equip only the sam had the stone but ofc u cant play sam without the stone. And ofc they died in every boss fight´s we did finish the run and the tank in the b team said he was sorry and said that he just bought that account, for some reason it raised a little flag in my head when he said that but i did just ignore that and kept on playing
I know I said I won't be on forums for a while but this happened today and I wanna share it.
But before I start I wanna thank Zane,Khriella and Cele,if you guys read this you guys are awesome and thank you again for the party.....sorry again that the session ended the way it did as mentioned bellow
During a farm session for Suzaku EX,someone joined the PF we put up.We discussed the strategy,IC and CW....etc the usual Suzaku stuff.
He or she dies to the third simon says....he/she then accuses us for not knowing the fight when we did well for 4 farms in a row before that person joined.
Moral of the story:Be careful when throwing accusations on farm parties especially when dying to something the rest of the party doesn't
I can and will tolerate mistakes as long as people aren't tossing blames on people for their own mistakes or act high and mighty without respect to the rest of the raid.
In any case I got my weapon from Suzaku so I probably won't be farming for a while and will end up working on clearing some savage raids
Here's another story on why leveling dungeons from Heavensward and on should have a reasonable item level requirement.
I queued for a Mentor Roulette as my Ekkusu character as tank. An elapsed time of 56 minutes show up. I thought I'd be getting an EX primal, The Burn, Rabanastre, or something. I ended up in The Aery on the last boss.
When I loaded in, I noticed the Ninja having less HP than the other 2 party members (SCH and BRD). As I went up to the final boss circle, I examined the Ninja to confirm my suspicions on why the final boss took so long and/or why the party had trouble with the fight. The ninja had 5 Level ilevel 90 stuff (body, hands, belt, legs, and feet), with the i120 head piece from Dusk Vigil. I also saw the level 30 Brand New Ring. I think I saw the ilevel 18 Dawn Wristguards too. The real problem is the weapon. It was the item level 55 crafted ninja weapon (the one used for the ARR Ninja Base Relic weapon I might add.)
I saw enough, told the ninja player to get better gear, told the party to take care of the rest, and I left the dungeon immediately.
I had some absolute gems in the roulettes and doing my weekly Omega clears yesterday.
> Darkhold with a PLD in full CP accessories.
> Chewed out for suggesting a vote abandon in an O11 where both healers died to the first Starboard/Larboard combo five goddamn times in a row. Bear in mind there was no first time bonus.
> A Tam Tara RP party where they all wanted to play reverse roles - LNC tank, GLA DPS, ARC healer.
The last one was the strangest. Playing SCH, I was screamed at by an ARC with a major case of the Sylphies. Like saw my fairy as an affront to their playstyle.
Demanded I desummon Selene and let them heal, because ARC is a terrible DPS.
Normally I'd just keep dpsing and ignore her but she refused to do literally anything but heal. In the end I just left slightly flabbergasted - I wasn't enabling any of that.
Queued for leveling on my PLD because that armored lion isn't going to find itself. Got a WHM, SAM, and a BLM in Sirensong. I think ok, this is going to be a smooth, painless run. How wrong I was. SAM was alright and ran out of TP as much as I did, but the WHM wasn't using Holy, let me almost die a couple of times before bothering to Bene me - and no they weren't dpsing either, they just stood there, and the BLM was spamming Fire III.
Fire III. On a multi-add pull.
I stopped just so I can explain the basics of the BLM rotation and they still just went Fire III.
I took the penalty.
I have had a day off in which I could simply sit down and play FFXIV. Thankfully, I came up with nothing short of stories.
The first issue I had came in the form of a Normal Raid roulette in which I get Heart of the Creator. I hate this fight so dang much because of a.) Forward and back and b.) people still can't seem to get the fight down with Propeller Wind. But the biggest issue was that we kept wiping to the same mechanic over and over and over again. Finally, I put up a Vote Abandon (this is after the 5th wipe mind you). However, it kept getting denied. Someone in the party asked for people to, "please say yes." But the abandon kept getting denied and people kept dying. I bit the penalty and left.
The next was an Alliance roulette in which the same thing was happening (I think it was World of Darkness). This time with my FC mates. No mechanics being followed, and the same boss with the same wipes over and over. Vote Abandon goes up! Denied. I leave. My penalty was dropped by the time my FC mates left. In fact, it had been done for 15 minutes.
Duty Finder!
Please....for the love of all that is good, check your gear. You should not have lv43 gear in the Vault. Three times I healed through this situation. I finally noped out of one when I saw both DPS and the Tank wearing gear that was either lv43-lv50 gear.
I mean, that wasn't nearly as bad as a dungeon I just had in which the tank was new (jump potion) and the ninja decided to pull EVERYTHING, and then get mad at me when I don't heal them. Yes, I know that tanks should have some idea of their job when they reach the Aery, but as long as they listen to advice, I'm good. This tank really listened to advice. However, the tank asked us to wait. Other dps and I say sure, but ninja runs off, dies and finally complains. Sorry. Tank asked us to wait. Real life happens you know? :P
Speaking of gear, I got a story. Running an alt, I got Ala Mhigo for 70 Roulette. Noticed during the first boss that healer was almost out of mana. Sure enough, they were in mostly 65 gear, with a few higher-level pieces to barely edge them into the proper ilvl.
None of those pieces were from their lvl 70 Job Quest.
Okay. I can forgive nervous or struggling healers. I've never been the best healer myself. But there is NO EXCUSE not not do your final Job Quests. None whatsoever. But I decided to bite the bullet for the sake of the other guys. We cleared it, but I made my disgust known and left.
Saddest part is, they actually seemed pretty nice. But like I said, no excuse. I hope that if they see this post that they learn from this and take care to prepare themselves properly before running dungeons in the future.
I'm guessing you mean ACN (Arcanist) and not ARC (Archer)? I just spent five minutes trying to think how an ARC could heal a party when they can no longer cross-class Cure I lol.
That being said, it's always funny when people baby-rage in baby dungeons about stupid things.
Got the Burn in Expert Roulette last night with a DRG who had like an i290 chest piece, yet somehow it was one of the smoothest runs there I've ever seen despite DPS being a bit lower that it should have been. I seem to recall the DRG did win the Maiming chest piece during the run, so good on them though going in with gear that low in the first place was not great.
And while not a DF story rather than a PF story, I ran O9S a few days ago to get the weekly clear with a couple static members, our PLD and DRG. Normally we'd all do it together during raid times on the weekend, but we decided to get O9S out of the way on our own time so we can finish prog on O10S, hopefully clear it, and allow time to learn O11S during the actual raid times. So anyway, we spent a lot of time forming and reforming in PF due to various awful shenanigans beyond our control. Now, I was expecting things probably wouldn't go as smoothly as they would with our whole group, but even then this exceeded my expectations. We had a BLM and their healer friend who outright refused to allow our DRG the south Blaze position, despite being informed that it will likely cost him his positionals. Our main tank WAR we got after the previous decent DRK left adamantly refused to allow me a twenty second countdown at the start as I requested repeatedly, and instead only did half that, effectively destroying my SMN opener completely. We had the healers essentially arguing about DPSing. Oh, and also constant healer RP macros going off non-stop throughout every fight. Lost track of the number of wipes we saw, mostly due to pugs sabotaging everything despite allegedly having cleared the fight, and despite allegedly understanding their assigned positions. During the final pull when we FINALLY killed him, even the game itself apparently decided to screw with me. We made it to cyclone phase, which happened in the second half of the fight. Right before the pushback/debuff, I positioned myself near the corner of the square tile closest to the cyclone, ensuring I was facing it and stopping everything right before it goes off to avoid turning away, as I usually do. Next thing I know, in the blink of an eye I'm like a mile off the platform and falling to my death. Still no one is able to figure out out how this happened. Was dead for about half a minute, came back for a short amount of time, and died shortly after along with most of the group except for our lone PLD to the barrage of soft enrage mechanics and minimal healing at the stone debuff. It was a miracle our PLD was able to finish him off a split second before the enrage.
I know I'm far from the best player and all, I know I make dumb mistakes occasionally especially when I'm tired, and usually I'm quite patient with people, and yet I don't think I've ever been so angry going through PF. I held my tongue in the game chat, but I think I surprised my static-mates in Discord with how frustrated I was getting with these people actively refusing to work together as a team. It was honestly one of the most draining nights playing this game I've ever experienced. Really just goes to show, if you need to pug anything in savage, do it right after the reset and not on a Friday night. But then my friends couldn't help that and I wanted to help, so I did my best and got through it for them.
I can't believe I forgot this one!
During an Alphascape run for my weekly drops, I was doing O10 when the first thing I see is this in chat:
Full Party
PLD: "hello! :3'
PLD: "pass for bolt, pls"
Bwhahaahaha! No...
Me: "Sure! If you win it, it's all yours!"
PLD: "If you make me run this 36 times..."
BRD: "I've done this 42 times"
PLD: "I will kill you..."
PLD: "idfc"
O_____________________o
Countdown!
So the battle commences! PLD is main tanking and WAR is off tanking. The WAR said a few things here and there, but I don't really remember all that much. I do know that we inevitably wipe to Akh Morn (I know I butchered that spelling).
Me: "Oh look PLD, 37 times!" (Okay this was a jerk move, but I couldn't resist)
WAR: "lol"
The 3rd time we finally defeated Midgardsormr. Everyone rolls for their loot and this commences:
PLD: "War why did you ot"
WAR: "What?"
PLD: "war is mt and pld is ot"
The PLD started the battle with Shield Oath, so I also would have assumed he wanted MT.
WAR: "This isn't Savage."
PLD: "its common sense learn your class"
And guess who wins the bolt? Guess the PLD doesn't need to run it 39 times eh?
Just got out of a party on roulette that really made me wonder, but I did at least appreciate the good nature of the group I got.
I get in, and it rolled Darkhold. Party comp was a DRK, NIN, SAM, and me on SCH. I buff up after the barrier goes down, and while the drk had to bring up their hotbar, I got a chance to look at the party's hp, and realize the nin's max hp is unusually low. I figured they were probably missing a few pieces of gear at the level, which I understand, as I've lost a piece or two while reorganizing my own gear inv.
The drk gets their hotbar back up, and we move on. The drk does the usual mass pull up to the second light, at which point there's quite a few mobs on the tank. Some of the mobs do aoe, and that's when I realize the nin lost a ton of hp from one hit. I figure their gear must be broken and probably forgot to repair it, so I keep the group healed, and bam the nin takes another hit and down to 10% hp. I also realize their dps is really, really low compared to the sam. I'm too busy healing the group to actually check their gear, though once we finally get through to the second boss do I get the moment to actually check the nin's gear.
Head, body, leg, and feet gear only. No accessories, and lvl 30 daggers. I then mouse over the gear and had to do a double-take. It was just lvl 1 glamour items. I don't remember my eyes going that wide in a while.
The entire run I was either hanging at 600 mp or less from spamming heals/shields or trying to make up for the dps loss, or waiting for Lucid to come off cooldown so I could have mp back again to repeat said cycle.
We get to the final boss, and the amount of times that nin died to aoes made me cringe, as the nin spent a good chunk of the fight on the floor or with res sickness. After the final boss dies, the drk tells me that they were the one at fault for bringing the other two here, and the nin had just gotten out of a PoTD run. One would think about changing their gear back to normal or actually wearing actual gear in PoTD out of force of habit if they were going to do that, but...
I'm not sure what to think now.
I had a Trials roulette with a player like that NIN last night. The RDM was a newbie to the fight (and kept running away with the stack marker to boot) and when I got curious as to why they were dying so flippin' fast to normal AoE they happened to pipe up that they forgot to equip real gear and had a mixture of some random ilvls + straight up level 1 glamour gear equipped. Didn't even have the courage to brave out the fight with Echo or swap gear at the next reset or even leave so we could get a decent person in there- they just went offline in the middle of the fight during the second attempt.
OT didn't know to intercept orbs either and my AST co-healer died left and right to mechanics... and stayed in Diurnal the whole time even though I went as WHM and the Noct shields would have been useful. It was a very messy run but we managed to pull through in the end... really makes me wish SE would put in a sanity check for ilvl though. For something like Susano'o NM I'd be fine with people in Shire gear with a few lower pieces mixed in even. Just please stop letting people queue with no gear or gear with no stats for dungeons past lvl 50.
Joined my friends's pf to help them with an aim to clear for o10s; given that we have some party members who are overgeared, we shouldn't be seeing enrage or at least get an enrage clear even with deaths..... Turns out the WAR was doing less dps than the AST and the SAM.... doing less dps than the WAR...
Three hours. Three hours fighting Chaos and nothing to show for it. I just wanted one bolt. What I got was a headache.
And this one run almost gave me an aneurysm.
I had a Noct AST. I'm a SCH. I got a 22k critlo. It was immediatly overwritten with a 8k moon.
I had NIN and BRD stack their stack markers together.
And this other BRD could not stand still. Everytime he got an orange marker, he ran over to show it to me like an excited puppy. And then for some reason, after Bowels of Agony the same Ninja from above wanted to show me his too. And I died. Both in the game and on the inside.
Like I said, three hours in there. Rolling under 50 everytime. And the one time I get a decent roll:

Gosh... After reading that I just remembered that popular video with german boy screaming at the computer. It would be so fitting.
My friend came back to FF14 and hes leveling his tank jobs (hes maining tanks as I am maining healers since we know each other...11 years). I wanted to play SAM for that evening and I had some convincing to be done because he so used to me as his personal healer that he doesnt trust other healers much...until proven otherwise.
I convinced him to start leveling rulette with him as a DRK and me as a SAM....aaaand it was funny run for me...not so much for my friend :)
We had Aurum Vale and SCH as a "healer". My friend almost died on first trash pull and my warning bell ringed like hell because no Adlo and Sacred Soil...on himself. And that was happening whole run. Adlo was very rare and he NEVER casted SS on tank. I asked him why his casting Sacred Soil on himself and not on the tank and you wouldnt believe it... no answer and no change either. During second boss and his Eye of the beholder mechanic (I call it I SEEEE YOUUU mechanic heh) when SCH was standing still I was already laughing.
My friend told me after the run that he needs few minutes to calm down....and im stuck at healing now :D
Greetings from an expert run with a White Mage, who'd
-cast at most one Holy per pull, when 0-2 mobs were alive,
-use Aero 3 but never Aero 2 on bosses,
-spam Cure on a max HP Warrior during their Inner Release Steel Cyclone time,
-and just stand around doing nothing for half the run.
Good times.
I’ve had DPS do this to me before. Makes me wonder if they’re trying to do some weird “HEAL MEEEEEE” sign language or mating dance or something. Calm down, my dude. I’ll heal you when you actually take damage.
And BRDs that run around like headless chickens drive me up the wall. I almost want to just let them die on purpose sometimes.
Sometimes we dont have a choice. I love when I am trying to position myself for AOE heals and shields to cover whole raid and that one dot on minimap on the edge of other side is our winner...Narnia BRD.
I had one BRD at Cutters Cry who was playing hide and seek with me on Chimera. I was unable to heal him because he was usually behind something and i had to constantly reposition myself to be able reach everybody with single heals and do Chimera mechanics. I even thought that hes trolling me.
I haven't done Alphascape normals alone for a while so while I've seen some poor showings they're usually mitigated by the other people I'm playing with.
I did o12n last night on RDM because I didn't want to forget it for the week. In I go.
These healers just loved to die. I mean so did the other dps but the healers... wow. All I can say is wow. I was raising my butt off and my co-rdm was too when she was alive. Suppression sees only myself and the tanks alive and I get a healer up to LB3. She does....
... aaaaand you guessed it they both die again, this time to overlapping aoe. Despite my Vercuring/Apoc/Virus/Erase it isn't salvageable. Wipe, one healer complains about the other, disband.
Wouldn't you know I see the same healers again in my next try? What are the odds? The crowning jewel of this run is that as the stack marker shows up once with only myself, the tanks and a SAM alive the SAM has the good sense to not bring it to us as it surely would have killed me. A Cover still went out, thank you PLD-frend.
We make it by the skin of our teeth. Somehow both enemies die near the same time which is great because I don't have Ver-Medica and god knows the healers would have been dead
Naturally one of them rolled a 99 on the shaft. I'm sure glad I only wasn't drops from there for glam or I might actually be annoyed.
I honest to gods don't know what they did with the rest of their gear, as they came in at lvl 44. As for changing gear in dungeons, I'm fairly certain you can, but it'll be put under level sync if it applies. PoTD seems to toss that logic out the window with its aetherpool system, and I think the system tends to make people forget that.
You'd think some sense of basic competence would be ingrained into players when a lvl 5 or so main quest tells you to upgrade your gear, and they tell you to keep it updated 'lest you weigh down your comrades'. I still get such surprises every day in duty finder.
Speaking of, I did one last roulette last night before bed, and had a Dusk Vigil party. Ended up getting DRK, SMN, DRG, and me on SCH again. DRK and SMN were thankfully competent, but the DRG was an fairly obvious case of 'first time running this game and bought the level skip', as the smn who was a drg main was trying to give him better rotation and skill usage advice. The drg also seemed to like using Arm's Length, when only in a handful of situations is it a bit helpful. Dusk Vigil really isn't one of those places to be using said class skill.
The drg also was quite squishy, got caught flat-footed in aoes or always ran ahead of the tank, and on the final boss he always got caught in Gaol despite me telling the party to get behind a rock if you see the boss casting it. Overall he wasn't contributing much at all to the fight.
I think the smn got tired of having the drg being cringe-worthy and just said for me to leave him be when the drg was dead on the floor. We three-manned the boss for the remaining 45%.
The only scenario I could picture is if they were a tank-only player (so not carrying any DPS equipment) who'd just picked up their first ever DPS class and leveled it straight to Lv44 in PotD....
More likely they just didn't realise you can change gear within the dungeon. But also still probably leveled all the way to Lv44 in PotD.
A pity you didn't notice earlier and could at least let them pick up whatever items drop during the dungeon.
(Out of interest, since I have an overleveled Lv33 rogue alt... with Lv30 daggers and the Thavnairian glamour set equipped (ilevel 5), he has 751 HP / 21 DEF / 45 MDEF. With scrappy mostly-lv15 armour equipped (ilevel 19), he has 951 HP / 114 DEF / 114 MDEF. Five times as much DEF! Any amount of armour is better than nothing.)
To the Alphascape v.4 (Normal) group that I had the pleasure of running with:
Thank you! You all were great! Normally when I do that raid there are a few wipes and disbands are put into question, but ther were no wipes on that run!
I know there a lot of bad stories on this thread, but I wanted to say something good.
-Gan
Exciting news. I had a Alpha4 run that wiped 3 times in M/F phase due to cotank dying to tank buster after meteor. (He had 70k+ health so dedinately higher geared than myself)
Not sure if it was by some stroke of luck or not but holy crud was it exciting when the Omega card finally dropped!
In other news, I have also got the mist dragon card to drop. Woo
