Lets all cry about necroing Open discussions awaiting answers from the man. I suppose the better idea would be to create a whole new thread just to be locked by a mod, all while pointing to right back to this thread.
Well, its not necroing anyways. This topic is far from dead.
the thread was dead.
some SSM supporter mule bumped it after over three weeks.
so to prevent it from being bumped every few weeks i only see one solution:
lock the thread.
You would love that.
Let me summarize the last 40 pages of this thread:
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.
BLAH BLAH BLAH.
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.
BLAH.
Ooops old thread? People bumped it. sorry haha

"Um, that'll do, thanks..."
Besides, no one actually cares that this is a necro thread. Go play somewhere else.
http://static.quickmeme.com/media/social/qm.gif yep its time to end it
This will be a hard decision for SE to make, because regardless of what route they chose, there will be negative feedback from some people.
I still think they should have just added SSM without saying a word. Did they make a big fuss with same sex publicly kissing couples in the valentines event? No. Did people kick up a fuss? No. SSM is kind of taken for granted in games these days, but then someone makes a fuss and it gets over thought and blown way out of proportion.
So what if two avatars happen to be the same gender? Maybe they're played by people of different genders.
So what if characters are of different genders? They could be played by people of the same gender.
It really doesn't matter. Just let people do what they want if it isn't hurting anyone.
^I have always planned on having concubines. This is a good idea.
i'm glad that other people think like me, because the question is legitimate.
did you know that according to the Ethnographic Atlas Codebook, of 1,231 societies noted, 186 were monogamous. 453 had occasional polygyny, 588 had more frequent polygyny, and 4 had polyandry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy
I'm one million percent against polyandry.
I personally believe that it is not religion or law that makes marriage as special as it is to so many people, but rather the exclusivity of it. Saying that one person is special enough to tie yourself to, more special than all others.
However, that is just my personal view of what I have seen while living in a country and culture that only appreciates monogamy in marriage.
There have been many cultures in which polygamy has worked out quite well for them and maintained its special nature.
If there are enough people playing this game that feel polygamy is the norm, or at least generally acceptable, then I would not even think of standing in their way as it would not hurt me or anyone else for them to have this option.
As such, if the vast majority of players are fine with either simply accepting or actively fighting for same sex marriage as an option, I think that that is fine too.
Heck, we could have both SSM and polygamy and I wouldn't really care. If I chose to get married in game (unlikely at best but, hey, maybe) I could marry all of my characters to all of the characters of my partner, regardless of our character's genders, all in one big polygamist wedding. Sounds like fun. *Shrug*
Who really cares? A handful of people who did not attempt to burn down SE for all the same sex Valentines Day kissing that was going on a bit under a year ago? Really? That's who we're going to base this decision around, when they're vastly outnumbered by the players who want and support this option? Let them have their restrictions all they want. They don't have to marry someone until they have definitive legal proof that both avatars and both players are of opposing genders.
But they didn't kick up a fuss against same sex couples for Valentines Day. People were celebrating same sex coupling in that event as it promised great things to come for the future of coupling in the game. Both in this thread and in the game, we've seen what people want.
There will be no way to satisfy everyone but the vast majority of people can be satisfied by simply allowing same sex marriage, and even more will be satisfied if not so much of a fuss is kicked up about it by SE themselves.
All SE had to do was say "we're allowing marriage in the game and have given you guys this great church to do it in. Have fun!" Instead they had to court controversy by making this a debate. It's really quite silly. Just let players make up their own mind of how they want to deal with marriage in the game. Those that wish to pursue it will do so with whoever they want, regardless of an avatar's gender. If someone is against same sex marriage, they'll simply marry that player's mule if their main character is the wrong gender. It's as simple as changing clothes with all of these free character slots we're getting. Those who want to marry their character to an avatar of the same gender can do exactly the same thing, marry a mule if the main doesn't match. Those that really don't give a damn (honestly, probably the vast majority of the player base if divorce is equally an option) can just marry mains or mules or whatever they want. No different from helping your partner choose a shirt you both like.
Avatars are just a set of graphics and no introduction of marriage is going to make those graphics any more significant than they are: pretty pictures to represent the people behind the screens that we care about. Those pictures can be of anything (animals, plants, a pencil) and it really wouldn't have any impact on anything.
And that is entirely not what this thread is about. If you'd like to make a thread about polygamy please feel free to do so, however this thread is solely about same sex marriage. The title says feedback but the entire OP and poll associated with it deal specifically with same sex marriage.
Warms my heart to see that there are actually quite a few people in support of this.
I just hope SE doesn't handle it the same way BioWare is with SWTOR.
Pretty much what I've been saying as well, however they already made a big deal of it. By stating a restriction they've made it into an issue for themselves. They could still get away with it by just "forgetting" to put the gender restriction in, that'd be fine and still create the desired result.
Didn't play it for long, how did they handle it?
My opinon of Polygamy is that, if someone wants to marry more than one person, benifits that come with marriage should not increase, and of course all parties have to know about the multiple marriage. -Oh and you cant claim Wife/husband #2 and beyond as dependants either.
That would make it only good for saying you have X amount of wives/husbands.
Then again you could also just marry one person, and pretend to be married to the others and go with that.
SGR (Same Gender Relationship/Romance) in SWTOR is only going to be available if you buy their expansion and it's going to be quarantined to a single planet.
No offense, but it's not on you to decide that.
This is the thread that will be most likely the one considered when it comes to marriage feedback and the thread that was about same sex marriage only was deleted.
the fact that in FFXI it was only possible to marry one character was a problem for me, because i had 3 chars on one account with 2+ jobs on 75, which could not be married to the same person.
polygamist marriage would solve that problem as well.
when a mod reads this and thinks it doesn't belong into a marriage feedback thread, it can be deleted np.
They didn't use the word quarantined, but that's basically what it is. Same-sex relationship is only available in one area of the game, and is invalid elsewhere, and you have to pay for it.
This is all following their damage control of deleting any forum posts about same-sex relationships, whether positive or negative, and then having press release about how "gay and lesbian does not exist in our world".

OMG utter FAIL.
But that's different than here, though. In SWTOR this is in dialog with NPCs, and either they or you will be making obvious flirts or passes.
To quote the OP:
It's a marriage feedback thread, specifically focused on same sex/gender marriage. I didn't decide it, the very first sentence of the thread, and the poll specifically asking only about same sex marriage, did.
At any rate the proposed system already works with two people, all most want is to remove the gender restriction. That is far less work than having to re-create the system to work with marrying multiple people as that creates a whole new set of issues to deal with just as far as the game is concerned.
An alternate fix to your problem would be simply to have marriage be account wide, perhaps as an option if enough wanted choice in the matter.
They just shouldnt call it marriage and instead "bonding" or something like that.
Also they should just implement it silently without makeing a fuzz and probably no one will notice anyways.
Bioware handled the situation in SWTOR horribly.
They ended up offending all the partys. But i guess blame the publisher not Bioware.
We should just leave that "marriage" term to those who feel its their tradition/whatever/sacred thingy and invent a new word for people who love each other and want to promise themselfes to their significant other for the rest of their life.
And to reiterate the rest of my post that you seem to have missed:

That is the most popular idea that has been thrown around a number of times here. It would solve the problem while creating no others. Sadly the reps have never acknowledged it as far as I've seen, hopefully they can eventually give us some definitive word.
