If this is a real issue for SE they should just remove attaching such benefits from FC houses. Either way if half this effort went into holding SE accountable instead targeting players maybe something would change.

As I said I blame both, people have the ability to judge what is right and wrong. Asking SE to uphold their ToS in regards to a certain player who is violating forum ToS, game ToS and admitting exploiting the system during 4.2. That is not "punishing players retroactively for rule breaking" they know what they are doing is wrong and yet they are doing it anyway, admitting to do different things, and continue to do so. The player base "not knowing better" is not an excuse for that situation. Yes SE is to blame for the bad system, but so are players when they go this far.

But no. What did they do? They decreased the price of housing, increasing demand further. Housing is so cheap that even those who don't care about it become willing to pay for it just because they can. SE. Please. Please, please, please. You don't have many gil sinks other than housing. Why do you do this? Inflation is rampant because gil is useless. And yet you decreased the price of your ONE large gil sink! This is unfathomable. I can't.

I'm sorry, but I had to get it off my chest.

TL;DR: The simplest and most effective solution to ease the housing situation is to increase the max price of a house, but keep the minimum price the same. This ensures that only those who have a true desire to own a house will buy them, while at the same time not increasing the price of housing once demand has been sated.

Amen. Houses are WAY too cheap. Even if a player doesn't craft, or hunt, or try at all to make any Gil, and blows most of it on glams, he can wing it through the MSQ and make enough for a small cottage. This isn't a good idea on SE's part. A cottage is supposed to take you a LONG time to save up for. I'd say 4-6months minimum. Make smalls 20-30m, mediums 60-100m and larges well over 300m. Then housing will be the proper gil sink that it was intended to be. If my gimp ass can craft and make 500m+ on a medium/large server, then Gil is too easy to come by.

Nah, you want to make housing a proper gil sink, add maintenance costs... say 2m a week for a small, 20m a week for a medium, 200m a week for a large. These must be paid within 24 hours of being due or the house is relinquished. Then you have housing as a meaty gil sink. Apartments would have a 200k a week maintenance cost.

So we should get a purge irl too then right, too many rich people owning 10 houses,

your logic is hilarious, next it will be cars, too many rich people have 10 cars, we need a purge of those too.

Houses aren't some scarce commodity in RL. We also don't all pay a monthly fee to access RL, where set services/items are to be provided. Logic is indeed hilarious.

More like owning an entire neighborhood and refusing to sell, rent, or lease, making the entire neighborhood an effective ghost town.

Here's the situation we find ourselves in:

Introduction of housing:
- No real rules
- Small incentive to own multiple plots
- People complain

Introduction of Shirogane:
- SE responds with rules
- List rules as temporary
- Large incentive to own multiple plots
- Supposedly reverts these rules quietly during a patch with no announcement made.

Then you have two groups of people:
1. People following rules SE made.
2. People who would otherwise be breaking these rules, but may not be due to a silent revision of the rules.

In reality you have people who broke the aforementioned "temporary" rules, during the time in which they were supposedly in effect as all can agree upon, but are in the clear because no one noticed until the rules were reverted, at which point those who insisted upon following those rules were none the wiser that it had been changed.

There are a few terms to describe this sort of scenario:

Favoritism and/or Neglect

Some would argue that fault doesn't lie within rule breakers, with those in charge of enforcing the rules fail to act. However, where the fault lies isn't particularly relevant. There's only one party in this relationship that can change anything, and that's SE.

Laying this problem at the feet of SE is not a remission of guilt. Immoral choices have been made to negatively impact the community, especially so against new or returning players who have never had the opportunity to partake. But the solution isn't to ask for people who make immoral decisions to change their minds.

This isn't about anyone in particular. This isn't aimed to punish players who exploit the system. This is aimed to clarify the problem so that those who have the tools at their disposal can appropriately tackle the issue at hand.

Whether you come to the defense of a particular player, including yourself, or you find some other explanation for how the behavior of individuals is acceptable, is quite beside the point. A fair and welcoming player environment is one in which equal opportunity is the basis for all points of design and function.

No one is upset that a player has 8 retainers on 8 characters. Each and every player has the opportunity to do that if they feel they want to. The problem doesn't lie in advantages that players have, but in advantages that players are denied.

True. However, what is SE doing about it? At this point, they must know about this issue, and about the players who bypass the new housing rules...yet they just sit back and do NOTHING. By doing nothing, they allow the players to continue to doing this. Not sure they care at this point anymore, if at all.

That suggests to me they don't have a problem with any of this. The only people with problems with it are some players and there is this assumption that SE don't want us to do things the way some players are.

We've seen in the past when SE don't want us doing something, they hotfix it pretty fast, even "harmless" things like friending your own alts were patched very quickly (twice now).

SE have laid down a framework and as long as people abide by the rules of that framework, anything else is fine. If they don't like you doing something, they'll step in and make a change. But after all this time they haven't, the only logical explanation is they're fine with how things are.
