You will find it by going to:
Character Configuration->Control Settings->General->Cutscene Skipping
Mighty is right, a tank will hold the sword and all you have to do as a dps is hit it. It will fall 2 times, after the second time move out of the middle.
If you'd like a good BRD guide I enjoyed this one when I was learning it. It's lengthy but might clear some things up for you if people are complaining. It's based around level 70 play but I'm sure you can adapt it to your level.
Good luck!

Got Ala Mhigo in 70 roulette today, and had an interesting BLM. He/she had no real rotation at all, and was just pushing random buttons. No ley lines, nothing. The first tank called the BLM out as we walked up to the first boss area and then left. We got another tank within a couple minutes and managed to clear, but stuff was dying super slow even with me going ham on DPS and almost letting the tank die a couple times. We nearly wiped to the add phase on the final boss because of the other DPS losing connection combined with the BLM being terrible. On top of that, he/she died in that part of the fight, and got a damage down after being raised. RIP all the DPS. That was honestly probably worse than an ice mage.
On the topic above, I wish I would get tanks that do the sword mechanic. 9 times out of 10 I end up doing the orbs as WHM because tanks either don't know (after being told), or just go ham on the sword and ignore them.
Queue'd up for Mentor Roulette, and got one for a run 28 minutes in-progress of Castrum Abania. I said my standard 'hello' and ran to rejoin the group. They were at the 2nd boss and I set up Protect, got cards ready, and shielded the tank. Through the fight, the MCH was doing good with their rotations, but the BLM was not even using Enocian or Ley Lines and just using Fire to attack. They did not dodge any of the AoE's and did not get in any of the towers to mitigate damage. I did my best to keep the group healed and we dropped the boss. We proceed to killing mobs and get to the final boss of the dungeon. HO, BOY! The BLM did not use any standard rotations and stood in all the attacks and died. I revived them only for them to die again 2 minutes later. After that point, I refused to Raise them again. I buffed up the MCH with cards when I could and healed/shield the tank so they wouldn't die. I used Lucid Dreaming to try to keep my mp up, but kept running out since the boss was buffed to max. I luckily kept up with healing enough that the MCH used the limit break, but was in an AoE so I shielded them so they wouldn't die. Crit shield and 0 damage, and they killed the boss. The minion dropped and I rolled high to get it. After the boss died, the BLM had this to say, "so what is it about blm's none of you healers seem to like enough to heal them". So I say to them, "You weren't dodging. No point in healing you if you refused to dodge." Of course, they make an unoriginal lalafell punt joke right before they leave.
I honestly never thought I would get anyone as bad as that BLM.
Gosh, another adventure with another tank. So, last time we had the full diamond tank that spammed 1,2,3 aggro skills.
This time we had a Dark Knight in standard 340 gear, in fractal continuum hard. So far so good he's pulling groups and holding them well enough. I have to pop diversion here and there, but it's not too bad. And then we get to the bosses...
(I'd like to note before going any further that I was playing monk, and on his search comment he claimed to main monk - it's relevant)
He kept rotating the bosses around and around, making it very annoying for me to keep up with the positionals - and yet somehow on both the first and last boss I managed to pull hate. I had to used fists of stone, I even used diversion but it all seemed to be doing nothing and in both of these situations I ended up dying due to overwhelming damage. Looking back now, I don't know how I could be getting aggro. Was he not attacking? Was he shirking me?
Either way, in the end of the run I told him he should try to keep an eye out on his enmity, and to try and be thoughtful of the dps and make their jobs a bit easier. His response? "I'm a better monk than you are" - leaves dungeon.
Wowza.
/soothe
MNKs may be able to hit hard enough to rip hate off of Tanks if they're really trying, but to still have aggro even while using Diversion and Fist of Earth all while the Tank is rotating the boss? Part of me wants to say that the Tank you had was trolling you on purpose.
And I'm willing to believe that too, because my own DPS and Healer jobs have had the rather rare, but all too annoying trollish Tank players as well. (Back before I basically just started pleading my FC friend to always be my co-tank/co-healer buddy in any run I decide to run as a Tank or Healer)
Its 2 mechanics. First, a tank catches the sword to stop it from destroying the battlefield(mechanic 1). While they hold the sword up, the DPS try to break it. Meanwhile(mechanic 2) there are orbs that float around the arena that hurt and can interupt(maybe damage down?) the DPS trying to break the sword. Either the other tank or a healer should be trying to pick these off so that no one dies. He swings the sword again, you do this all again. Then he gives up on breaking the battlefield and instead just uses his ultimate(dont stand in the middle). Afterwards he pops back up, and you go into the 2nd phase. Mostly the same as the first, but a little faster on everything and maybe one or two extra attacks he didnt use in the beginning. It can be hectic towards the end, but its very doable. Good luck!
While i am pro-lala punting it hurts me whenever i see/hear about someone playing my class so poorly. The basics of our rotation is SO easy to learn. And the basics alone are enough to put you over most of the lower DPS classes. And we get such a bad reputation as it is because of the design elements of the class, so why would people go out of there way not to do easy mechanics and end up making us look even worse? Pitiful. So on behalf of myself, Shantoto, and all the conscientious BLMs out there: Im sorry you had to put up with that. You too Driskus.
Yes, they do. They are also invaluable support tools to your party, and must have skills for every BRD/MCH. your role actions should be Refresh, Tactician, Palisade, Second Wind, and Invigorate - the first three are all support tools core to your role as a support-requests DPS, Second Wind is a self-heal that you can't really go wrong with if you accidentally eat and AOE, and Invigorate is needed for AOE in dungeons (alternate with Tactician to keep your TP levels high enough to AOE each pack of mobs).
Come 4.4 you'll be able to take more than 5 role skills, but those are generally the 5 I advocate for.
Just died 5 times in my weekly run of Sigma V4 because my connection decided to be garbage. Never felt this sting of embarrassment before and I feel like sleeping under a rock for being probably the most garbage SAM to date.
Ok, set up those 5 role skills and did some re-thinking of how my Bard "helper actions" are organized. In the past, I'd cast Foe Requiem a lot but, looking at it again, I'm not sure it's as helpful as I thought it was. If I understand it right, it's only active for a short duration and I'm unable to attack or dodge during. My other "go to" was Battle Voice, that one still seems like a good one to use.
BTW - thanks to everyone for letting me "pick your brains" as it were. This has all been very helpful :)
For now you can basically use Battle Voice on cooldown as long as you'll be in battle for it's duration and cast Foes whenever your MP is full. Foes has a short cast time but then it lasts for however long your MP lasts, around 20 seconds or so I think. Using Foes while Refresh is active will extend the duration of Foes since Refresh will be restoring your MP as Foes is spending it.
It might help you to hover over each action and fully read the description that it gives you, the game does a good job of explaining the basics.
Me and two other friends were pretty bored last evening and we didn't know what to do. So because one of us still needed his weekly loot from the 24-man raid, we decided to give it a shot. It was 1 AM and none of us knew what to play (the horror of having everything at level 70 ; - ; ) Anyroad, I wanted to try something different without troubling people with it and giving myself a challenge, so did one of my friends. We decided to play Conjurer instead of White Mage in the lighthouse instead. We expected some backlash though so we were prepared.
We queued up, it popped instantly. When we spawned we thought we'd get called out for it, but no one said anything yet. First boss, everything went nice and smooth. We used our simple Conjurer kits to the fullest, including the 10 role abilities. No one said anything until our Samurai died because of being into the stream of waves. He claimed he died because of "lack of healing", however you can't always react fast enough to save people form that mechanic even if you have an instant heal ability ready. So me and my friend shrugged it off and let it slide. The rest of the first boss was a breeze. Minimal deaths and definitely not a lack of healing.
On our way to the adds the Samurai complained that we didn't get kicked. Again, we ignored him because we thought it was for the better. He kept claiming that there wasn't enough healing even though we got through the exploding adds without any deaths, which was somewhat challenging without abilities.
Moving on to the 2nd boss, the Samurai in question complained to the alliance that we were trolling and griefing, even though we were doing the role we signed up for - Healing. During the second boss he kept complaing about the same thing over and over again, dying to one-shot mechanics (the dashes, not dodging the bombs or AoEs) and called it a "lack of healing" again.
Going to the 2nd corridor of adds he, as they usually do, kept complaining. Even though he pulled a card that rubbed me wrong: He said he cleared UWU, that he knew better than us and that we were casuals. He also was a better player because he cleared it and that we should listen to him. Him saying that got me annoyed, as someone who cleared UWU he should easily see that there wasn't a lack of healing. When people did drop, they dropped from 100 to 0. And last time I checked it's impossible to heal through one-shot mechanics.
Moving on to the 3rd boss, my friend and I had a blast besides the complaining from that one guy. The rest of our party seemed to be rather fine with it, or at least stayed silent. The Samurai kept complaining and pulling his UWU card throughout the fight. Kept dying to dodgeable AoEs. After he dropped a second time in that fight, he blamed lag. He also said he couldn't accept a raise because of lag, this again rubbed me the wrong way. Anyroad, we decided to not raise him for the time being because he said he couldn't accept it for wahtever reason. That's sort of fine, I guess. After a short moment he complained in the Alliance chat that he didn't get a raise from his healers (not including the Red Mage, obviously) even though he told us he couldn't accept it due to lag. So I sighed and cast raise on him. He had to buff on him for 10 seconds, before it vanished and he did another cryout in the Alliance chat. After the fight I called him out on it and he said it was lag. Someone backed him up by saying that due to lag a raise wouldn't hit sometimes. Which is total BS imo because you need to hold down Decline at least 3 seconds in order for it to be declined.
Anyroad, no healing struggles during that fight either.
Moving on to the last boss. The usual complaining happened and we managed to get through it quite easily. No one died because of lack of healing, more of a lack of machanics.
All in all me and my friend got what we wanted: A small challenge. I also don't believe that we were troubling people, trolling or griefing. I mean, if we really were doing that, why did we try our best to heal through everything, raise people and help the other Alliances out. Sure, we may have been a bit weaker in comparison to the White Mage next door, we didn't have all the fancy abilities. But it didn't matter as we easily made it through. So, I partly feel that the assault that we received wasn't justified, of course that's my view and we just wanted to try something different. It was really refreshing in the end and we actually felt some accomplishment for clearing it as Conjurers.
Anyway, that's my side of the story.
I hopped on leveling roulette on my healer alt, behold it's SASTASHA. Groans and grunts followed but oh well.
It's okay, it will be a snooze fest. Then I notice the thaumaturge is doing nothing. I pay little mind to them, maybe they lag. It was a returning player. The other DPS calls on them asking why they don't cast sells. Their answer "My damage is little so it doesn't make difference." Tank, dps and I all kind of stop for a moment to process it, we note it's still something, dungeons are group effort, we're all low level here. They proceed to say they just want a quick run for the exp and continue to only follow along.
I encountered a DPS, a returning player, who asked for a carry in Sastasha. SASTASHA.
I don't think DF will ever sink this low ever again for me.
Vote kick and we got a bard to finish the dungeon with. This is probably the 2nd time I've ever used a vote kick for my 3 years of gameplay.
While that samurai was clearly not in the right to complain about a lack of healing when it was his lack of dodging/doing mechanics that killed him, I cant fully agree with you on the assumption that you werent troubling people.
You were missing all spells from the past 3 years, aswell as some rather important ones from ARR - but I guess you know that... Its not only "a bit weaker"
If you want to challenge yourself by running content without job-stones, by all means, do that! ...but keep it within a group of people who know and agree to that. (You can also pick content thats more challenging, healing-wise, than Ridorona. My fairy or my RDM can and have healed that)
Those sort of challenges can be fun, but you should make sure that everyone is onboard with it!
A guy who cleared UWU dying to easy mechanics?
I don't believe that for one moment.
He must be one of those clear buyers.
The ones who pay other people to take control of their accounts and clear hard content for them so they can use that clear to E-peen wave about how much better than everyone else they are, even if they actually suck.
I have encountered a few people like that myself, who suck so bad they can't manage even the most simple mechanic, then go on about how great and infallible they are because they cleared Ultimate, while lying dead on the floor due to a mechanic that everyone else dodged easily.
Then they go on about how everyone else is at fault, it has to be because their Ultimate clear means they can do no wrong so it absolutely cannot be their fault they died.
Then they flame everyone for being bad while lying there face-down in the dirt.
Alternately he's a troll who was killing himself on purpose just so he could have an excuse to yell at people.
Eh, it isn't too shocking to me. It seems like some people who clear more difficult content like Ultimate or even final raid tiers seem to think that they don't need to try at all in lower end things.
The example that sticks out in my head is a SCH who joined my weekly clear party for o6s. He was all orange through Godka but was flubbing things left and right in what is a much easier fight. He also basically didn't heal at all. We wound up kicking him because even though he apparently could play well he didn't think o6s was worth his full effort.
I wouldn't be surprised if that SAM did down UwU but at the end of the day your achievments don't mean anything if you're playing like trash at that moment.
Just a quick little shout out to the tank I got in Doma last night. Thanks for making that a fantastic run and putting up with my spotty connection! Was even better thanks to you even checking ahead of time what kind of pulls would be good instead of just trying wall to wall and dying.
I meant to post this a week or so ago. Nevertheless, allow me to regale you with the tall of a Tsukiyomi party that ultimately vote abandoned. Yes, it was that bad.
Starting off, nobody seemed to have even the slightest idea what they were doing save one or two. We have three party immediately die during to fans in phase one, but manage to pull through. One of the two MNKs though... oh boy. In four pulls, I'm all but certain he died to every single mechanic each time. What really stood out though was the AST who I swear had to be one of those "netflix" meme healers because she literally did nothing. Her damage was abysmal and she healed less than a quarter as much as the WHM, who, herself proved very... scatterbrained. Maybe she was panicking due to having to heal the whole fight basically on her own, but suffice it to say things didn't go very well. We never made it passed 40%, if even that.
The real icing on the cake is when the AST tried to blame lag. Sweetheart, no. You'd have to running on 5 FPS to play that poorly. You weren't even overhealing, you just straight up weren't pressing buttons.
I dont see how those are mutualy exclusive - Moro already mentioned a very good reason with people starting to think that "easy" content is beneath them and that they dont have to care anymore, but while I personally also always wonder "How did that guy clear Savage/UwU" when some really sucks, I do realise that people can have bad days (both personal and connection-wise) or have cleared said content on a different class they're on right now.
I've cleared O8S on my paladin and if you'd see me playing ninja you probably wouldnt believe that I managed to log in by myself...
I'm not thinking to highly of people who think they can berate someone by waving their achievments in their face and I'd like to believe that nice and decent people dont feel the need to do that in the first place.
But at the same time I realise that there are several more or less legit reasons for someone not playing on UwU-level in Ridorona - may it be that they dont care, have a bad day, a bad connection or are on a class they're not familiar with.
...please note though that I'm not trying to excuse that samurais behaviour, I'm just trying to show that having cleared a certain content doesnt mean you're not allowed to make mistakes anymore.
I do agree with Moro on the point of "if you cant show that you've got skill right now, it doesnt matter if you've shown that before" though.
Foe's has an active time of ~21 seconds (7 ticks) without Refresh being paired with it, and ~30 seconds (10 ticks) with Refresh. You should try to use it as often as possible whenever your MP is full (it takes roughly 2 minutes for your MP to refill again while in combat). 3% may not seem like a lot, but Foe's is another core utility for BRD that makes them invaluable to any party. It costs a GCD to cast, but the party gain more than outweighs your one Heavy Shot. You only cast during that initial GCD; while Foe's is active, you can still move freely. You aren't casting for its entire duration, just for 2.5 seconds.
Battle Voice should be used immediately off cooldown. It's extra direct hit rate for your party that costs you nothing. And BRD, at its core, is all about supporting and buffing the party.
My first vote abandon primal Bismarck hard mode happened. Tanks refused to tank the two snakes away from each other and we wipe, 2 DPS fall off, healer falls off, get Bismarck to 5% wipe due to healer dying, party vote abandons it passes. I have never mana shifted so much in my life! go RDM
Next gem in Stone Vigil: Kitty WAR tank uses no CDs, tanks mobs near healer for some reason, tanked the 2nd boss near the cannons, tanks the last boss facing the group nearly wiping us to due its breath attacks....healer and ranged had to actually run around the mob since tank refused to move, used tank LB both times when they hit one bar What in holy Cthulhu!...I at one point thought they were trolling with how bad they played. gah! I ran out of there as fast as my legs could take me.
Trying to level AST, had a terrible run in Shisui. Paladin using no CDs while trying to make huge pulls, samurai who doesn't AoE at all, and black mage who.....pretty much only cast Fire and Blizzard the entire run. She might've used Flare once or twice, but that was it. And kept using LB on single targets.
I'll freely admit I'm not great at AST, but we dragged on through somehow. I've never had a food buff run out in a dungeon before. Well, at least I got all the comms.....
Ok, just briefly got in the game and tried some things; boy was I doing it wrong.....
.
I cast Foe Requiem, my character briefly plays the harp. I thought *that* was the song duration. Outside of the "heat of battle", I could cast it and watch what was actually happening. It's like other's here have said. The MP slowly drains and I can do other things while that's going on except cast Foe Requiem again...because that makes it stop.
.
Suffice to say, I have more work to do yet before going back into a dungeon again....
Doing the story on one of my alts.
I just had a BRD in Lakshmi normal die to every time you're supposed to use the Vril.
I even noticed that they were ps4 and told them to hit R3, but they died EVERY SINGLE TIME.
And wiped us once by stacking aoes on people and not stacking for the one you're supposed to stack.
...This is why the skip potions are a horrible idea.
How do you get to level 67 and then run around like a chicken with it's head cut off with a big aoe on you.
On the flip side, I had a great run of Shisui earlier. DOUBLE DRG deeps. XD All the aoe! It was fun feeling insync with someone cause usually if I dps anymore, the other dps doesn't throw out goads, or help aoe. Was a nice change.
It’s not just R3 - all that does is put you in first-person view. You have to hold the L2/R2 triggers and then press R3.
(I think you need to hold both, but as I write this it occurs to me that it could be intended that one-or-the other might work. Would be less awkward. I’ll have to test it next time I’m in a duty that needs it.)
Alternately you can set Duty Action to a hotbar from the ‘general actions’ list - I did that for the 4.1 solo duty that needed it to be used repeatedly and quickly.
I'm on PS4, and I hold down R2 and push R3 to use the duty actions. Alternatively L2+R3 works I think, but using both triggers at once won't work iirc.
Went into an Ex Farm, Red Mage is hard casting verraise. I ask him why. He said, "I don't want to waste swift cast." So he then continues to hard cast it.
a red mage.
at 70.
no instant cast.
kill me.
If thats what works for you, then good keep it up. Everyone learns in their own way and you gotta be you. But you dont have to treat this as a reason to take a break from groups if you dont want to - just try to start integrating it into what you do like you would a new skill you just learned for leveling up. Some levels the new skill completely alters your rotation, other levels its just a new wrinkle to toss out when the time is right.
While not using instant cast definitely raises eyebrows, I've gotta say, I'd just be happy to see a bloody RDM casting verraise to begin with. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a run that has taken a turn for the worse, with raises needed, only to have the RDM keep doing their DPS without a second thought. Many of these could have been salvaged had a raise gone out.
Obviously DPS is their main goal, but c'mon, try and have a little party awareness (or maybe willingness?) to toss a raise if need be. The skill is in our toolkit for a reason.
Reminds me of my Lighthouse run last week (I was on my RDM). This was the first week I actually made it the entire time without dying once (took me long enough ><). I was so happy!
We had A LOT of deaths in the party, with a few from one of the healers as well. I'm thinking I tossed out at least 8 raises myself, although no comms. Was a tiny bit bummed, but still just happy I managed the run without dying.
My record is 17 Verraises in one Lighthouse run. At least half of that on the same person who kept standing in everything.
Not a single comm, of course.
In Eureka I will dualcast verraise.
RIP mp bar, it was good while you lasted. Burns through that sucker like no one's business.
On another note, I ended up in Lakshmi the other day with at least 3 PUG mates new to the fight. My first direction was to tell them to make sure their duty action button was in a place they could easily reach. Only wiped once while they learned what things looked like! :D
