Crashing and forcing you to restart, BSOD crashing, or just shutting down without warning?
So many people reporting problems yet this forum's topic is so broad it includes different symptoms to different problems that can result from just about anything.
Logically speaking, your PC should not straight up "shutdown" unless it is experiencing a Power Supply problem or Fail-Safe activation, so the game should have nothing to do with this unless it is causing your GPU, CPU, or chipset to overheat.
Freezing can be caused by games and usually involves pressing the reset button or power button to fix the issue, but it can also just as easily be caused by any software interacting with the game. Some programs that were popular in the past, but have not been updated for years, are known application killers (I hate you RealPlayer!).
The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is usually associated with memory problems, but can be almost anything: DLL errors, Driver errors, Faulty Hardware, Power Supply Issues, and pretty much anything that goes along with a straight up "shutdown" only in this case it is less likely to have been triggered by an automatic Fail-Safe.
My most recent experience with a BSOD was related to a faulty video card, and it went away after it was replaced. Like I said though... it could be just about anything.
In any case, SE has already replied in 3 threads (including this one) that the issue is known and under investigation. Somehow I doubt yelling about it and demanding a faster response is going to make a difference in how fast they find and rectify the problem.
crashing and forcing me to shutdown. One example would be I stayed away from mnk quest... Every time I tried entering that instance. Guess what happened? My game would freeze along with the pc... Happened about 4-5 times on the same instance. Even if I came back the next day and tried to do that instance.
i solved my issue..waiting for wildstar
good luck all
Ok. I thought I solved the problem by switching to the HDMI audio of the gtx 570. For 2-3 days I had no crashes. Tonight I got 3 crashes under the same circunstances. PC temperature was fine. This gotta be a audio driver problem, but I tried everything to fix it without success. Tried a lot of older audio drivers and the newer ones as well. Tried the old and new video drivers. This only happens with FFXIV. Other games get the vga to the same temperature and use, but without any problems. No error message, just freeze. Anyone got any news on this matter?
Oh look... I cam home after work today... turned the pc on... logged into the game... and a few minutes... the game froze again... and i had to shut off my pc... yeah. i believe permanent damage has already been done to my pc thanks to this game.
I made another topic, I figure perhaps one of the only ways to get square enix's attention is if enough people just try and show what's really going on, if their entire technical support forum is "game is crashing" ..maybe they'll pay attention.
Limiting FPS to 30 helps a lot for me, but it just moves the crashes from every 5 min to every 30 min.
Just to offer some feedback with my experience since reverting back to 314.22 nvidia drivers, I've not experienced any crashes since my post on the 25/10, up until today that is when I had one. I was experiencing the full computer freeze where everything would lock up shortly after FFXIV had frozen.
Nvidia drivers 331.65 and 314.22 seem to be the most stable drivers for Final Fantasy XIV. try to limit FPS to 30 or 60 will also help. For ATI Radeon users I don't know what's most stable.
