Formal Letter to SE about RMT situation.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I believe a good way to combat this would be to have some kind of in-game system in place where players (after proving they are trustworthy), have the ability to do something about the RMT accounts that are spamming us right then and there. For example, take a screenshot of the RMT spam so that you have proof that it was indeed a gilseller /tell, then either temp ban, or suspend the account. Who knows, my suggestion may not be practical, but I'm sure we could help in some way.

I do not frequent these forums as I spend all of my time in this game that I love, but after hearing of this thread I felt that I had an obligation to respond and add my name to this list. You have an amazing community SE, use us to your advantage, we can combat this together.

However many times it's been said before, I feel it needs saying again: we as players need to have the ability to set filters on what we don't want to see in tells. Apart from blocking potential harassment, a custom filter for specific strings could block out most of the RMT-related spam players receive just by merit of common wording, phrasing, and specific sites being advertised.

For a server where someone can get shouts and tells spammed at them from seven different throw-away characters in three minutes, there really is no excuse for not having a more effective remedy to this harassment.

Not for the main thrust of this thread (the opening post of which was quite carefully and politely written), but then the discussion strayed into some insults against SE's special task force members that the moderators decided had crossed the line. We're free to discuss problems and frustrations we have with the game, but not to insult people.

If it follows the most common pattern of other MMOs, the majority of the gil sellers are likely to be Chinese, and English is just as foreign to them as Japanese is. They'll learn enough of any language they need to be able to advertise wherever it will bring in the most profit.

I've made threads on this topic before...and now it's getting substantially worse. Luckily, on my server I can at least black list them as they appear...it only adds about 10 to the list per day and I can see that SE is banning about 2 on my blist per day. That doesn't even mention the friend requests. There have been plenty of suggestions regarding these issues. Expanding the black list, right click reporting functionality, and the capacity to filter tells to only players in friend list (or free company/linkshell members) would be a good start. A second black list that reported rmts are automatically placed into would be even better...that way we have the capability to separate other players that we want blacklisted from the rmt trash.

Could probably remove any notification that tells them they have been blacklisted if they send the spam to a person that has blacklisted them. This in theory will keep them from deleting said BL'd character just to create a new one and start all over again.
