i honestly dont "care" anymore.. ill focus on my backlog and finish Xenoblade Chornicles and The Last Story after that.
I saw a friend who DID get an alpha invite and the game looked IMO like a WoW clone with Final Fantasy elements.. sad
Cool story broQuote:
WoW clone
Okay, when people say WoW clone, I think they really mean Themepark MMO (opposition to Sandbox MMOs). Sense WoW was the first one to do that sort of thing and it's more of a subgenre now that all major MMOs are trying to cash in on. Because of that it can feel like they're just cloning the structure, playing it safe and not daring to venture into anything new.
"Cloning" Everquest back in the day wasn't as much of a big deal sense there where so much fewer MMOs out there and people just not bored of the mechanics from over saturation unlike now where such MMOs are a dime a dozen, or they didn't even have a chance to play an MMO before and the whole experience was new.
You all also have to remember SE listed the requirements for Alpha, if you sent in your application with specs that weren't what was requested you have almost zero chance at getting into Alpha, try again at Beta...
They're going F2P.
They where considered improvements over the other Themepark MMOs but they ultimately failed to impress.
Personally I think it's because of a total and complete lack of subtlety and class in the designs. (It's not, I just really hate the designs they went with)
This as well as failing to keep up with demand. SWTOR for example did a single player style story setup (typical with Bioware games) but they dropped off in quality significantly as you got more into the story. So as much of an improvement as it may be to take WoW and slap in FF elements for example, they still have to get even that right, since most new games these days settle for doing that and failing to impress. GW2 does things differently yet a lot of people got bored of it very quickly, it didn't completely fail but most people got bored easily. The PvE "adjustments" doesn't help either.
Most people that are impressed with ARR are impressed with it being rebooted from the mess of 1.0, they still have the hurdles to overcome with themepark MMOs that new MMOs eventually trip over. Tera for example failed in every supported nation but NA, and they're going F2P to make sure it doesn't completely flatline.
You already know...

To me it was over hyping their main appeal. TERA sold you with it's more action oriented play which failed to impress for various reasons. SW main appeal was the name itself and was a great experience till end game which was barren. I believe the main appeal of FFXIV will of course be the FF name itself. If it does keep in what makes people love Final Fantasy and keep strong content rolling, I know it will hang up there with WoW and GW2.
I just wonder if its possible that the FFXIV 1.0 player base will "look into some others to play" while they wait for 2.0 - and become too immersed in another game to return to A Realm Reborn except as a temporary glimpse into what it looks like. I am trying to refrain from getting too involved into the numerous options out there right now. I think SE's timing right now is critical for the success of 2.0
that the first thing i thought while playing ARR but then again it more fun then playing wow. WoW quest where long kill 45 raptors that took forever to kill at low levels at least the time i played wow.Let's hope yoshi-p don't make FFXIV fail just to make ffxiv a wow type clone.
