MIDIs are used for most games as well as many films. Some of the most "omg this is totally an orchestra" pieces are also actually MIDIs. MIDIs have infinite types of sound and open infinite realms of possibility. I don't even understand this comment in the slightest.
Dammit they're using blue for the sky. I'm tired of blue being used for the sky.
Edit: It's even worse that you said "after a friend mentioned it". It's like "oh my friend brought up a technical statement that had nothing to do with my original opinion but I think I will now think differently just because I've been educated on something completely irrelevant to my matter of taste". Next let's complain about TARGA files and .pngs.
I absolutely love the music.
The song was wonderful. The melody had a nice balance of mostly low key with a few high points. I also love the changing tempo/beat with the change in "zones". It reminds me of the most recent generations of Zelda's music, in how you had a persistent melody in each town but depending on where you were or what shop or house you went into the tempo and beat would change. I'm really excited to experience the rest of the soundtrack with this new "dynamic" music.
I like it. It seems bright and sunny. But I especially like the "Old Gridania" area music. Its very relaxing. It all fits the scenery very well.
Wait... guys, didn't a dev or someone tell us that most music or city music in ARR was supposed to be strings of a couple different clips or tracks merged and cycled or something? Like the music was supposed to loop and be different based on the area of the city and it would fade to a different one or something... I might be hearing things. :I
Does everything has to be Final Fantasy ish? As long as the background music score fits the map and environment ambient, its good for most people. But the rest of the people will criticize simply because it doesn't cater to them...
People who complain like this can never be satisfied, because if SE makes FFXIV like WOW, then people will start complaining that it isn't like FFXI and when they try to cater to everyone, they will complain and nit pick the tiniest and stupidest thing that probably and only affect 2% of the entire population...
But anyway, enjoy the game at 2.0 launch because FFXIV ARR will be kicking ass and be populated with lots of players =)
Yes. Zelda! I grew up with Zelda. So this music made me feel right at home. I love it. I can't wait to hear other zones.
Also, idk how many of you have been to Epcot, but the music also reminds me of a part of the music in Epcot's fireworks show, Illuminations.
Specifically between 3:45 and around 8:07. For some reason this is what I was reminded of (besides Zelda) when I heard the new music for Gridania. The music for that whole show is great. And it evolves throughout the entire show. That's what I thought of when Yoshi-P said that they took apart the existing songs and made new music with each of the pieces that blends together as you change areas. I can't wait to hear more.
I definitely had Zelda/Hobbit vibes at certain moments! When I first listened, I was wondering when a catchy tune would kick in, but I've actually had the video on many times already now JUST to listen to the music. I love it, and it really makes me feel at peace and at HOME! To me, that is a success, and it's just made me more proud to be a Gridanian and Twin Adder Officer.
I do not understand why people get bored when they start to complain about this. Do you really think that old song Gridania is better than new?, I'm dedicating to present the pros and cons just ask them to close their eyes and just listen, just that and you will decide yourself. I think the new song has much more the spirit of the old Final Fantasy.

*Just listen the music dont look the video
It's so much better than the current song.

The old one just sounds like boring patcher music to me (mostly because it plays when you patch...snore!). The new one actually sounds like a town theme.
Current one starts good and then becomes tiring pretty fast. The new one is more pleasant to listen to IMO.
If that's exactly what happens. The new song goes through several cycles so that is not repetitible, if you look at only four minutes and forty seconds of video is heard like three songs at various times completely changing Notice here:

* Above all, this last part is pretty good
Someone that calls garbage something simply bcuz you don't like it can't be taken seriously...you have any idea how much ppl's work you are insulting by this? thankfully is only a very few group of deaf ppl complaining
I like the old music but i love the new one already so peaceful and goes so well with the type of city Gridania is ..quite folk-ish and i agree with some that have said it gives a hobbit shire vibe the more reason to love it! :D
I'm quite surprised with the tasteless replies via page 1. The composition used really blends in with the environmental surroundings and definitely brought more life to the revamped zone.
I liked how the old Gridania music reflected on the rather peaceful nature of the city, it certainly gave me a sense of calm, away from the slightly busier Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa cities.
I guess it will take me sometime to get used to (and eventually like) the new Grid music after figuring out all its melodies, countermelodies, effects, chords, bla bla heh. But one thing about it annoys me.... those are some really fake French horns.... gahh. I think I've heard better french horn sound samples before (if you're into audio editing or are familiar with instruments you'd understand). This soundscape however does remind me of the music from FF XII.
The instrumentation and sampling really reminds me of FFXII, and I love it. I -love- the Hobbit-ish segue even more. Admittedly I also love the -current- BGM, especially when it shifts into the Humoresque progression (shouting out To Zanarkand?), but I've kept the new BGM running on loop a few times already just to listen to. Absolutely can't wait to hear more of the game's music, it's honestly one of the things I'm looking forward to the most, as silly as that sounds. (I just love new soundtracks! I've got the 1.xx soundtrack safely on my playlist, I DEMAND MOAR.)
Has anyone ripped the BGM yet?
I like it! I think it has a Studio Ghibli feel to it, especially "The Secret World of Arrietty"

They sure did! They didn't want the same track looping over and over like we currently have so the music will change as you move around a zone. On top of that, it will also blend the transitions so the music will sound like one continuous piece.
I think this was mentioned in the special talk show they held in Japan.

Fits Gridania well.
I thought the music's beautiful. It's a massive improvement to Gridania's current theme.
I like it as well its slower and more drawn out the way a BGM should be.
I like it a lot.
It fits the new Gridania and it just sounds so perfect for it. You can really feel that it was written for those sunbathed fields of flowers; you can almost smell the flowers and feel a soft breeze when you close your eyes~
While I liked the old music it often felt kind of..disconnected to the area. I think it was really noticeable that Uematsu often had to work with only descriptions or artworks.
Also..I think some people mistake "Final Fantasy feeling" with "always the same old recycled melodies".
If a piece of music is beautiful and fitting and gives me the feeling of this beautiful world out there that I want to explore, isn't that the final fantasy right there?:o
