The main issue is that the listings are not linked. Hence why everyone fights over spaces for their retainer in the Uldah wards. Granted, this is but one of the problems encouraging everyone to hang out in one city instead of spreading out.

I'm sure people would go to the appropriate wards if they could spread out in all cities without fear of their wares NOT being seen.

Like I previous stated, this is not FFXI. The wards wasn't perfect in the beginning so they made it better than what it were. Made it's very similar to your AH, your just to lazy and spoil.

They have said that they want to combine the market wards into one. The mercantile houses were only a first step, but we should be able to access them from any city in 2.0. This will resolve the complaints about having horrible markets in certain cities.

I'd like to know if there's any possibility of adding more wards in the event that the server population fills up too fast, either that or maybe an ongoing fee that players will need to pay to have a space in there, like the fees for stalls. I didn't at first, but I like the market ward system in its current form. The only thing it's really lacking (besides space for everyone) is the ability to scroll through ALL sellers of the same item. There have been times where I wanted to buy HQ, but couldn't because the list was full of NQs. A few tweaks to the interface and the ward system would be fine. And yes, this comes from someone who has played XI for many years.

I'ts much easier and fast.

My main issue with MW is that I have to physically go into the wards and find my retainer and then put the items on my retainer. Then I have to run to see the price so I can price my item so it can sell, and then go back and price them. If all of this could be streamlined into something that could be done from a menu I wouldn't mind so much. If that isn't done the MW will still be an annoyance at least to me.

As far as the other features are concerned, at least on my server nearly nobody uses them. If a feature isn't used it's pointless to have. The last time I have seen any of those features used in fact was probably the week of launch.

I myself would suggest putting in an Auction House with bid and buyout features. Also, I would remove the option to bazaar from the player character themselves, but keep the retainers and Market Wards and use them as storage and bazaars. In FFXI it was always kind of an annoyance to me that you had to be logged in to bazaar your items that you didn't want to sell on the AH because of things like an insanely high fee to post the item up. With this system in place the MW and retainers could function as like a designated bazaar area/alternate place to buy items other than AH and the player wouldn't have to be logged in to have the items up. I would have the retainer posted in the player's estate where they would speak with/summon them and have them function similar to a mog house and give the option to have them bazaar items in the wards.

go to uldah cuz thats where everyone sells stuff
go into any ward cuz i cant search from outside the wards
search
select the ward i think the item is in
select the type of item i think it is
scroll thru the list it would be nice if it were sorted by rank
check the stats price etc
if i like i mark it
then i gotta start a new search for maybe a better item
then i gotta move to the ward where the item is being sold
when I get there find the retainer
buy the item if it hasn't been sold already

I may be lazy BUT I waste enough time in game running from point A to point B, waiting to get/start a xp party, searching the web (cuz some crap in this game is confuzin as hell) for quest help/mob location etc., to have to deal with the bullshit MW mechanics.

Selling items is even more annoying in my opinion..

- go into the market hall

- talk to npc

- look how the prices are actually

- leave the market hall

- enter the market area where your retainer npc is in

- transfer the item to the retainer npc and set the price.. do it again if you want to sell more items/materials


instead of directly transfer the item into an auction house. no we first have to go to our retainer puppet.

really annoying when you want to sell several raw materials. im not doing this anymore. because its too annoying for these low prices... ah well and i dislike that i cant sell items before a player had repaired it to 100%


i dont get why we need "zombie" npc's who are standing all day around in different market instances.. for what? for wasting traffic on the server or for what? personally i dont enjoy to walk through an army of "zombies". for 100% i buy stuff directly at the market hall npc... although it means i have to pay an extra charge

You think the market ward system is challenging ? In what way ? It's a time sink, an exercise in frustration, and a poorly implemented system.

Yup like I said aside from the press and players who left even the majority of remaining players would prefer an AH.

This would be eye opening and suprising if it hadn't been polled already dozens of times here, on other sites, written on every review and evidenced by the official poll.


What I'm trying to say here is why is this even up for discussion anymore?

I can't believe fixing this issue can still be used as an excuse why they can't work on proper quest storytelling, shifting focus from the dull leves and letting us get to Ishgard.

Nope. None of that. We must find a way for the. Servers to display 100 zombie clones as surely that if anything will bring the game up to "modern standard".

This is already slated to be fixed in ARR. That's why I'm not talking about it. why complain about something that's already going to be fixed? What I haven't heard about yet is making it so we don't have to go through 300 menus to list an item for sale.

Once the 3 cities are truly linked and selling items are fixed (e.g. people can actually sell stuff without worrying if the wards are "full" and without a million menus to go through), we'll essentially have an AH in every way but name, so player's preferences will be realized.

Currently, buyers have all the key features of an AH: Searching, Buying from a list, sales history, list showing cheapest items first. This is everything FFXI's AH did and more. This part is mostly fine. It's putting up stuff for sale that's convoluted and broken.

And I'll keep posting this til people realize how little difference there truly is right now beween what we have and an AH and people don't need to beg for what we already mostly have. All I see in this thread is a lot of baseless complaining, just saying "I want AH!" without any valid explanation. The MW can be fixed to be not only just like an AH, but superior to one.

The concept of markets is not inherently flawed. It's just that SE's implementation was pretty shitty, especially at the beginning- but it was fixable, and they've fixed a lot of it already. People just beg for an AH because other games have one and they know it works. But that doesn't mean other systems can't be invented that also work.

You continue to contradict yourself in your own posts as well as over generalize. I'm not trying to pick it apart but you are defending a broken system while at the same time praising it.

It has been broken since Alpha, in Alpha we said change it. In Beta we said change it. At launch we said change it. And in 2.0 we are saying change it. This is not a key feature of the game. Just like people have said in previous posts. Go with the standard here and spend resources on content.

In the end, as long as I can post an item in less than 10s from arriving at a non-instanced/zoned location and buy one just as quickly I don't really care. But currently we are facing issues like changing zones just to shop, not being able to see prices and immediately sell and item. We also can't see beyond the cheapest 20 items and a myriad of other issues. The only plus this currently carries is the storage space end of story. You cannot argue this further. There is absolutely no benefit.

Give us a storage in our houses and make an AH. Better yet, lets model it off the current world standards. Let me drop it on the ground ah la Elder Scrolls, set it up wherever I like and have an AH terminal in my house so I can sell stuff on FFbay.com

The big problems i have right now are(aside from what is already stated):

1) Can't sort by +1. it automatically sorts by price.

2) People have an item for max gil in their inventory to maintain a space, so if it's a 'cheap' item i actually want, it shows up and gives me 'false hope'

3)can't search for certain materia melded items. (IE: as a whm I'd really like an enhancing+ head. but i have to look at all potential pieces, most heads are healing/mnd+ so finding rarer items is difficult)

4) things of the same price do not stack. (IE: retainer Isellcrystals has 5 rubelite rings for 20k. it shows up and takes up 5 slots, rather than rubelite ringx5 for 20k each)

5) retainer serves no other purpose. it would be great if there were retainer missions you can send them on for gil/item rewards.

IE: a wealthy merchant in Uldah is throwing a wedding for his son. you send your retainer to help, and they have stats based on yours. IE: if you have cul leveled you can send your retainer to help with the festivities. based on level, they will either help cook, serve, etc. and you will get a reward based on level and RNG. your NPC takes a % cut of the reward. you could get gil or 'rare' (not sold by NPCs) cooking ingredients as a reward.

I'll wait and reserve judgment to see how it works in beta, (hopefully) but at the very least the markets need to be centralized and have more refined search options. (i.e. be able to toggle HQ items or items with materia only, and be able to see more than 20 items. Either that or make it purely a bid system)

I know they're trying to keep a unique system, but I wonder how much easier it would be on the server to just set up a more traditional AH system like FFXI or WoW, opposed to having 1000s of retainers in each city. Too many different, half-implemented concepts shafted this game at launch. I don't want to see it happen again.

I'm not contradicting myself.

I'm praising the system for what it does right (there are things it does right) and defending it because fixing it is better and less work than replacing it. These two things are not contradictory. It has things that are just fine and it has things that need work. Maybe you're not familiar with the concept of things being able to have both strengths and flaws.

The fact is, people beg for an auction house yet the market wards have already all but been turned into one. Be able to get your items posted for sale via a single UI, and bam- suddenly it's an auction house, with some extra cool features which are what set it apart from one (Anonymity, Being able to request items not just sell them, and request repairs for items not in use)

All it takes is some fixing and the wards will be just as good if not better than an auction house. Hell, the system already does more than FFXI's AH did- you couldn't search for items by typing in a name in XI. Also, you can see the selling prices instead of having to guess what the lowest price might be.

I'm not sure what's more impressive... The frequency with which I see this "logic" of "if it's in FFXI it shouldn't be in XIV" come up. Or the fact that people actually think it's in any way a solid line of argument.

Considering that the AH system in XI actually works and has for as long as the game's been running with the only major change to it being all the nations' AH's being linked... Meanwhile, the ward system has presented nothing but issue on top of issue since launch (hence why they've had to continuously work on them and are giving them an overhaul for 2.0).

Also, if you're so against something in XI being in XIV then, in all sincerity, how the hell are you even playing this game?

Real-time travel by ferry? Yep, XI had the Mhuara <-> Selbina ferry.

Don't want XIV to be anything like XI? Too late! You're swimming in similarities every minute you're logged in.

So really, if you're so emotionally against "anything from XI being in XIV", then it boggles the mind how you can even stand getting past the damn character select screen.

Or maybe it's just that you don't have a good argument against an AH in lieu of the MW system, but feel the need to say something anyway?

It further boggles my mind how people are bringing up suggestions for things to be "like in GW2", have brought up suggestions from WoW, and Rift, and TOR and other MMOs and that's perfectly fine. All MMOs that are their own universes and their own themes, with their own specific gameplay design and structure... that's a-okay. Bring those up all day long and no one will flinch. Bring up something from a previous title in the series that just happened to also be a MMO and just happened to have a successful run - like say, FFXI - and holy crap, people start foaming at the mouth.

TL;DR - An AH similar to FFXI's would be a better option than an incaration of XIV's MW system because XI's AH has demonstrably worked in that game for almost a decade. XIV's MW system has only persisted in frustrating, despite multiple attempts to improve and streamline it - some of those improvements, incidentally, being more in line with XI's AH than anything else.

Borrowing ideas from other games that were successful isn't inherently bad, but in this case I feel people are just blinded by the term "AH" and they could say "we're putting AH in the game' but just rename the market wards and people wouldn't know the difference.

From the buyer's perspective, buying items works just like any auction house. This part is fine outside of needing some polish (sort options, collapsing identical items by the same seller, some other stuff ppl have mentioned)
The selling end needs considerably more work- but this can be done.

People complain about the markets being speerated, yes, that's true but that's going to be changed. It's a waste of time to complain about things that are already planned to be fixed.

Another thing I want to see SE make work in their market system is the seeking for an item part. They implemented it, but pretty badly. First, you had to actually HAVE one of the items that you were looking to buy in your inventory. (kinda defeats the purpose huh?) Also, I don't think there was anything that reflected in the search that came later that someone was looking for something, but I think people stopped bothering using it by that point that even if it did appear I've never seen it.

A friend of mine is playing GW2 and he mentioned that they have a system like this in their AH where you can pick an item out of their list (maybe their AH list is populated from their database and will show every item available?) and make a request for it with a specific price, and people can interact with that directly through the AH.

As long as the wards are centralized then I don't particularly care, but if they are centralizing them .. I keep asking myself "what's the point?" -- as soon as you centralize the wards/retainers, you may as well scrap the whole thing and set up an Auction House because it's not really much different. I'm not going to go searching through physical people in any ward, I'm going to use the search function and find what I need even if I have to pay a small premium for using the search function. Essentially all I'm doing is using an AH system at that point, so I'd rather they just implement that and be done with it.

Another big problem with the market wards is an item's visibility. If you don't know exactly what you're looking for, you're probably not going to find it. There's really no way to easily browse the MWs. As long as this is fixed I really don't care whether we get an AH or keep the MW. Although, I do lean towards AH just because I'm more familiar with that style of setup.

That is a fair point. I like the idea of being able to request items, but it doesn't help much when you already have to posess the item before you request it (and you can only request up to the same number that you currently posess).

Like I said before, buying works fine for the most part (as mentioned before, more sorting options would be nice), it's selling that needs the most work.

They could mostly ditch the retainers (I suppose they could appear at the mercantile house while interacting with the same NPC you use to buy items) and instead let people idle in the market to add their personal bazaar in (right now, this doesn't seem to work).

For the most part, if they can cut down on the number of menus I have to go through to sell something, I'll be happy. The buying part already works the way I like it- I don't want bidding, because then I potentially have to either wait hours or pay extra if I want the item right away. But I ALWAYS want it right away.

? If you at least know what KIND of item you're looking for, just use the category search, or just type the first few letters of an item name in (e.g. "Mind" gives me all four mind materia).

If you know your item is armor, you check in Armorfitters or Tailors Rows. If you know your item is a weapon you check in Battle or Magic which furthers break it down into the classes available.

If you know you're looking for food..well, where do you normally go when you want food? Or ingredients to make food?

If you go into the mercantile house you don't even have to pick a ward, just type what you are looking for...

I get this but there's 3 different levels of tailor's row and their organized into subcategories that to a newer player wouldn't make sense. How's a new player supposed to know whether to buy from the hat section of tailoring or the head section for their botanist? I'm not talking about for the people that have been playing the game for a while. I'm talking about newer player. It may be plain as day to you but when I first came back I found the MWs intimidating when looking for gear.

Right now what matters the most is A) get rid of the retainers as they serve no function whatsoever

B) Re- brand the system as an Auction House to win over the intrest of people who left because of MW
It'll also serve as good advertising when ARR reviews mention that this is indeed fixed from the launch days.

Actually, that's what it used to be. Now it's a disfigured AH with a decent buying process but a busted selling process. Fix the latter and it will be a workable system.

It doesn't have to be. It's already been hugely improved over what it once was, with some more care and attention it will turn out just fine, with a hell of a lot less effort than rebuilding a new system from scratch.

So let me get this straight: you think having storage slots is ONLY possible with the 3d retainers. I'm speechless.

If we get alternate storage options like in our rooms then I won't care if they completely get rid of the retainer system.

XI had a whole bunch of ways to increase inventory and store gear and rent space in a mog locker.

Since we're getting houses it seems like a now brainer addition to make the home as central hub of our gear and loot management. I'd rather trust my stuff in the hands of a house-mog than my item-slave-boy-004

Anyone who supports the retainer system is in favour of slavery. When was the last time any of you paid your retainer ?

Like... no one is saying that we shouldnt have an area where we could bazaar stuff on our retainers but like in real life... I like to buy my toiletpaper from a supermarket and my vegetables from markets.

I personally find the market wards just a bit stupid waste of time and I don't understand why bother waste time trying to improve it. I suppose someone said this already, but the nice thing about market wards is we don't have to go from storage thingy (moogle/retainer/whatever) to sale place, and back. We can do it all from our retainer, and I'm sure they're going to streamline it all in 2.0. It's clunky now, but at least we have a search counter. I honestly see little difference between this and an AH besides hidden sale prices. If they can solve the retainer cap problem it'll be fine.

i dont know how you feel, but selling materials and items is so annoying .. checking "AH" prices at the NPC... change market.. go to your retainer and trade your material.. then go again if you want to sell more than one.. its annoying, instead of directly sell it via auction house.


man how i enjoyed to go shopping and selling stuff in an auction house in FFXI.. that was fun ;XD
