Yes, it is perfectly logical. Absolutely. I am not being sarcastic in ANY way. >_>

...I hate to be the one to say this... but "latency and lag" are an excuse.
I'm sure we will test the JP servers and if its worth staying on a JP server, then we can tell them that we don't really "need" the other data centers. That's just a thought though
I am really hoping this is a mis-communication in translations. Because if this is true, I won't quite but I would not be surprised if I start to lose interest in the game.
1. I hate using a content finder to do everything, I prefer to either do it with friends (which btw are in Europe, Japan and the US) or shouts (which are also in Europe, Japan and the US). A content finder just segregates things more and shows that the game will be a collection of lonely instances with a hint of other stuff.
2. This (while not intended) will segregate the world communities, making this 3 games for 3 different regions. Just by the sheer fact that most people are impulse and join groups based on shouts or communications. It was even stated by Yoshi-P in the past that non-JP typically do not use the content search features. So now we are forced to use the feature (and select a language) or stick with the current system and cause a wider rift among the world servers.
While I know it is quite feasible, and I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that the Data Centers would act as hubs to mirror content (much like Final Fantasy XI)
Seems like the more we advance the more we go backwards.
If that happens while I don't plan to quite I would not be surprised due to all of the lost connections to other players across the world I know I would find myself playing less and less until I move on to other things. This is probably the biggest and most devastating announcement of the game, and has really caused me to rethink my future with this game. I will wait until final release to make a final judgement, but lets just hope this is a translation mistake.
2.
Also, regarding the second part of your response that someone already tackled above, it's not just about choosing between lag/friends, but the fact that if you choose your friends and they happen to be in a server that's void of most people in your region, your game will suffer greatly. Why did we have to choose things like this?
It's a lose/lose situation anyway you look at it if you have friends from other regions. You can't simply force online friends to move to your server, some people you simply have fun playing with, doesn't mean they are your best of buddies. The linkshell can have up to 80 people, that can play together and tackle on content on a daily basis, and still you'll only really have chance to be friends with 5 or 10 at most. Once you pick your friends and move, you'll lose 70 people you used to have fun with, because they had to choose between their friends too.
I'm also from Brazil and still have no idea where I'm going to go, since lag isn't an issue for me.
This probably would have turned out better if the vast majority of us didn't come from FFXI where everyone was already mixed.
The sort of good news is the content finder matches across servers and can match you up with anyone. So even if you're an english player on a JP server, you can find people to do stuff with through that. It's not exactly ideal though...
That being said, this is a situation where you really can't have your cake and eat it too. You can either have good network performance and likely splitting up of communities, or you can mix everyone together and accept a JP advantage.
If the new server's architecture will greatly reduce the lag, combined with them making actions more client-side to reduce the lag there, Why even have all of this separation?
I too played WoW from a different contry to the US, freakin Iraq, and the only problem was the slow unstable 500kb connection we were limited to. it wasnt even that that bad with that.
Why ppl are crying so much O.o ? You can always stay on an international server.
Personally i will go on an european server (Finally).
You must not have any true friends or your the type who has never thought about others. So if a friend from another region chooses to stay on a different server they must not have been a true friend? lol i don't even know what to say to that
Sure this change might be beneficial to ones own game-play experience but this is not a single player game, its a MMO a game built on the community that plays it so i think community is really important.
There goes half the LS, blown to the four corners of the data centers..
I'll keep my bitching held until I can see how responsive it is, or isn't.
Also I hope they are prepared to fully support these data centers outside of Japan - each with their own at least on call support team.
I'm partial to this.
and this.
It isn't an issue of latency/lag, it's left me torn that I have too choose between friends, and I personally think it's a disgrace that it's come too this.
In retrospect, the only place I experience latency is Ifrit, and that's only when many people are stood outside the entrance to the instance and I can't say I've seen, heard or experienced any other lag other than the obvious.
Call me ignorant, but this has become nothing but bad news for me.
Yeah, Wynn, keep on with your delusion and magical insight into S-Es motives. You'll hear countless people saying they have no issue with lag, and you will not give a damn.
The one good thing about this is people will finally realize the client design was the biggest culprit in most problems.
A ray of hope is still out there to not implement segregated servers.
The Jp don't seem so impressed with the idea in general (with the same complaint as us), the segregation of the communities, odd hours people play and the language searches.
They are open to feedback though. So maybe it can change.
You don't have to choose between friends. Tell all of your friends to play on the same server.Quote:

Unless you're trying to tell me that every JP and EU player is your friend.
The servers themselves are NOT SEGREGATED. Everyone can still choose any server. Yes, it WILL have an effect of new players making a beeline towards the closest server, but friends across continents can still play together. The content finder can still match everyone from everywhere on every server.Quote:

Our best bet is that the JP complain about it as strongly as we are.
They sure as hell won't listen to us.
You can have friends from different regions. That is the main problem with all of this: how am I going to convince my EU friends to move to a server because I want to play with my NA friends (that they probably barely know or don't know at all?).
It's just not gonna happen.
It was established to be cross server when it was first announced. Unless they've said something about changing that, yes its going to be cross server. You have the choice of setting a preferred language, but it can still check any of those servers, including NA players on JP servers.Quote:
Are they still doing the cross-server content finder?
1. Don't use content finder.
(and even if you use it, you can still communicate once the group is made, and yes, the group can be international).
And again what comunication we will miss? The shouts spamm? C'mon...
2. Don't change server, and stay on jp/international ones (i'm sure that the old player base will select these ones, while new player and ppl like me that prefers perfomance on all will move on regionals).
Yeah, me and expecially old friends that have quitted were waiting for this :D
(we are hardcore mmo players group, so we know how latency is important)
That's the thing though, most people are saying "If your friends don't come with you to your server then they're not true enough to you".
But do I want my friends to experience horrible lag at my expense? No.
I could go to an NA server if I wanted too, but that puts me back at Square one, I'm leaving my other friends behind, THAT is what is wrong with this.
They're separating the servers into regions, there's no international servers.
at first I wasn't happy reading this, but after reading a message from Hiir I don't mind that much.
The very few times where I was playing with players from EU or JP was from random shouts. Those will be replaced with the content finder and maybe I will be able to play with players I can actually communicate with
I do find it laughable that people are threatening to quit over not playing with people they already can't communicate effectively with (in 99% of cases)
Honestly it is a bit of a downer knowing the likely effect of listing servers by region, but if you stick to your region, the gameplay will be better as a result. Cant have the cake and eat it too.
I guess I'll wait to see, this recent news makes me wonder if they really are still planning on doing that. You'd think Y-P would've explained that in this post but he hasn't.
I know they said they'd do it in the past, but sticking with their current architecture and adding that on seems like it wouldn't work out.
Incorrect. All servers are STILL INTERNATIONAL. The effect causing regionality is servers will have regions associated with them, based on their physical location. *ANY* player can still choose to be on *ANY* server.Quote:

Right here:Quote:
Where did you read that?
I swear, did you people in the thread now not read the original post. ANYONE CAN STILL CHOOSE ANY SERVER.Quote:
Players will have the freedom of selecting any world they prefer.
This isn't true for the people who may "threaten to quit", just because you can't communicate to other regions doesn't mean the ones that "might quit" can't either, chances are they can because you don't invite german and Japanese players into your linkshell is no one can communicate with them.
Great news!
Was this issue ever a poll topic? I feel like it would have been a good one.
