I think it’s more than possible, and very likely. The tier it came from is over, and 7.3 is a non-savage patch. Wouldn’t be the first time…

Just hope it plays the correct music, unlike the Shadowkeeper… very disorienting to hear that play the same music as ocean fishing departure!

Everyone knows Shadowkeeper should have been the mount reward for the Blu Mage achievement in End Walker. And instead they put their greed first and sold it for cash.

The greater travesty was Cruise Chaser being a cash mount rather than appearing as another potential achievement track for Rival Wings, y'know... the mode it actually featured in besides its A11 appearance? Might've roped a few more wun an' dunners in to queue for a bit longer y'knoooooooow smh

But I guess that might've meant getting Astralagos up and running sooner if it became more popular. Dang.

I mean if you are no longer enjoying the game .then it is time for you to pack up your bags and move to some other game .
For me I am still enjoying the game and my friends are still playing .

It's probably because they were expecting the game to close in endwalker when the final days were upon us but alas the warrior of light spoiled their ambition .so now they are up again with their doomsaying in different setting

Except that this time it will not increase to how it was. It will be meager increase as this whole expansion was a letdown. In endwalker I had at least 60 friends constantly online, when DT came and afterwards, I have 2 friends online. All of them quit for same reasons. Player count will still be dropping and only marginal increase when "biggest" patch comes. With serious amount of issues, no doubt people just don't bother with this.

You still forget the big WoW Exodus, without it FFXIV would never reach the Numbers they had before DT so now it just goes back how it was before the exodus happend, i mean ofc some long term ffxiv player will quit but they will like i said come back for bigger patches which is completly fine, final was never a game to have a huge huge playerbase it was always kinda mid and had up and downs depending on the patch cyclus

The WoW exodus happened in 2021. FFXIV hit its highest concurrent player count of all time when Dawntrail released in 2024. It has since hit the lowest player counts that we've seen since Stormblood.

The WoW exodus is irrelevant. COVID is irrelevant. The Yoshi-P defense squad really need to get some new material.

No, the WoW exodus mattered because those players left WoW in 2021, had an 8 year content backlog to play with in XIV, and didn't go back to WoW until after Dragonflight released and the hardcore WoW players who stuck around convinced them it was good. That was in 2023.

They played Dragonflight, got bored, and bounced back over to XIV just in time for Dawntrail. That was the peak. But now they were caught up, and didn't have 8 years of content to compress into 2 years like before.

When the community turned into a negative feedback loop, a lot of them just quit both games and went to go do other stuff. Now WoW is getting the big housing update, and those former WoW players are hyped about it, while XIV isn't getting any big shiny new systems besides.... Viera hats.

We are now just getting back to 2020 numbers, maybe lower but thats how it is, like i said previous final was always this way people quitting when there is nothing to do and coming back for bigger update, it is how it is, it will always be stay the same.

Dipping a couple thousand has been the norm during low patches and minor content droughts, not going to a 5 year low. That's something else entirely.

a couple thousand? did you actually check your facts? the time between 7.2 and 7.3 had always HUGE drops not only a couple thousand and like i said you cant literally count the last few years in because of all the WoW player and covid like Catwho said earlier, when do people understand it? the 2020 numbers are the real numbers

I guess it's conceivable that the intrinsic limitations of the game mean that it cannot maintain a player count above 2020 levels.

The problem is that the quality of the game is manifestly getting worse, both in terms of the cadence of content release and the quality of that content. I'd love to be proved wrong, but on its current path there is no way FFXIV will even stabilize at 2020 numbers.

But thats kinda a personal opinion, i know many people are unhappy how the content is atm but there are plenty people which love it, take as example me, i love OC, i love FT and i will love the DD even if its just a improved version of PotD

for you the quality drops, for me it increases because the content outside of savage/ultimate finally starts to not be a push over dummy fight

I am unsubbed. Most of the people I used to play with every day haven't been around in months. Even now very few of us are playing regularly anymore - even I don't log in daily at this point. I'm just making sure the lights get turned off before I lock up. Around this time in EW I was saying the same thing to the first wave of trailblazers unsubbing and quitting the game forever. I didn't get it. Time made sure to remedy that for me.

When the game enters a soft maintenance mode in 8.0 and development time between patches is increased to 6 months as the veterans of CBU3 are redistributed to other projects while the new hires continue writing their shonen slop story and copy-pasting dungeons from a decade ago, are you going to keep blaming Covid and WoW for it? Hardcore raiders have been shafted with the cancellation of Ultimate and no new raid content until January. Mid-core players have been shafted with the "Chaotic" raid that body-checks (SE doesn't know how to make content "hard" aside from punishing a lack of perfection), and now with the Field Operation raid that body checks with 48 players (they forgot what made Baldesion Arsenal and Bozja good). They're re-releasing Palace of the Dead for the 4th time, and Variant/Criterion dungeons - which they promised more of, are nowhere to be found. Everyone already knows the new Blu content is going to be "beat Pandemonium raids lol" and only 500 people will ever do it. The Beast Master content is going to be a bad copy-paste of Blu since that's what everything else in the game is.

The devs got mad at us during the last live letter for not playing the content they made and said "sorry you didn't like it" instead of apologizing for letting 60 year old developers continue to make content that would have been popular in 1999; ignoring a quarter century of QoL improvements and content preference changes that have occurred in the gaming industry since they made their last generational hit (it was Dragon Quest 3 or something like that).

SE has extended the dev cycle by a month each patch to deliver us the least content we've gotten in over half a decade for the same price we were promised so much more. Even the story - the main selling point of the game for years, is bad now.

The next dungeon will go like this: Pull 2 packs down a hallway, kill, pull 2 more packs, kill, go to boss, repeat 3 times. The new trial will be in/out, left/right but with different graphics and some no-name boss saying voice lines over the top of it. The Alliance raid will nostalgia bait the 22 people who played FF11 and still play FF14 with the following format: Add pack, boss, sub-boss, boss, sub-boss, boss, boss. There will be a cutscene partway through the last boss fight - that's what makes it special.

Knowing what comes next and seeing everyone leave the game, what are your thoughts? I try to bring an unbiased perspective so we can enjoy everyone's opinions :D
