HW essentially added massively on job design over ARR and solidified the main expansion structure that we still have today. But it also didn't really try to work on all the flaws of ARR wonky systems like stat allocation, weird balance, etc.
What a lot of people miss from HW are scrapped systems and concepts that were very interesting but flawed, and SE in their usual fashion would rather scrap what's flawed than try and fix it.
Stormblood brought over a lot of streamlining but also started changing how encounters were made which further informed in SHB the systematic demolition of the whole combat system that has been there until then. But you can feel by looking back that SB was already a turning point in the game's overall direction and that the devs eventually got to the finishing blow over all those systems that "got in the way" with the release of SHB.
Yeah pulling ahead was not that more of a problem than today but this little fact kept people more on the fence about it. And it was definitely a problem with new tank players at low level duties.
I wouldn't mind an up to a pre 5.0 version because tbh it felt they were going in the right direction with alot of classes.
I would do almost anything to get HW Dragoon back it was the most fun I had with the job.
I would like more mature new content than going back to the past we already had.
So far most of us are forced to do same stuff all over the time - This has to stop there must be some innovation and new path
I'm on the fence. I agree that so many QOL improvements have been made since then, but I also sorely miss an old job. I worked so hard to get good at Astrologian, and I miss it so much.
