Garbage-tier ragebait.
It is a four month patch cycle - almost exact the entire expansion. They told us they were going to move to a four month patch cycle to help alleviate stress after trying so hard to get the post-game of Shadowbringers, and the entirety of the Endwalker base expansion out while having to deal with Covid nonsense getting in their way. It's fine to not like that reason, and also fine to not find that reason to no longer be excusable, but please don't exaggerate.
I too have my doubts they'll ever return to the three-month patch cycle. I think it might have initially been their intention to do so, but after growing accustomed to the four-month cycle I doubt they'll be all that willing to work in that level of production ever again even if they've demonstrated they are quite cable of doing so. That said, six months, really? What gives you any indication that they'd slow down more? I've said it before, but I'm not Endwalker defender either. This expansion is frankly the worst we've had bar none, but there is no reason to go from constructive criticism to making up back-handed complaints that veer towards whining.
As for WoW, I can't really give much of an opinion. Never played it. Reading a few of their recent patch notes it doesn't seem like more content than the average FFXIV patch, but I don't have anything to compare it to since I never really played it. The amount of literal words I'm reading on the screen don't really do it justice. It could easily be a lot of text that amounts to nothing or a few lines about content that translates into a whole host of new things to do in game.
The fact that they've already been slowing down more.
I'm sorry, I wasn't supposed to say that.

6.0 release Dec-3-2021
6.1 release Apr-12-2022 (131 days)
6.2 release Aug-23-2022 (133 days)
6.3 release Jan-10-2023 (140 days)
6.4 release May-23-2023 (133 days)
As Koros said, that's 4.4 months between patches.
If they release patch 6.5 in early October as announced in the Live Letter, it would be on track for the 133-140 day cycle depending on the exact date.
Why do you need to play this game 365 days a year? Play a different game if there is nothing for you to do until the expansion drops.
I wouldn't say that its a defence...I do agree in some capacity that no game should occupy your time day in day out but I would want the game to give you the option to invest rather then it being mandatory like other games these days. So I am hoping down the line they can find a balance.
Until you realize even with a house, small, medium or large… your money would be better spent elsewhere than a seasonal game pretending to be a MMORPG.
4-4.5 months between patches is way too much when you start to check other online games with or without subs.
People will keep excusing this, but it’s just bad, especially with what is delivered. You don’t even get new maps to explore.
This game has no real dedicated streamer because it’s impossible to create content since it’s barebones. Should give people a hint that something is not right here.
Is that your only argument when the game has barebone patches and content with no longevity at all ?
Hey ! Pay a sub for patches that come every 4 to 4.5 months with basically nothing refreshing to do such as new maps or actual piece of content that would last more than a week or worse, hours.
Look at supposedly full-time FFXIV streamers, they gave up since it’s hard even for them to make fun and engaging content from FFXIV. They only can when some crusts of MSQ drop and that’s about it.
How can you call this a MMORPG ? The excuse is, it has a good story but even that is starting to fail and other MMOs have great stories aswell. So nothing puts FFXIV ahead of the competition, actually it’s the contrary with crappy systems as their gearing or housing.
I own a medium house in the Mists right in front of the beach. I was tempted to keep my sub but in the end, like I mentioned above… for what?
Yes it wasn’t easy to get it but what’s the point when I don’t play the game. A false hope and heavy dose of copium deluxe thinking 7.0 and beyond will be different ? Honestly I’d wait an expansion or 2, sub for a month to catch up and leave again. It’s indeed a story game/seasonal game instead of an actual good MMO or even good game…
If you compare their graphic update with WoW, you realize they hardly touched the meshes (especially characters meshes) and it’s basically some retextures and shading added in there, with a focus on flora. Yes it’s better than before but still not impressed. Some modders or even crappy WoW have done better jobs with visual updates. The funniest part is, you get 1 year of content drought, 4 months between patches and they tell you the graphics update will come slowly, fragmented and not on the release of 7.0…
I mean its all subjective whether you think its a good MMO or good game...clearly a good amount of people think it is and it seems to be enough for better or worse to keep its current trajectory. Also slightly exaggerating if you left 2 expansions worth if you paid attention to everything and didn't rush through it would take much longer then that to go through but you do you. I will agree its starting to blur the line of is this an mmo or is this a big single player story you can play with friends...but its not quite there yet on either fence. Your opinion of the story failing and your opinion of other MMOs having good stories to...maybe but its all opinion..cant go swinging it round like its fact.
Now the real weird bit is character meshes in the faces have improved on some model types its clear to see, granted they said this will still improve before release. Ideally I want the hair mesh to be smoothened out if they are sticking with just HD textures for example. 14s models are more detailed then wow its a bit of an odd comparison especially when say wow chest pieces lack depth and look like painted on abs where as 14 actually has modelled armour (There are some wow bits that aren't but broadly yes they are) WoW also had its first visual overhaul much earlier on in its cycle compared to 14. There are way more assets collectively in 14 at its current point for the graphics overhaul then WoW when cataclysm came out...on top of that wow has a much larger team and budget. I will agree to an extent some modders can do better work..but some of the ones I've seen clash with the art direction of the game. Until we see raw video youtube compression streamed videos aren't the best indicator of it all.
I also predicted they would of done this anyway with 7.0 and 2.0 being the brunt of the visual work (Got to make new players or free trial players see how nice the game looks before hitting you with the HW onwards wall downgrade :P ) and then addressing expansions during patch cycles. I mean shaders, lighting, shadows, fog effects, god rays, fauna is being systematically put in to the others just actual object density, textures etc wont be touched yet (alongside npcs and gear) which makes sense. They announced this 17 months back...they do have finite resources you cant allocate all that to a visual overhaul when your making an expansion, now xbox port, reworking the foundations of the base game for the now even further extended free trial...blah blah blah.
Call it copium...white knighting...simping...I'm just thinking broadly what may be happening. Or yeah they could be half arsing it but neither of us can prove whos right.
When I saw the characters I didn't see any meshes improvements, only shaders and improved textures.
As for the story, yes it's subjective, but a look at the forums and other medias and I see I'm not the only one thinking the story and some characters are just... not good nor super interesting. for Post-expansion story quests, we had better, even in Stormblood which is seen as one of the worst expansions (imo Endwalker does take the crown for that, since we had Eureka at least).
At the end of the day, if you're fine paying a sub for this game, rewarding their design choices and the way they work on it, it's on you. I'm not here to say what people must do or not, not my place nor am I interested in doing that. Just saying my piece before the sub runs out and I'll stay on other games where I have more fun with better content in my eyes. Still have the hope that a CM or dev member can at least report some complaints here, because yes there's an issue when your game can't even keep dedicated streamers as it has barebones content (even for those doing the harder group content). It should ring some bells.
It will only take a shiny new and well polished MMO to siphon some FF players, and for the most weebies/kawai ones, a good asian MMO to siphon the rest (unfortunately I doubt it exists since outside of FF they're all P2W trash). If they keep their same old formula for 10 more years, with the same artificial housing issues and 4 months to get 1 dungeon and maybe some raids... the game won't get that far in the long run. So they better step up and shake things a bit with the dusty design choices.
Does this give you the clarification that you're looking for?
Live Letter 68 10 year roadmap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2TWmsce_eg&t=1746s
You can literally look at the chins and see less 'faces' ears included it is quite easy to see the subtle changes but like I have said its hard to critique on it because its not the final product. This happened with FF16 as well...a year from release people said oh it doesn't look that great and the finished game texture quality, lighting etc all got bumped up and you could see the difference (regardless of questionable performance etc)
I view stormblood as the worst expansion story wise but one of the best content wise as it had some very interesting trial fights and I enjoyed Eureka granted I played it when it was 'revamped' I think Endwalker needed to still be longer to really hammer home half of its ideas but I think its ok as a companion piece to shadowbringers (Its like how I think Avengers Endgame isn't really great unless its accompanied by Infinity War)
I have only done a daily frontline to do the PvP rewards as I am feeling a little burnt out of years of playing and new content or more content isn't going to remedy it for me. However and I know not everyone is in this position...my sub fee costs the price of a Mcdonalds meal (its £7.69) and I sometimes have it twice a week or once a week depending on my work schedule and I think to myself I can just let the sub lapse as its negligible to me. I do have a large FC house with a friend of mine so I am happy to keep it going for that as well. I am also keeping the deep dungeon, new variant and likely the next variant along with the relic steps for crafter/gatherers as my gap filler....even then FF7 remake part 2 early 2024 as well so woop woop for that.
14 is a game I wouldn't really watch a streamer for it just doesn't have the content types to get that attention hence why most of them run the course or go away from it. I also don't think a game should mandatorily demand my time to keep up with everything, if things are optional that's great. But when every single game is trying to put systems in place to keep you there it gets exhausting. Also in no way shape or form should twitch/youtube influencers or streamers indicate the health of a product, I hate how the hobby of gaming is now being changed because of these sorts of people. The other thing is...until the player numbers drop then you won't get your answer...the metrics are showing that if people have had enough of the content they would of ditched a long time ago, well before covid era.
The official forums are basically a place where "just play other games" type-people meet people who are only here to air grievances until they unsub and can't post here anymore. If these forums allowed unsubbed players or even trial players to post, you'd see way more criticism than we're even seeing now, but most people actually do just unsubscribe and play other games. I'm playing another MMO currently, and there are so many former XIV players in it that they're calling us "refugees." And all of them have cited similar reasons for leaving the game behind. Like, I'm getting WoW refugee vibes from the whole situation. Remember when WoW players were flooding into XIV, saying the future for their old game just seemed bleak? Same situation here. It's uncanny. Of course, none of them can post here because their accounts are no longer active or whatever. I think for a more holistic picture, it's important to look at the entire thing. Yeah, there are a lot of people who still love this game and they come here to defend it. The people who'd disagree with them are largely barred from posting here, but they're quite vocal (if you ask them why they quit xiv) when you run into them in other games. TLDR I think if the forums let anyone with a SQEX account post, a lot of these frivolous "just play something else" type arguments would get overwhelmed with derision from an ocean of people with basic sense. Like... obviously the option exists to play other games. People want to play this one. That's why they're here, paying monthly for it.
Maybe stop treating everything like a battle and realise that people aren't "defending the game", they're simply giving you some healthy advice.
No game can pump out content faster than players can consume that content, that's just a fact of media creation in general.
It's insane to me that people should expect to have brand new content every single day, 365 days a year.
This has been the case in Lost Ark before as well, before that game went into the gutters. It still has superior combat and fun raids though as long as you refrain yourself from actually trying to get to cutting edge.
To your point, it is extremely ironic that the simps would declare that this negative sentiment is in the minority when it's actually probably the majority of everyone who has played FF14 before. Everyone I know IRL who tried FF14 quit because it was boring. And I have literally never seen any positive sentiment about FF14 outside of FF14 other than its story and its perceived positive community. FF14 itself is now at a point where people openly criticize EW's lack of content. People say that unprompted all the time in game and here's the kicker: unlike on the forums I literally don't see anyone ever disagreeing. It's far more common for people to join in agreement.
You know the worst part about all that ? If they incentivized more playing with other people "organically", content would be far less of an issue, but they chose to make the game solo oriented, even the group content feel like solo since you don't need to organize/communicate until you start doing extreme trial.
Now don't get me wrong, i'm a solo player enjoyer but that direction make new content a central part of the experience requiring decent and more importantly frequent updates, sadly they completely failed to deliver on that part thus resentment is growing and they can only blame themselves for it.
I don't know - I mean, this is a bit of a grey area in my view. I recall that thread fairly well and whilst the OP expressed the opinion that life is pointless (hence the Meteion was right context) the OP was nonetheless future-focused and I don't think they directly expressed suicidal ideation per-se.
And, from experience, people who openly express thoughts of suicide are not usually (its certainly not exhaustive) the ones most likely to actually try. It's the ones who tell absolutely no-one, because you don't find out that they felt that way until it's too late :(
What would you suggest they do to create that "organic" opportunity?
Most of the MMORPGs since WoW's release have contained a fair amount of solo content. That's one of the things that made WoW so hugely appealing - players could progress their characters even if their friends weren't online to play. They weren't forced to socialize with random strangers who may or may not be pleasant to play with. It made player gatekeeping of content access less likely to happen.
What is it that makes some players avoid random group matchmaking and turn to solo content? Other players.
It doesn't make any difference how "organic" game developers make the group content experience if there will continue to be a segment of the player base being judgmental, hostile and just plain unpleasant to be around. Too many people already have to put up with that sort of thing all day long at work, the last thing they need is to deal with it in their games. Try to force the socialization with the negative element and the player population starts shrinking.
FATEs are a nice piece of organic content. Players are free to come and go as they please. When the only reason to do them is for XP, GC Seals and gemstones, parties are relaxed and friendly.
The moment SE tries to make FATEs more relevant for things like relic weapons, it gets ugly as everyone descends on the zones. Players using the OP BLU abilities to insta-complete FATEs and prevent others from getting credit. Players who mess around and reset mobs, causing the efforts of other players to be wasted.
It's a bit ironic that players are occasionally the reason players don't get the things they're asking for. What's the point of adding content that will inevitably end up ruined by those who can't "play nice"? Less of a headache to design content as solo content, while still leaving room to play with friends, than to design content to require socialization.
It takes time to develop new content. They could push out content faster but it would start getting really sloppy and would likely be filled with bugs. This is true of every MMORPG. Check the content release periods for the others over the years and see how much content was being produced and how long players had to wait to get it.
I know some people like to point at WoW right now but there are a couple of things to keep in mind: WoW has a bigger development team than FFXIV and the reason that Shadowlands ended up content starved was because they realized they had a dog of an expansion on their hands. They choose to put more of the development team to work on Dragonflight to make it a better game than to try to salvage Shadowlands. It seems to have worked but the pace of content releases will end up slowing back down for WoW again before much longer. Then WoW players will start having the same complaints that we hear about FFXIV.
The easy solution: learn to enjoy playing mutiple games. Don't look to a single game as your be all and end all. Play when new content is released, do what you're interested in then move to another game with new content while waiting for the next content release.
If you're going to keep asking for innovation and new types of content, don't be surprised when existing content gets shortchanged or left out as they move staff to work on the new stuff.
If you feel like you're not getting your money's worth, then stop buying. Go somewhere that is giving you a good value for your money. It does not make sense to be paying just so you can be angry and miserable.
This isn't a new direction, though. We've always had the MSQ be mostly solo with required group instances. The only thing they changed was that the group instances don't always require others now. We can use the Duty Support system. I mean people can be resentful there's not more optional group content, but it would be silly to get mad that the already-mostly-solo MSQ is being made more soloable.
As i said, i'm a solo enjoyer so i need my dose of fresh and fun content on a regular basis, currently i get that from other games but obviously i'm frustrated that ff14 give me so little even after multiple months of break.
FATE are a perfect example (and the worst) of a decent concept at the time it came out that never really evolved, the reward are shit and the gameplay is just a repetitive/glorified mob bashing with a flavor text.
As a standalone content, they are absolutely awful, now they can be use as part of a bigger concept like Eureka and Bozja but as they are in the open world, it's an outdated and boring idea that didn't aged well at all.
You don't make content relevant by forcing it unto people, what kind of idiotic mentality is that ? Of course it's not gonna work and create the opposite effect, i sure hope they learned that lesson and it's certainly not the players fault to try and circumvent boring content. How about making it fun in the first place ? It's obvious they don't care about that when it come to FATE, they are just here to add a line on the expansion content showcase at that point.
So no i'm not gonna "quit" because i'm disgruntled with how they handle content and i'll continue complaining and being cynical about it because i paid for 1 month of content and if i'm not getting it in the game i'm gonna get it in the forum while doing something else :3
The sad part about FATES is they have great boss ones. Killing Order and Devout Pilgrims are really good FATES. That's what I wanna see more of. Big random battles that are fun to do and gets everyone out together doing them. No one cares about collecting plants or killing trash mobs for FATES, but when it comes to the big bosses, people start showing up and for 20 minutes the zone is 'alive'
It would be really nice if they even reused some old stuff to implement various filler content.
8 man deep dungeons.
Duels at overworld.
Eureka/Bozja style actions and critical engagements in overworld.
Automated tournaments for PvP and Mahjong.
There's so many things they could throw at the game and see what sticks. You'd think with years worth of assets, they could whip up some prototypes to see player reaction.
Tha'ts why you should make multiple accounts. That one guy once openly mock a fellow forum member with diabetes and he still here, with different account and the same habit of necroing threads.
No one was disgusted by his actions because he's on the correct side of the two factions.
I didn't read this whole thread because I'll assume my imagination is correct.
A whole year before Dawntrail means to me that I can get a ton of achievements, get a few more relic weapons, complete beast tribes on this character, more achievements, and just play general catch up. Silver lining.
I was banned, for 10 days, as it's a first offence.
And my words were taken out of context and twisted by point-scoring vultures looking to cancel someone. Not actually concerned with those who have actual suicidal thoughts, just looking to be outraged by someone who appears to be egging it on out of context, but was in fact doing the complete opposite.
Keep it up GCBTW. Going back to ignoring General Discussion.
So you got 10 days for telling someone to kill themselves, but I got also 10 days for "strong language", which was 2 swear words (1 f-bomb and 1 poop word), neither directed at anyone? Especially since it was clear that people went through my post history just to find something to spam report and get me banned? This moderation is a joke. And yes, they absolutely do not care about any kind of context, people need to stop being so naive. They look at reported comment in a bubble, they do not care about anything else.
You already proved you dont care for anyone and its still disgusting to treat people with mental illnesses as subhumans that shouldn't exist. But apparently "its just a joke taken out of context". I dont know how you telling someone to off themselves and people calling you out for it is taking something out of context then brushing it off as a joke and your words shouldn't be taken seriously.
