The only thing I'm slightly worried about with name changes is people going ninja on guild banks, changing names / char models. You will literally never be able to find that person, unless you allow a history of their character to be seen.. Even then, lol.. seems like it would be pretty tough.. I haven't met someone who I think would do that, but definitely an opening for such things.

They could always keep a record of it on the lodestone...so regardless of what they change to their old name will show up on the new name profile, etc.

Anyone know if we'll be able to rename our retainers? Cause really, I'd like that ability. I mean it's supposed to be their nickname anyway... XD or can we do it now and I just haven't seen it?

I figure if they make name changing a one time thing why not just have a title "formerly known as x" so people can adjust to the new name or if you meet an old friend who doesn't recall you by said name you can pull out the title and they can go oh hey it is you!

Well, it's not easy, but it is possible...technically. You just have to either sell a bunch of junk in your retainer's inventory or find really good (and patient!) friends to hold all their things for you while you release your retainer from service and hire a new one.

I know it's a pain, but it does let you choose a new name. I've replaced both of my retainers since the game launched.

i think they could show the history on lodestone, or have friendlists reflect the changes

hope they don't manage to make it work; if my friend tomato changes his name to potato, I'll be the one guy who calls him tomato forever. People from xi call me by my xi name.
I actually decided I wouldn't change into male miqote because of my name. Two years together yo.

Woo, glad to hear it! Thanks for the heads up :D I won't be taking advantage of this myself, I named my Hume with the name I eventually wanted my Miqo'te to have, but I know a lot of people planning to switch race/gender in 2.0, and this'll make them quite happy.

While that may be, titles can be changed/ignored just as easily (I don't mean change as in it could say "formerly known as X" to "Y", but someone may not want to use said title anymore)... though I'm not against giving the kind of titles either, I just think at the very least, name change histories should be shown on a character's profile page in the Lodestone.

I know that option is always there and right now, it doesn't matter much if you release a retainer or not. Later on, after 2.0 I heard that the retainers may get levels or some such thing? In which case, it could be problematic to keep deleting a retainer if one wants to rename it.

Tbh, I was hoping that they would just give us the ability to change the nickname without deleting the retainer. Still, it seems as if that's the way to go about it.

Wouldn't mind changing my last name it was kind of spontanious and off the top of my head because it seems my name is rather quick to get snatched up in MMO's.

I would like them to give us a name change when Version 2 is released, it will be nice!

i bet they have alot of things that needs priority at the moment.

I myself, want to see name change & server selection by the time beta goes live.

Just adding option to change looks / race with no option
to to select world or new name would be Uncool.

If we're able to change our names, I hope folks who got the Collector's Edition will be able to reapply for the right of passage certificate that came with it, it'd be a shame if I decided to change my name and all of a sudden the certificate hanging on my wall became invalid with no way to get a new one to reflect the name change.

Sorry just my personal opinion on it. If a person wants to change their name especially if they're going from male to female or whatever. Let them especially if they are able to implement it into the game for that one time only. I myself... I can't see myself changing my name from Rannie... I've been known online as Rannie for 14 years. I play as Rannie in games if I'm a male or female character it doesn't matter to me. (Unless I hide who I am or for some odd reason it's been taken which always surprises me). Hell, in FFXI I was Rannie on Alexander for a short while before I moved to the bismark server as Rannie still. Anyway, if they can do it then as Jean Luc Picard says.... Make it so!

Right now we're going with two names Given and Surname I don't see them changing that unless they allow spaces in the first name or last name portion or if they allow us a nickname but I get the feeling that it won't happen.
