That's what we normal people expected. But apparently "optimising" to everyone else on these forums meant "downgrading graphics so that people on low spec computers can play".

I currently run the game on max settings, I run Crysis 2 on extreme with Radeon HD 6890's Crossfire. I'm not jumping to conclusions and crying foul over a couple of screenshots released months before the actual game. Even if the games turn out to be exactly what the screenshots portray it doesn't bother me, I'm more concerned with the game being more enjoyable than it currently is.
This assumption that these screenshots accurately represent the product we'll see in 6 months is pure ignorance, but I think you already made that point earlier:
So next time. how about not acting like you speak for everyone.
It's kind of hard to follow what your point is. So you agree graphics need improvement? And you expect they will be improved later?
Well I agree with you. Question is, will they be improved enough to avoid being considered a downgrade.
Anyways, forums are for feedback at the end of the day.
What? How do you get that nonsense out of a single sentence? What you call a "downgrade" is completely subjective and your opinion that is not shared by everyone so stop acting like it is. In my opinion the screenshots are fine, I don't need mapped textures, high dynamic range, and ray tracing when I don't even want to play the game because it uses decade old mechanics.
Whether they are "improved later" is completely beside the point because frankly YOU have no idea if the screenshots that were just released are even an accurate depiction of what 2.0 will look like. 2.0 could turn out to be heads over heels better looking or they could decide to use 8-bit textures, the point is you have no idea. I'm honestly hoping they decide to go the 8-bit route so that elitists such as yourself can find another mmo with over hyped visuals and mind-numbing gameplay.
In summary, you care about graphics, good for you. I and others just want an enjoyable Final Fantasy mmo first and foremost. I do not share your opinion so stop making up logical fallacies that your opinion IS everyone's opinion, because its not.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa Wait.
How does 2.0 Look worse than 1.XX? o - o
Excuse me while i find my katana..
2.0 looks Sexy! I want to fucking glomp it.
Ingolf and Bobbygunz are still at it days later!?
Can you please just accept that "2.0 graphics are terrible" and don't meet your standards then go away forever please?
Well it's kind of confusing when you agree that there are no mapped textures and such and yet go on to deny a downgrade.
I still don't know why people are taking this so personally though. Yeesh, is it so hard for S.E. to add in better textures? That's just a simple request/feedback. My bad, using the forums for their intended purpose.
Again, "downgrade" is your opinion but at this point I think the definition escapes you. The only one I see taking it personally is yourself. If it really is such a blow to your ego that you don't need to overclock your gpu to run the game on max settings then move on. We're just happy to even have a 2.0. There's a difference between feedback and claiming everyone agrees with you, news flash, no one does.
I am probably waaaay late on this, but i think that the screenshots were just taken from the demo setup. I do not think that they paid >$1200 for the demo systems, and people would be screaming foul if the screenshots were better than the demo gameplay.
In 2003, i lent Castlevania Symphony of the Night to a neighbor kid whom i knew. The kid was 14, and when i was 16 i loved playing it. I asked him about it a month later, thinking he was probably halfway through it and he gave it back telling me "i only played it once, the graphics sucked." As to how i am not in prison for aggravated battery with a welding torch right now, i do not know, but somehow i did not kill him. I think it was because i had a brain aneurysm when i heard the words "i didn't play it" coupled with "because the graphics sucked."
The new Graphics engine has a proper shadow-casting system. Even if it is technically "lower," those shadows make everything look far better than they do in the current engine.
Seriously, people don't even realize just how important proper shadows are to video games. They help cover up flaws while also making the good stuff "pop" more.
This new graphical approach is nothing short of brilliance. It's why it looks better despite being technically weaker in graphics power.
Seriously so do I, you look at those screens and you can smell the air, our textures right now
may be full of polygons but the color is saturated and not as natural as 2.0 and our current shadows are terrible. I turned them on last night and then remembered why I keep them at low......
Bring on the atmosphere!
If they call that a 'downgrade' then I'm all for a 'downgrade'. Its beautiful. The atmosphere created by the shadows and lighting and less patterned arrangement of the landscape is so much nicer in the 2.0 screenshots than in the current game.
No one ever stated this. They just showed that on the drawn map (which is just a rough representation) certain areas appear repeatedly like they we're maybe using something like, I don't know a graphics application, to create the overhead maps. The whole thing was silly. No one ever complains about that you see the same thing for each family of monsters. Or that all the whm AF looks the same on every person who wear's it. Go take a look at google maps, you'll see this "copy and paste" thing everywhere.
bobbygunz is showing up as gifthorse in deebeeps quote.. what?
