I'd believe that if there wasnt a BETA and a 1.0, where not only did they not listen to us, it blew up in their face.

This is just like the original release all over again. A few months before release and they don't have ANY game play footage that they can show us.
E3 is a big old spectacle, but not nearly as crucial as it was. Dissemination of information is a hundred times faster than back in E3's hayday. They could release the trailer on the backend of never, and it would still be all over the internet within an hour.
You may remember FFXIV was originally announced at E3 (with just a trailer) to ... lukewarm reception. Another said it better, E3 is not the stage for MMOs and, whilst it is strange that they're pulling the trailer (when it's finished and everything), I genuinely don't feel it's the end of the world.
What will happen will happen. There will be some information on FFXIV from E3, that much is certain. How much, we don't know; speculation is fruitless, argument even moreso.
But then again, without all the argument, where would we be?
Remember when people were saying the letter was taking long because they were getting ready for E3?
lol
A burst of media is an absolutely horrid way to handle promotion of anything.
The best way to promote anything is regular media saturation.
Whether they release a Web site after E3 or not, so what? Without new visiuals what more will it be than www.finalfantasyxiv.com with a face lift?
The point of showing a trailer at E3, CGI or otherwise, is that it's a talking point. And something for those interested to revisit.
From there companies need to regularly release nuggets of information interesting enough for journalists to report on.
So instead of "trickling" the information and staying in the public conscience, they're going for a flash-in-the-pan approach when PR will be ramping up for the Fall release schedule.
SE needs to answer the question: Why should I buy your game instead of that other one I was going to?
This late summer/fall will see the release of Dark Souls (PC Edition), Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, New Super Mario Brothers 2, Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, Dead or Alive 5, Resident Evil 6, BioShock Infinite, Assassins Creed III, LittleBig Planet Karting, Halo 4, Sleeping Dogs, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Guild Wars 2.
That's not counting things announced at E3 ([speculation] Grand Theft Auto V and God of War: Ascension release dates[/speculation]) . It may not seem like a lot, but each of those are a $60 commitment that a gamer will have decided upon around the time of E3 when they plunked down their cash for a preorder.
My biggest fear is that August will be too late. By then, potential players will have been hyped by E3 for other games and have their minds made up on what they're spending their money on in the Fall.
The point of E3 is getting face time. It's when you release that trailer that makes people go to that newly released Web site that makes them follow the bread crumb trailer of information that leads them to making a purchase in the Fall/Q1NY.
Releasing a Web site without that initial E3 buzz seems like a head-scratcher for someone who deals with marketing on a regular basis.
A late summer burst will not be enough when going up against the Fall AAA title season.
There a difference from liking the game, and blindly apologizing for everything SE does. Especially when people are frustrated due to a strained relationship between SE and their fans and a track record for saying on thing and doing the opposite.
v2.0 is releasing this Fall. This was their moment to show all those neysayers that the impossible was possible.
For most people (i.e., those not paying a subscription) XIV is that game that got an average 4.5/10 back in 2010. It's not even on their radar.
I think people's worst fear was that it would be just a CGI thing. This is why there's such a reaction to it being reduced to "a Web site after E3."
A flood of info is the worst way to promote something. "Some dinky trailer" isn't the way to do anything either.
What SE needed was a "before and after" trailer.
Ever hear the phrase "slow and steady wins the race"? The public needs to be constantly reminded your product is coming.
Not if you don't start the fire in the first place. In order for anything to "go viral" there has to be something to pass around. A trailer from E3 would have been just that thing.
That's the point of trickling information and visuals. It gets tweeted/liked/shared/emailed yada yada and over time it seems to be all anyone has been talking about.
But if you wait and do it all at once, people will only tweet/like/share/email yada yada once. If your marketing campaign is a flash-in-the-pan style, so too will be the response to it.
People are disappointed because E3 is a moment to do more than that. The trailer -- which absolutely needs to be at E3 and more than behind SE's infamous closed doors -- should be of gameplay. As I said, before and after. Show footage of v1.0 circa 2010 then v2.0 then finish it with the CGI hype junk.
The ultimate point of E3 is to allocate as many preorders as possible. Companies go there to sell games, and releasing a Web site without announcing that to the public after people have stopped caring about the event will be disastrous in the long run.
Are people really trying to justify their lack of stuff at E3? E3 is timed during summer...it is video game companies chance to hype up their game and get people interested in it before fall (when most people buy holiday games and stay inside)
By then not as many people are going to care or go out of their way to care and be that interested in it. Sure it will have people still but not as many as they could have if they did it right and got their crap together for E3.
Not having a trailer is a dumb move..it is like going to Comic Con to show off a new movie and then having no trailer..just some photos and talk about it. No one really cares >.> Marketing is all about the hype (See apple, not apple fan myself but yea)
Maybe Microsoft should do that with the next Halo. Instead of a trailer lets just talk about the game at E3: Umm you get guns, you shoot stuff, you get to go in new zones...yeaaah thrilling. It is fine for companies to do that that don't have much to show and the release is far off..but this release is very close. How disappointing.
Cant believe i had to actually had to log to post this...but it seems no one has touched on this point.
For those stating TGS, Gamescon, etc are the ideal place to release any MMO based info...You are right.
IF SE were not banking on the PS3 community breathing life back into this game. How quickly ppl forget how many XI players were actually on a console...myself included.
Now as far as i have seen (here in the US at least) ...E3 is "IT" most have no clue any other events exist threw the year. No im not talking about ppl that live on the net and read every detail as soon as it drops. Im talking normal everyday gamers.
While it im sure there will be some lvl of presence at E3 ...not pouring resources into it ...Is a failure . This is not a PC only game guys...Wake up.
CG trailer or not SE needed to show this game at E3 in a big way for the console market. Even more so because of the games expected release window. This is when consoles get AAA games one after another. Reality check SE is fucking up again.
the engine is ready, weve been told as much
right now they are pounding away at content, the trailer(which i guess is done now) and transfering over all aspects of the world to the new version in whatever form they will be in
if you think this can be overnight you are sadly mistaken.
they said, that 2.0 will be "announced to the public" at e3, who knows what they will do as far as that goes, they also said a website with info will be going public
so they will be at e3, and this is the perfect time to do just this much.
as far as the mistakes made for the original release, maybe, i dont kow, maybe if you people thought for a second, they are saying they arent ready to release info thats not 100% ready for the public yet. why release info thats not complete, why show people something that can easily be summed up with the changes they have added to the game we have now. showing people the changes for the current version alone would be a huge step forward to the public itself.
e3 is NOT the time to showcase the game for those playing it, its the time to showcase the game to those not playing it, and a trailer is extremely underwhelming in most cases without a fully working playable version on hand. and if its not complete, ive seen some really really bad results come from unfinished products showcasing at e3 to get attention, and it usualy backfires on them cuz they show it too early
give it time, the info is coming, we will get some info at e3, but the main info is going to hit all at once, which will be really nice for a change so people cant nitpick the little things here and there and dwell on it all as its released weeks at a time in small doses, and its all in their face at once
A cg trailer it's the last of problems right now. See it now or later isn't going to change shit, so quit this drama. We'll see/hear something in this e3, just not a cg video.
It's not really being negative...its just the constant disappointment that SE keeps giving its "fans" no one wants to be disappointed..i'm sure everyone here wants to see this game pick up and go places...:/
Also anyone read Sephrick's post? He nailed it. I'll just sit back and watch it all unfold now lol
I guess we will just have to wait for E3 to see what he means by a flood of information instead of a trickle....but man I wanted to see that trailer so bad.
What the hell did I just read for the past 14 pages?
Are people really calling doom and the end of the world over a CGI trailer? I can understand wanting to see it. I'd be thrilled to see it myself. But the fact that it isn't going to happen doesn't mean the game is going to suddenly implode on itself.
There is WAY more to a presence at E3 than a trailer, and unless you're part of the marketing team at SE, then you have ZERO idea of what exactly they are planning. You can rage and lol all you want, but I say shut it until it actually happens.
And really, look at the 1.0 trailer. The hype was great! The trailer was fantastic! Then the game released to be universally panned by nearly everyone.
The trailer isn't going to make or break 2.0. Everything else they could choose to do at E3 might.
I'm disappointed too.... The letter was garbage.. how long have we been waiting on the player's poll to be released ? but Hey! Here is a few questions to dangle the carrot and chocobo wallpapers!!!! for all you people who stood by us! buuuuut we will add nothing to it to make it unique! LOL and no video?? I like to know why the PR dept made this decision. Seems like a bad move to me.
So, the glowing weapons it's "SE disappointing" ? Funny enough,i lurk diablo 3's forum, and no one complain on glowing weapons, wich is by far worst than ifrit's. I mean, hundreds of people here play diablo too, why these same people don't cry on glowing weapons on diablo forum, while here it "kill their immersion" ?
I used this example to poin a fact: people is extremelly selective on what is acceptable and what delusory depending on what is playing, or the brand it wear. Diablo have tons of problems on his own, but no one cry the game is doomed to oblivion like ffxiv.
Get your shit together sometimes, forcing to be disappointed avoid delusions, but that way you don't move forward
I fear that a lot of people had too much expectations on this "trailer". Some time ago was clearly said that it would have shown gameplay/content or whatever from both 1.0 version and 2.0. I'm not sure that just a trailer could determine a market strategy, and I'm confident that only actual players know about this. I don't think that SE has already enough 2.0 contents to show, and maybe this is the reason behind their decision.
What I really hope is that the won't forget to talk about FFXIV at E3...
Ok, can we have a simply DEV answer?
FFXIV 2.0 will be present at e3 ?
"Well, the public release of version 2.0 is set to kickoff with this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. We also plan to unveil a brand new promotion site for version 2.0 soon after E3 ends."
So this means we're going to see something except the previuosly announced CG trailer? ...
2.0 will be or not present at E3? Mods?
So, E3 is going to be just as shitty as it's been the past six years or so? 'kay. It's not like anyone even cares about E3 anymore when it comes to games.
Bit disappointed with this announcement, but we should be seeing a surge of new information come out now. It'd be a bit insane not to. Either that, or more communication with the developers. Not just Yoshida, but everyone working on 2.0 should be releasing a bit of info.
But that's two separate doctors with two different opinions. You're one person with two opinions?
"I like how the color of that house."
*drives by the house again the next day*
"That color is shit!"
You're totally welcome to change your opinion. But you can't have two opposing opinions of the same topic.
How do you plan to unveil a redesign to the public if you have no video? Pictures? Interviews? ....exciting
Off topic: Starlord I love your sig! Roy is my favorite FMA character =D
well, regardless of this E3 stuff...2.0 should be a lot of fun. It might not get as many subs as it could but at least it will hopefully be a great game.
All I see on this thread is a lot of q_q about a trailer... Oh how will life ever go on without it...
French letter is a bit more detailed: there will be information about 2.0 at E3, but they won't be showing the big promo trailer they made.
