Yoshi-P does not own the Final Fantasy franchise, and to be honest just the sheer size of the Mogstation alone tells me the bottom line is a pretty major influence on XIV.

Quite simple for me.
I will not play any crypto or NFT game, as long these are mostly used for fraudulent activitys.
That would include FFxiv.
I just hope that some countrys start doing something about them, they use unnecessary much energy and 99.9% of them are just pure fraud in a trenchcoat.
FF7R and KH3 are Unreal engine games.
Unreal Engine is 5% base royalty if you sell outside of Epic Store, whereas it's already included in the 12% Epic store cut, and they probably got a sweeter deal from Epic by going exclusive. That's a lot of revenue for a AAA game vs Steam.
Your personal feelings don't matter, making money matters, and it's selling hot.

There's not much else that needs to be said about this. The vast, vast majority of crypto activity is intended to scam people, and integrating it into a video game like ffxiv would be, at very best, a wow token-esque proxy RMT situation. The day they infect FFXIV with with it is the day I quit.
On the flipside, including NFTs in FFXIV would get the game kicked off Steam. SE has bottom-line motivation to not include them.
But careful reading of the SE president's letter suggests they're looking into using them for new games. Though that doesn't give me any more respect for the decision, it does at least suggest it's not coming to FF14 or other existing games. I wouldn't be surprised if they're targeting mobile, even, considering Samsung already keeps trying to get me to turn on crypto mining through their official software.
we are digressing at this point, but just a food for your thought... EGS barely have 200-250 million account, most of them is fortnite by the way. when steam is pass the 1.000 million... 5% is nothing compared to the market lost by exclusivity... by the way, if that was selling this much, they will not plan to sell it on steam too... from the get go it's short terms gain... by selling on both shop from the get go they will have touched more people. the reason behind exclusivity is because egs give cash that all not a story of cut on ue or this mythical 12%
Can you really expect a company to leave profits on the table? To me this just seems like a new form of micro transactions we lost that battle and now blockchain/nft are the new battlefield. I for one am interested in seeing what they do, as everyone knows when it comes to investing you only put in what you are comfortable with losing, I am not sure why people call it a scam common sense is all you need to protect yourself. I for one am interested in seeing what they do with it.
Microtransactions were already scummy and i never liked them.
Now NFT's are a brand new WeF Stakeholder scam pushed by them on the whole industry just so you spend your money in useless drenches, but the goal is a "reaction". Of course.
Imagine if you will, squenix already making a killing this year and feeling like adding a new layer of grindfest in all of their games, playing 600 hours to unlock a skin or just the ability to display high res textures, because the nft is tied to a specific copyrighted function in your future games, or your glams. But you can also play 5 000 hours if you don't want to pay the nft pack allowing you direct access to these new raids !
Just artificially cutting your "experience" in more parcels and selling it to you, you should be very skeptical of the move, yes, but it's also "in your face" / a very, very gross and vulgar parting of their usual ways, so much so, it's not "natural".
Now with some discernment between these lines :
This attempt from the WeF is just a "purposefull" exposure of "evil" in every sector, The goal is just the same as the rest of the world policies that we have saw these past 3 years, uprising / rebellion from every corner / side and spectrums that leads to a "solution" out of the "chaos" they are newly introducing themselves by, unfortunately, preying on the greed of these Ceo idiots playing along. They stand to profit from the regulation and the overall negative reaction of the general public.
This is just blatant / unnatural corporate greed introduced all of a sudden these past few months, in every sector of this "industry", so coordinated you better be thinking about it.
The equation is simple :
Introducing a problem with a system you didn't ask and vote for, to introduce an even more outrageous regulation and over the top control (over you, in the end, not these companies and not on these "practices".) you absolutely didn't ask for neither, but making you kind of, ask for it, from the "reaction" it creates.
I'm also incredibly disappointed that SE would give in that scenario. I thought of them better and to be more Professional than to cave in this.
At least they were not forcing you to adhere to a doll economy, you would buy it if you were that huge of a nerd and liked it, nft's are a whole new layer of scam that will, just like crysta's or mtx in general, finally force you into the paradigm / currency / tokenomics. You still have the choice to not buy merch surrounding a game, nft's will not give you a choice if the concept is "really" taken and brought to it's conclusion.
Crypo is a serious top topic, but the reality of the situation is a lot of the people threatening to leave the game over it is just buzz news. We've been over this same song and dance every time people threaten to quit this game over anything SE has chosen to do with the game. Many will leave. For a patch or two. Until they realize that there aren't many better MMO options out there and that all their friends are still playing FFXIV. Let's face it, SE is being scummy about this and they know they're able to get away with it regardless of the backlash.
Google "The Great Beanie Baby Bubble" for insight on why many people are accurately calling this a scam. NFTs are literally just a repeat of that whole nonsense - except this time you only own a link to an image. At least with Beanie Babies you owned a physical object. Likewise it's pretty clearly just a new generation of money laundering for the rich, to say nothing of it's environmental impact. The second serious regulation is put in place (like the IRS ruling at any Crypto transaction over 10k needs to be reported) the bubble is going to burst and it's not people like SE's CEO who are going to be left holding the bag but the rest of us.
Because its not a new micro transaction. You wouldn't actually purchase anything with NFTs that would be owned by a company like SE, you would be purchasing a license that would grant you access to whatever the NFT is tied to for that value, which would determine the price of the thing you actually want to buy.
An example would be buying something from the mog shop for 15$. That is a hard value item allotment that can only change at the discretion of the mog shop.
What an NFT would do is determine the price of the item based on the value of the NFT. If the NFT isn't worth anything that 15$ item could range from 15$ up to lets say 30$, because the value of the NFT is low. So in order for the price of the NFT to increase you have to invest more by buying more NFTs in order for the price to come down, but that devalues that cost of the NFT so the mog station would then buy back the value of the NFT at a lower cost to increase scarcity and drive the value of the NFT back up, which is what you would do by having to spend the NFT that you bought at a higher price. So you end up paying more to support the NFTs value, while the value of the NFT is controlled by SE, who buy it back for less than what you spent/invested.
So when it comes to video games you have to remember you don't own any of the digital product sitting on your hard drive, and even if you buy hard copies all you did was spend money on whatever packaging it came in. The digital rights management of video games, in this instance FFXIV, is an applied access license that you have to purchase a license to use.
There are already games in the "Metaverse" that use NFTs and a majority of them have a negative return of higher than the initial value invested, and for some its up to 250%. NFTs are just another way for companies to artificially gate the "content" they produce with another paywall and license structure so that you have to give them more money.
My favorite analogy is the "name a star" registries that are meaningless.
But it gets better. Some of the NFT games have already removed the blockchain element. Making them even more alike to those registries. They really are worthless crap exploiting FOMO with artificial scarcity.
I mean it's still something physical people will have and can enjoy for the rest of their life, they buy it once and then own it. The intention behind dolls and figures and whatever is to collect it. It has personal subjective value.
NFT is sold with the promise of making big money out of it, you don't buy into it cause you like stupid ape pics or something. There is no personal objective value behind owning a NFT. You don't look at it and say, yes this ape i am proud of owning. Same as you don't look at stockmarket shares and think to yourself that this has great artistic value. No you want to have that shit to sell it later for more than you got it for. But fact is the only safe money someone makes out of NFTs is the creator, everyone after this just plays the game of "The last one who holds the ape loses all his money!".
So idk where you graduated but you might want to exercise you brain again cause if it lets you compare physical art to a gambling system then you might wanna check up with your neurons again. Cause next they might let you drink bleach or let you buy into MLMs. And that might be something we both don't really want.
"Play to contribute". There you go. Take an adored and beloved hobby and turn it into whatever your questionable ethics turn it into.
Being a gamer is so tiring right now. You have this corporate influence everywhere, it just is sickening and exhausting.
I'm fairly certain you neither work in cyber security, nor understand enough about crypto if you are standing by NFTs. Here's a few facts for you to chew over.
1. Your 'investment' is backed by literally nothing. What's encrypted is a key or token (or weblink) that links you to your digital item. It has no intrinsic value beyond what someone else will pay for it.
2. Your 'investment' can be immediately destroyed upon purchase, either by the game company if the servers shut down or by malicious intent on the seller who changes what that token points to.
3. Since you don't actually own the item, neither do you have any rights to it. Whether that's an in-game hat, a piece of artwork, you literally do not own the copyright to it unless it was specifically included.
4. Since you don't have any rights to it, neither do you have any grounds to pursue legal action against the seller. They sold you the link. Nothing more.
For someone who apparently works in cyber security, these should all be giant red flags. If none of your alarm bells are ringing at this point, then you should probably find employment which is better suited to your strengths.
You're comparing an actual figurine which will likely adorn someone's room and is a genuinely limited commodity that not everyone will own, to an NFT which links to digital art which can easily be copied and distributed freely? Yes, this is where we're drawing the line.
NFT's are seriously the most braindead thing ever, the only thing it makes sense to me as is for laundering money.
With that said I don't like SE outside of FFXIV, I love FFXIV and the team behind it that's it.
I have zero loyalty to SE as a company and I think that most of the games they put out outside of FF is complete garbage and just the most stereotypical and boring AAA Western big title game and they're greedy as hell ( I rly hate the Tomb Raider reboot too, it's not Tomb Raider and she's not Lara Croft... ).
I don't believe this will affect FFXIV altho I've seen some stuff I think is bs like the Pizza emote and all that.
I think that's bs and wrong, it's also really forced and cringe especially with how on the nose the emote is if you know the context behind it.
But it's also locking content for players outside of that country/ region for the sake of greed.
Either way NFT's are going to blow over I think, most people think they're the most braindead thing ever they exist for stupid people with too much money and for rich people/ criminals to laundry money.
Most normal people look at them as a stupid meme.
>Chip and server shortages
>Can't sell the game anymore sorry lol
>New free accounts / free trial suspended, sorry, can't have you non payers in the g8me, lol
>Somehow, just burn our shit to the ground, melt our servers please ! Play , Play , Play even moar and congest servers morning to night to earn nft and contribute, all will be so good, promise !
Absolute 2022 logic.
TR is still done by the same team(Crystal Dynamics), though the last game was done by another branch along with them. I guess this is the reason CD went all out with Tomb Raider Underworld before being absorbed by SE. Big shifts in IP style always occur when a development team is absorbed by a major AAA company.
>Cannot home transfer because servers are fake congested and the thought that 700000000 people gonna transfer to new DC lolololololololololol
I've seen, the fall the rise the stagnation the fall, the rise, the soar of 14. But, through it all. Seeing SE's CEO make such a public statement. I cannot anymore. No matter how passionate, or strong emotional ties to the game, I cannot stand by and support a game and company that has to go in such a direction with NFTs and trying to cash in on the meta false hype.

This is my response. My wallet will be closed to SE and sadly, 14 as a result.
NFTs are dumb, but alot of this thread is overreaction.
I have nothing particularly insightful to add but I seriously hope that they reconsider this idea and that it never comes anywhere near to FFXIV, or indeed FF in general. Even playing along with this strange idea of rewarding "people who contribute", I do not think crypto or NFTs are an appropriate way to go about this. There are many, many other more appealing and less harmful ways to reward fans.
By micro transactions I simply mean another way for a company to get more money from a consumer. That is all NFT's are just a means for a company to get more money from players, it is a personal choice one has to make if they wish to engage in such a practice. NFT's it is just another means produce profits for a company so where exactly is the problem with that? If it nets profits why fault a company for following a trend that produces money for next to nothing? In the end the value is based around what someone is willing to pay for it. SE is smart to leverage their IP into the NFT market space, many people will buy into not understanding what they are doing and that is not the fault of SE, but the person that is doing something they know nothing about.
Sure it used for money laundering, but NFT's has been profitable for many as has crypto. That is the case with any bubble if you do not cash out at the right time you are left with your d##k out. Sure for many it is fueled by a general FOMO by many on lookers, but crypto and NFT's are not meant to ones sole investment, nor should one get into NFT's for the sake of collecting, you should treat it more like day trading those holding are the suckers and will be left hanging in the wind and that is on them.
In short calling it a scam or getting upset with SE to play on the ignorance of their fan base is laughable. They are not our friends, we are just $ to them that is all.
Gotta love the '' this year was named the Metaverse year ''.
What?
By who lol???
Pretty sure that to most people this was the Covid year.
The Metaverse isn't even on the list of the things people so much as gave a single thought to this year.
It's just big companies trying to artificially make you believe it's bigger than it actually is.
Yeah because I want to own a certificate for something I can’t interact with or change.
Imagine “turn in 100 nfts to unlock x content”, no thanks.
I think it would be crazy to introduce this into 14, but if they did, hopefully people would vote with their wallet. :)
Asmongold is also not very amused. :)

Not going to lie the environment talk is funny. Our planet is already doomed, may as well enjoy it while we can.
I joined FFXIV since ARR and supported FF14 . I haven’t bought a single standalone FF game since FF8.I believe one the worst thing happened to FF brands was ENIX buying the Square, however I have been playing FF because I like FF. I Hate square Enix as company , but I still give them my money because they have the IP of FF.
HOWEVER, if this NFT thing goes through I am done with with FF brand ,I have moral obligation to not stand by see people get scammed. CEO is stupid is getting too greedy and they will shoot themselves on the foot.
SE seems to be as EVIL as EA but since it is Japanese company it is getting a pass?
I'm not sure if it's my age, or the fact I am not business or tech savvy but I don't understand most of what is being said in that letter. What I do understand is this quote..
This really shows a lack of regard for a majority of their customers. I do Understand they(SE) are a business and we are a source of income but would it hurt to not make it so obvious?Quote:
I realize that some people who “play to have fun” and who currently form the majority of players have voiced their reservations toward these new trends, and understandably so. However, I believe that there will be a certain number of people whose motivation is to “play to contribute,” by which I mean to help make the game more exciting. Traditional gaming has offered no explicit incentive to this latter group of people, who were motivated strictly by such inconsistent personal feelings as goodwill and volunteer spirit. This fact is not unrelated to the limitations of existing UGC (user-generated content). UGC has been brought into being solely because of individuals’ desire for self-expression and not because any explicit incentive existed to reward them for their creative efforts. I see this as one reason that there haven’t been as many major game-changing content that were user generated as one would expect.
Can someone who understands NFT/blockchain explain with examples in an objective manner how IF this were to come to FFXIV what form it would take?
If my house was on fire to the point where we had no hope of putting the fire out, yeah you are damn right I would throw some fire works into the mess, maybe even have a cook out. The reality the problems that are impacting us are not something we the younger generation can fix. Those in power do not wish or have any desire to change. My school did walk outs and crap, ya we got paper straws. We have no real power, and by the time we do have power it will be far too late. On an induvial level we can do everything in our power but the reality is our little cries and reducing our own footprint is nice and all but we are screwed this planet is not the future, it will be our past.
Sad truth is my lifetime foot print will be lower then most cause my parents raised me as a vegan, I have never consumed any animal based product and probably never will due to not having a taste for them.
Hopefully people are making enough of a fuss about this that they'll just do a 180.
Just imagine building this much of goodwill then doing this... SE, you had one of your most fantastic financial year... Just stop the greed, you know how it ends, either you are going to break your uptime, or get a raid wipe.
Facebook, or now "meta" is one of the most exploitive companies of people and their information that there is. The CEO is sorely out of touch if he is using Facebook as a company to look to as paving the way of the future. Facebook is a horrible company and Square Enix following in their footsteps is a huge red flag. Somebody wake that man up.
are you for real? how old are you? FF14 is not some small game. its was one of the big 5 for years and now its number 1 mmo. they got the cash to do what ever the game need they just don't wan to. more cahs wont make them as well. but this will make people leave the game. most people dont want to play a pyramid scheme. if some want they can build a new game base don it. or just do crypto scams.
