Why is everyone so silent in the game?

I don't talk much beyond "hello" "have a good day/night" because the few times I do I end up getting people ranting at me for "spoilers" explaining a few mechanics to new people. Not even all the mechanics, just things that will kill you. Alternatively I had one case where I explained a few of the faster mechanics for the final story trial you'd not have the time to type anything out for, and said I'd call out the rest. Which I did. Had my cohealer at the time rant at me about not calling anything out like I said I would, which again I did, and for having crap DPS and heals despite the fact that they spent a good 75% of the fight not even attempting to avoid anything and dying for it.
So if my only options are to not talk at all or talk so much it kills me, I'll just not talk.

Gotta be a data center thing. We never shut up on Crystal.

Hyperion is rather quiet

There are days I don’t feel like talking but I do enjoy getting to know people in the game. :)

I play on Light and for the last months, half year the chat is so dead most of the time in content. Not even a single hello/goodbye or emotes! Sometimes I just get so sad when people just wont say anything i leave the dungeon again. I always loved the social aspect alot in this game but more often than not theres nothing social going on anymore.

I’ll always say hi/bye at the start and end of runs, will explain things and try to be helpful if folks ask or even chat if others instigate. However, I will admit that I frequently don’t instigate…

It’s mostly because I work in tech, average 10-12hr work days, and deal with people a Lot throughout my day. By the time I get to the end of my day, I’m already pretty chatted-out, lol

Hate quite and this is a pretty huge reason why, most FC, instances and even statics are just a void of silence. Saw a dude criticize AST in said FC and was silently kicked due to…what I can only assume was disturbing the peace?

To be clear, the quoted 'new rules' are not new. They've been part of the Terms of Service for years. What's new in the linked article are the examples of behaviors that might be against the ToS.

The word 'disagree' does not appear in the ToS. And yes, if you are offended to the point that you want to have 'words' with someone, you are probably better off reporting the behavior than responding to it.

This is more likely due to a change in the MMO populations (ah, to be 17 years younger at this point) and the novelty of voice chat at the time. Not everyone had a DSL line for Internet access.

For those reminiscing about the Wonders of Old School MMOs back in the day: the only way to get information about anything was to talk with someone who'd "been there, done that". The information simply did not exist on the Internet. The gaming systems were also a bit more primitive: the Wonders of Commerce weren't as sophisticated.

By the time of Wrath of the Lich King, for example, Commerce had already devolved into an Auction House, complete with add-ons that trivialized the need for a Trade Chat channel that was utilized by bored players typing just to be typing (somewhat similar to shout chat in any major city on an RPG server in this game).

Most of the conversations in shout and/or general chat on any MMO* over the last 15 years has been "Klytus, I'm bored. What plaything can you offer me today?"

*Rift, EQ2, WoW, Wildstar, SW:TOR, FFXI, FFXIV, GW2, TESO ... the list goes on and on. And it was the same 35 years ago when the BBS and 1200-baud modems was still King.

If you are antisocial I guess. I can deal with nonsense and weirdness. Some are just thin skinned I guess.

Personally, I say hello and goodbye in DF parties, maybe comment on cool glams or get involved in a conversation if someone else starts one.

But I am generally quiet in instances. For one thing, I'm a pretty slow typer so I have to pause for a bit to say stuff which doesn't always work out so well mid combat.

My cousin plays on console and tells me (on discord) that he'd love to be able to communicate more but it's just a pain with a controller.

Just gotta find the right places or communities. I'm in some pretty active linkshells and my FC is a group of friends so... there's pretty much always someone talking somewhere.

Because there are multiple other ways to communicate, FC, Linkshells being a big one, party, tell, discord. So glad there's no barrens chat in this game. Lots of people just want to get through their roulette for the tombstones and then party with their friends and FC. Might want to try to go to a dance party on the weekends for open chatting.

Cheap USB keyboard is how I, and most other console players, do it. Plug it in, and there we go. Easily able to communicate with people when I feel like it/need to.

It's very annoying to talk with a PS controller. Most people do not have a usb keyboard for their playstation.
