I didn't bother resubbing last month, partly because this hairstyle is MIA. I wonder if they are planning something with it. I see no real reason to withhold it in recent years. Not even available for purchase.
You guys are getting hairstyles?
You’re killin’ me Square. No shade but we got the Korean school outfits before this? Seriously?
I always cross my fingers when the mogstation updates..... one of these times it'll be there when it comes back up.
Yeah, for real. At this point I understand the holdup even less. What the hell’s the issue and why is it not possible to be transparent about something like this? How can an item remain exclusive for all but less than a month, but something that should’ve been available years ago is still missing? :l
I have a suspicion the delay is due to there being no hair category for the store requiring a small design change to the page which may not be a high priority right now with the covid delays down the entire development pipeline and Square's new work from home system.
THere's been hints of new hairstyles coming out quite soon, so I'm guessing it will be released at the same time.
Well, I guess their answer was just for calming the angry crowd (which did the trick it seems). Since it's been more than 2 month without any statement about it, I guess we can safely assume that they didn't care after all. *shrug*
Too bad, was really happy to glimpse a possible ending to this mythical never coming hairstyle story.
Same...I was wondering why there wasn't a follow-up to what was said for the longest. I felt like if they weren't going to be persistent with it, they would let it fall to the wayside, and that seems to be more or less the case. All excuses for why it isn't present aside; it should have been around by now, or we should've gotten news for why it's not. It sucks that this is getting brushed over, while those still interested won't receive, and the less of interest will just look forward to the next thing.
These post seems childish and deliberately obtuse.
"It's been 2 months, guess they tricked us :/" ... maybe play the game and chill, they don't need to keep people up to date about every development after saying they will do something. This statement from them is more than I expected tbh
See, when I was typing my comment, I was going to mention the people who comment on these threads like you. Coming here and saying the whole "let them do as they please, or so help me!" thing is fine to do sometimes, per say, but when there's been a 1-4 year wait for something that should've already came back around, or been denounced by now, you actually aren't backing them up, or helping the people who have been giving them the time and patience you swear they need and/or desire.
If commenting on a lack of information/assurance we've been given after, (should I mention again) 1-4 years of waiting, and a message from them saying "maybe, possibly coming, who knows", is childish and obtuse, it's best for you to say the basis of the thread, and the thread in itself, is the same level of childish and obtuse, if not worse.
Or so help me?
I never threatened to do anything, I just said your post seems childish and deliberately obtuse. They don't have to work on your time-table nor give you updates on the progress of getting this done. Got a problem with me saying that then oh well ... have fun.
Edit-I can tell where this is going, I'm done with ya.
Ain't nothing wrong with stating the obvious, but when we can also see it's about something you obviously aren't as interested in, you probably haven't waited as long for, have nowhere near the same level of want for, or time spent wanting, etc. to a set of individuals that have those listed properties, while you do not; your intrusions on the subject that you chose to speak on have little to none in value.
Especially when coming here, the ffxiv forums, the only place where you tell them your complaints, things to touch up on, and envisionments, the same thread they chose to respond in about the hair before, and you decide to pretty much say "You're like kids cause this talk doesn't matter on their time have fun har har".
You would've done better by just saying that and leaving, so we could know what you're on about quicker, rather than dragging out conversation on something like that anyway.
i guess square enix don't want our money ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah it's not like people asked for informations about this for the last 3 years without any statement about it. You know, and maybe that will be a surprise for you, but transparency is a thing. Their answer 2 month ago was like '' yeah, maybe, we will see ''. For something people are desperate to get for the past 3 years, it's underwhelming to say the least. No follow up since then, so yeah it is frustrating.
But yeah, I'm probably childish to ask for a bit of transparency about something that should have been in the game already and which will, probably, end up in the game cash shop. *shrug*
On one hand the nature of mmo's makes me love how I have something that atm others can't get, on the other however I also know that feeling of missing out on something cause you played after it happened (legacy intro/tattoo T_T)
I'd say though if they did ever put it up on mogstation hopefully they'd make it work for hrothergar and viera... even tho it'd look really shitty on cat daddies lol.
I didn’t forget, lool.
Seriously though. This is ridiculous. What’s the damn deal with what should be a pretty simple thing? Something that should’ve been taken care of years ago?
I've never been a fan of timed baubles or trinkets. It's just a sort of an insidious way to keep people forever-subbed so they never miss a single item. I don't mind so much for things like live events (like... with GMs and stuff, things we don't get at all) because that's live and organic content that you can't simply replicate. But random things like hairstyles? Just makes the whole thing seem kinda grimy. Make people feel special for witnessing really cool stuff that only happens once, or maybe a few times, not because they logged in and put in almost no effort to get yet another earring.
Yeah, me neither. But the cloak behind why it has never been out since so many time is intriguing. And frustrating for those who want to get it and let's face it, there are many people that asked for it / why it's not coming out / why we had 0 information about it.
I am ok for exclusive rewards that people worked hard to get (like The Feast etc) but seasonal hairstyle ? Come on.
I really don't understand the thing about the Hairstyle from Square, they brought it 2 Years and then it disappears for 2-3years now? sadly right when I started playing there was the rainmaker event where the hairstyle was patched out and before that, I have seen the hairstyle and asked a player about it and he was like yeah with the next event you can buy it. Good thing I still know the person bad thing the hairstyle ist not patched, mostly think the just want to add now a hairstyle section in the mog store or something like that
I don't know, I don't think there is a section in mog station for those things as far as I remember. But if not, maybe that's why it takes time. I think they are coding it and maybe waiting for more hairstyle to put in before they add rainmaker. This is the only thing I can imagine why it's not out yet.
I don't mind timed exclusives, even if they're very long periods (1-2 years) or hurdles added, but in general I think actual scarcity based exclusives is just "meh".... lol. If an item is either delivered at equal or greater challenge or at a lesser challenge and time delay then I think all is well. No exclusives ever, would not bother me.
Say for example if SE wanted to open the gates a crack on PvP feast mounts they might do something like 1 to 2 years after the mount has been released (season concluded) then the schematic for the mount is added to Cid's workshop. To build the mount it'll take an incredible amount of wolf marks and other items. Time gated and still a bit challenging to acquire but not exclusive if you REAAALLLY wanted that item (especially important I think for these sorts of tier systems since it is known that it is one of those feast or famine systems, meaning when you started on the content is paramount to ease of access- making it either relatively straight forward challenge or very difficult challenge, on top of some people trying to game the system through bots). Another idea I've hoped for a while is that they upgrade their Veteran System, such perhaps occasionally you get some tokens or an item that can be used into making the purchase possible (so you might have to dedicate a large amount of marks and a item that only comes on interval making the choice to obtain that item more impactful). Originally was thinking the veteran system might get you kupo nuts (for the mog shop), in a small quantity but obviously something you could stack up over time allowing you to make a very rare big purchase or fairly frequently subsidize the cost of stuff (obviously the system being based on your subscription cycle, so a free player wouldn't be earning nuts).
Technically the cash shop is one means to ensure players can get them too, but micro transactions coming out of every which corner possible also feels bad. So I'm not eager to see or suggest everything that presents a weird challenge to be simply added to the cash shop instead like a lazy and yet lucrative fall back lol. Although I think you could lessen that negative feeling with either something akin to above (veteran system / kupo nuts with subscription) or alternatively with an active communication with your community that included a sort of "early access" vibe you get from some games, like if you look at some of how Larian Studio functions (people working on Baldur's Gate 3 and the Divinity stuff), if you gave people a strong sense of cash to feature translation it might be not as bad (like how you might see the 'good' early access companies interact with and make direct acknowledgement / incorporate said feedback, gives people a sense to their early access). While SE is not the worst at communication (some companies never talk to their community lol) they're certainly not the best (and some of that makes sense given the whole language barrier, and that talking to your community can be extremely stressful).
Titles I feel are the easiest to lock forever if they really wanted to do stuff with that, it's the most smallest glamour function of the game (imo) lol.
I think it is important to communicate clearly and as much as possible do what was said though, so if you say something will be exclusive then you should do that or prepare an apology / reason why you chose to change. Anyway... exclusive exclusive always feels silly to me, and generally a great way to push people off if they join in too late and you had something absolutely amazing under that system, but I also don't think you should rush to making something someone put a decent amount of effort in turn into something that takes no effort and gives them feelings of "why did I bother?".
On the topic of hair, if it's added back for free in game, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work on our two new races. If it's added to the cash shop though I sincerely hope they put the time into making sure it works for everyone. Just sounds awful to have that situation (in the cash shop) as you could have made a bunch of purchases, switch race through a purchase, and then suddenly have a bunch of useless items because they don't work on your new race lol. That's a big oof.
Was it ever advertised as being a timed exclusive at the time, though? Either way, SE supposedly said they intend on adding it back in, in some form. Mogstation, if I remember right? I missed out on it for RL reasons, I actually couldn't even play the game at the time. I never had a chance to get it! It's frustrating that we can't get it, not even in the cash shop (yet)!
Ignore that I am viera currently, if I was a viera at the time they would release that hair, I'd switch back to my au ra to use it. Wish viera could just use these kinds of hairs, but that's for another thread..
If addressing me, I just want to add I was speaking in general to the idea of things being exclusive. In a whole general sense I don't think exclusives (in the sense that they have a scarcity) are that great and would be happy they don't exist at all. Mentioning timed exclusives (which isn't scarcity based) would be fine. Similar thoughts from me on why I give no commendations to the scarcity housing based system lol. I do not care for the concept, it makes no value to me that I have something you can never have and if anything it just makes me feel pity. Alternative direction has similar negative feelings (if there is something you can't have because you literally can't get it).
I don't recall them ever saying it was a timed exclusives to answer the question- just wanted to clarify some of my post was on the concept as a general concept rather than specific to just this hair.
another mogstation update without rainmaker hairstyle
yoshi pls
Indeed. I keep tracking those updates but I'm more and more disappointed each time.
*sigh*
Watch them put the Rainmaker hairstyle back in circulation... as a rare drop from lockboxes in the next stage of Bozja or something.
(Though honestly, there are worse ways they could handle it.)
Literally signed up for the forums just to say that I want the Rainmaker hair, Square please make it happen.
I find it laughable that the FFXIV userbase says certain things should stay limited "to keep their exclusivity" and yet a thread like this exists.
I hardly even buy from the mogstation, but I'd buy a fantasia to go back to catgirl for the rainmaker hair. SE take my money.
It's almost like there's varied and differing opinions for the large number of players.
I enjoy exclusivity in things, but others may not and that's okay! They can express their wishes too.
The "userbase" isn't and hasn't ever been all in the same mindset of things.
The rain maker hair just looks awful. Pit it with the wife-beater glamour top & 90's tribal tattoos
Just know that the hairstyle won't be available to Viera or Hrothgar
We could just ask for better, updated hairstyles but NOOOoooo
