If You're Having DirectX 11 Crash Issues, REPLY TO THIS!

I've had these on and off since Stormblood dropped to be honest. Sometimes it feels like they taper off for a few days, a week, even a month, then Nvidia or the game or Windows updates and it'll pick back up again. It always generates strange things in my event viewer like: The description for Event ID 13 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found, etc and has been near impossible to fix. I was concerned enough six months ago I took the whole rig in to my local tech and let him keep it for three days. He tested my GPU and everything he could think of but, proving how inconsistent the error is, he ran the game for two full days and didn't have one. I brought it home and set it up to a new monitor etc just in case it was something with my peripherals and got the errors in two hours. As of now I'm averaging one every other day at random but its highly disconcerting to feel like you can't relax playing because at any moment the game is just going to lock up and crash. Don't get me started about some of the longer single duties I've had to redo multiple times because the errors started coming in fits and starts.

My friend and I have tried multiple things from the obvious, like redoing all my drivers from scratch, to the obscure like altering settings in internet explorer that supposedly caused other people issues. The only thing I've come to learn from this is that it is somehow specifically linked to FFXIV and apparently I'm not alone.

Been playing PSO2 and aside from the awful lag in the main lobby in the game, I have had no issues. No random CTD, DX11 errors, .exe errors or any crashes what so ever!!!

So reinstalling OS will not matter. I have 2 computers. One rebuilt from scratch and get crashes with new CPU and motherboard. Other I upgraded to latest Windows 10 2004 build and still crashes. Only thing if the FFXIV Info tool below reports DirectX 12, not 11. Both were crashing before and started crashing I would say about 2 weeks ago or so only. For sure a game or driver issue as both started same time. Have not tried rolling back video driver and don't want to.

No resource issue with 32GB Ram, CPU or Disk. Only thing that is common across both machines is the latest NVDIA Drivers are used. Same graphics card on both.

Yeah it's getting ridiculous when you got people who have 2 computers and they are both crashing, when the two different computers have different types of OS installs, have had multiple reinstalls, and everything.

And it's not the GPU cards either, because there's a full range of GPU cards that are getting the crashes too.

At some point, SE is going to have to realize the problem isn't us. It's on their end.

I've been having this problem for weeks now. I have tried just about everything, re-installed drivers, game, settings, everything. Can't play for 10 minutes without it crashing. This is the only game on my PC that crashes.

not re-subbing to this game til this is fixed.

I am trying to log onto Masamune after playing on Moogle only to have the game crash at the character screen.

Ive updated, drivers, tried borderless window nothing works. Error started after update of ToCs on the 26 May. As my character on Masamune is my main, not being able to log on to this server has made the game unplayable for me. Please help.

Have you tried capping the frame rate using Riva Tuner Statistics Server? If you haven't, you should. Its super easy. Download it from here: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details...-download.html
Open up the program, click the green "Add" button in the lower left corner. Find "ffxiv.exe" and "ffxiv_dx11.exe" in you game install folder and add them to the list with the global setting. Don't mess with the global one at all unless you know what you are doing. Then on the right hand side, type 90 in the 'framerate limit" field press enter. Do that for both listings you make. Don't touch anything else. In game make sure your refresh rate is set to 1/1.

That fixed the crashes for me. Not a single one since. However this framerate limiter interacts with direct X seems to resolve whatever issue is happening in the engine. If it works, don't forget to have the program start with windows, and disable the fps counter overlay if you don't want it on.

I gave your suggestion a try, I still got the directx error sadly.

I dont exactly get a direct X error, but my game freezes, music still plays, and if i click the game twice, it becomes white, then click again for it to quit on me.

It's what I said before, no matter your hardware, it will crash because of the game. SE need to fix this.

I have 2 pc's, one I have crashes and then I bought a new one with no crashes. Plus, the new one it's way lower in hardware than yours and I can play all day.

I've been getting occasional dx11 crashes since ShB dropped, but suddenly I can barely be in the game for 10min without it crashing with some sort of DX11 issue.

In the past few days I've started getting DX11 errors each time my game starts up for the first time in a little while. Doesn't matter if I played that day or not, if it's been a few hours since the game is open it'll error on startup and then let me get in fine on the 2nd go. The weirdest part is that my game will still play the opening movie and only close out if I click OK on the error.

Moved my PC to another space and the only change is that I don't currently have the old TV I was using as a second monitor hooked up to my PC. Was playing the game perfectly fine earlier that same day but once I got everything set-up again the game would crash on launch if I had it on DX11 mode. Even though it was my secondary monitor windows considered it my primary monitor in its settings, so I'm suspicious that this change might have something to do with the cause. I tried a couple of the other fixes I saw online and here on the forums including switching to DX9 mode and messing around with my display settings, doing a full reinstall of the game and rolling back video drivers but nothing has worked so far. Game runs mostly fine in DX9 mode but I also get random crashes and glitches (like the floor not properly loading in a Shadowbringers ex trial and having to look below the arena to see AoE markers) so I want to get the whole DX11 thing figured out sooner than later. Gonna be able to get my TV setup again soon so I'll update here if that fixes it, but any ideas I can try in the meantime that don't involve reinstalling the game again would be appreciated. I'll still be browsing around and trying stuff on my too. :)

For those who are curious about hardware specs my CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600 and my GPU is an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super. I'm also running Windows 10. My main monitor is some generic 60hz 1080p monitor from AOC and the TV I was using was an old LG flatscreen. Don't remember the specs on the TV exactly aside from it probably being 30hz refresh rate, and the native resolution was a weird number a little lower than 1920x1080, but still way above 1600x900
Here's how the crash looks too, the fact that it looks like it's trying to start the game in a small window despite it being set to borderless windowed is another reason I'm thinking this might be related to my displays somehow (like maybe it's trying to open the game on a monitor that doesn't exist anymore and that's causing some problem with how DirectX handles things, although this might not be the case since it still happened after I tried a couple more times after setting the game to windowed and fullscreen).

Yeah im having the exact same error happen with directx11, I cant seem to narrow down what the problem is because I have tried all of the same solutions. Only thing I can say for sure is that it started after starting the msquestline for stormblood 4.2. Once the crashing started it got worse over the course of a couple days, now I cant even log into the game because it gives me an error log.

I thought by now they would have removed that stupid anticheat thing they put in that causes these crashes. A rep said "As a part of our countermeasures against cheating, we’ve made it so that the error appears and the game will be unable to run when there are applications or processes, etc. that interfere with memory. There are a variety of applications in Windows, and it is difficult to suggest a specific method of solving the issue."
I bought ffxiv through steam and I need steam to be running for the game to work. People are still running mods and stuff, this thing only seems to cause grief to normal players. I genuinely don't know what to do anymore. I'm crashing all over the place. In raids, dungeons, out in the open world, farming, pvp. It's just too frustrating and killing my desire to play this game.

I had the same issue after upgrading my GPU and added 2 RAM sticks today. Found I had a bad RAM stick and once that was pulled I can actually log in without crashing. However my crash count has been 1 within an hour. I'll update the count aswell as more happen. It's the ffxiv_dx11 errors that seem to be common.

The odd part is that, so far, I only have gotten this error when entering Byakko EX, I did 10 runs couple weeks ago and suddenly I started getting this error. Nothing solved my problem so far

I've been having this error for almost a month now. Fresh install of game, updated drivers, new graphics card, fresh Windows install. Doesn't matter. Sometimes I can play all day just fine and sometimes I crash before I finish loading in. I just want to play with my friends.

Yep, I'm having it too. I have changed absolutely nothing about my computer other than allowing normal Windows updates when I am supposed to update my computer and now I am unable to load into the game anymore on my computer. I get to the log in screen go to log into the world and that's when I crash. I pretty much get the same error as Ahsardre who posted a few posts above mine. I will later edit this with my crash when I try again tomorrow, I got too frustrated trying to load in over 5 to 10 times already.

Since last week, I'm now also in the "Club of Crashes".

Last week, I have replaced my existing graphic card (Nvidia GTX970 TI) with a new graphic card (Nvidia GTX2070 TI). And since the replacement, I have random DX11 crashes with FFXIV. I have already everything mentioned here and elsewhere (from changing resolution, fullscreen and borderless, fix refresh rate, complete new graphic driver installation and much more). But the random chrashes are still available. The only thing working is switching to DX9, which causes no problems or crashes.

By the way, FFXIV is the only game which is crashing with DX11. Hopefully SquareEnix solves this problem with one of the next patches.

Hello guys. Friend of mine has been crashing and I'm trying to help him solve it. He has windows 10 and is affected.

I'm on an old lenovo y-50 with windows 7 professional and don't have this issue.

Has anyone been affected by this crash that isn't running windows 10?

Thought I was out of the hole after just not touching the game for awhile, but after about an hour and a half with no issues, it started happening again. Absolutely none of the fixes I've yet seen for this problem have worked.

i also am experiencing some un-playable related issue but without any error codes. just masses and masses of Crash to Desktop.

it started right off at 5.25 and while i have days im OK, i have 95% of the days its not. and frankly the last 3 weeks i stopped caring to cap myself weekly tomes for both dow/doh

i hope 5.3 patch might resolve this deep-rooted problem but i doubt it bc i see a mount upon mounting of topics on different forums etc about CTD and Errors.

i also experience CTD in DX9 so if its really a 11 problem, perhaps not and just a 14 problem.

ive tried to ask for help in varieus topics on Reddit and this is what ive wrote so far:

i can sum up as good as i remember what i did up to now:

• reinstalled 14
  
• updated/checked drivers
  
• updated windows
  
• updated GPU several times (no roll back bc it started happening after a 14 update and not a GPU update)
  
• scf scannow and fixxed the stuff
  
• changed to dx9 (it ran best the longest but then it started CTDing again)
  
  
• run normally
  
• run as administer
  
• change all my max settings to the lowest of lowest (you have to do that manually)
  
• checked my GPU itself; runs nicely at around 100% and lower when 'lower fps when afk'
  
• clicked on/off lower fps when afk
  
• clicked on/off lower fps when inactive (so when alt-tabbed to other character or to the internet)
  
• cap or uncap the fps to any of the settings
  
• change the Ambient Occlusion and Glare settings
  
• windowed, borderless and full screen options
  
• check for Firewall issues
  
• checked for overlays from any program (i have 3 using it, apparently- learnt something there!)
  
• stopped any program and only had 1 FF14 on.
  
• checked my USB slots (as described on 14 trouble shooting page); are they in their correct slots? 2.0 3.0 3.1 etc .
  
• removed a usb-player and see if i would crash (so log on w/o a KB or a mouse or a gamepad)
  
• changing the sound as mentioned by ppl in comments (of reddit)
  
• chkdsk done for the one 14 is on, and just checked all of em while i was at it (found no errors)
  
• changed my Hz of my monitor as described in comments/on other forum. 60 59 and 50 is all i got and neither work. 60 is default. (i have this monitor longer than the problem)
  
• friend suggested running a benchmark (i used https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven) and see if it would crash / show any weird stuff. it didn't

today it felt to me that certain areas make me crash alot, like Limsa main aether/lower limsa and the foundation. im still in the middle of testing it and it feels music (of 14 or youtube or WMA) is also causing some instant CTD 14 problems. i am still trying to pinpiont the problem as for the past 2+ months and this is how far i got.

i will stop playing when this continues after 5.3, bc the past month i hardly even done a thing besides trial and erroring.
on that note ^ ; i played FF11 and it works fine, no errors or CTD's. i know its an 'old game' but it still uses coding and whatnot and i have no issues there.

this sounds horrible. esp when i know i am not having anything on my PC that they deem as 'cheating' . i hope...so bad.. that this is not true.

Been having this issue for awhile.

I've also ran into frequent disconnects in recent days. I'll be playing the game and then just suddenly be booted for no apparent reason.

Add me to the list, frequent crash to desktop, some with DirectX errors some without.

I'm getting fed up with these crashes. It's nuts how long the Direct X crashes have been going on without a proper response from Square-enix.

I'm having 3 issues related with DirectX:

1) Game crashes with message window "A fatal DirectX error has occurred (11000002)"

2) An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.

I'm not using overlays, I tried reinstalling windows and even FFXIV but the issues continue.
My pc has windows 10 pro, mother MSI x370 gaming pro carbon, Graphic Card AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB, Proccessor AMD Ryzen 5 3600x 3.80 GHz and 16 GB Ram.
System requirement is even better than recomended to play, but I have this 3 errors suddenly and randomly when playing.

Used to get it on my Ryzen system but it turns out that this game is just the worlds best test for unstable ram settings. No other game would have an issue but this one until I ran all my settings through Ryzen Dram Calc and set them with what that said rather than using the stock XMP profile, ran it through mem test to check for errors and updated my Bios. My ram was unstable stock as I guess the default Xmp was for Intel systems.

I decided to do a system restore before my last Windows update and have had no issues since then for now - but holding off a Windows update is going to be difficult especially because my computer takes hours to do a system restore.

Checking in. Getting DX errors non-stop (couldn't even log in to the game without getting it). Actually unplayable. Completely wiped my computer clean: a complete fresh install of windows. Now I can at least log in but the game randomly crashes (no error). I give up. May resub when next patch rolls out but who knows.

Not only Final Fantasy XIV, but "Software that uses DirectX 11 causes "a fatal error occurred in DirectX."
This kind of trouble occurs when the graphics driver cannot process the DirectX 11 error sent from the Windows side for some reason.
The problem is, even if it occurs even once, it can not be fixed even if Windows is reinstalled, even if the graphic card or driver is changed or reinstalled.

However, there is a solution for the time being.

However, since the registry is modified , please be sure to take full responsibility even if a fatal malfunction occurs in Windows . Be
sure to manually create a system restore point . You can use
System Restore to get back to where you were.

(Solution)
Search for programs and files, or type regedit with Win key + R.
Click the displayed regedit.exe to start the registry editor.
The registry list will appear, so open the tree as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → System → CurrentControlSet → Control → GraphicsDrivers.

Click GraphicsDrivers and check if the following items exist in the right window.

the data value of each of the 3 items on TdrDdiDelay is “when present” is 0.
If it is not 0, double-click the item, change the value data to 0, and press OK to finish.

In
the window on the right side of the above 3 items "if they do not exist" , right click → New → DWORD → New item with new value is created. 　Change the name to the three
listed above,　TdrLevel 　TdrDelay 　TdrDdiDelay , and confirm that the data of each value is 0.

After checking all, exit Registry Editor and restart Windows.

that's all.

Under normal circumstances, I don't think "DirectX encountered a fatal error."

After this registry change, it will be maintained unless there is an update with a version change of Windows 10, such as v1903 to v1909, but if you need a new driver change from AMD to NVIDIA NVIDIA to graphics card This work is necessary.
You don't need to do this again if you just update your normal graphics driver.
