Hopefully that will be what happens.

Any news on the walking animations/system? Would like to know if they reuse the code from 1.0 or do a new one from scratch.
I cant wait!!! NEWS!!
Like everyone else, I can't wait for all the technological improvements and game mechanics improvements, however.....
Above all else I can't wait to see if 2.0 will immerse and suck me into the world like FFXI did. For those who dislike any FFXI referencing, quell your flames please. I just want FFXIV 2.0 to feel like a world and an adventure, not a game. This is akin to how some people get immersed into a book, movie, music, etc.
Seeing another thread recently has made me realize there must have been a place to store all of my 2.0 excitement, so here it is!
*puts it in a time capsule to be revisited many moons from now*
It is pretty neat! Even a document I made around launch with my "grounded" wishlist, seeing more than half the things on that list crossed off.
i.e. NPC repairing accessories, manually selecting home points, actions do not reset when switching classes, invite to party from a distance, claim multiple enemies, item search through wards, etc.
some things still on my list that I'll plant here that will probably make me giggle post 2.0:
mailbox,
remove linkshell members while offline or from a distance,
linked market wards,
item search by name (1.22),
buyback,
static level-range selection on local leves,
ability to right click on a person's name during chat to send a whisper/party invite/blacklist,
ability to right click on an item to buy or sell,
drag-and-drop action bars
I don't know about you guys, but CGI trailers just don't do anything for me. I'd much prefer gameplay. Really don't care much that we'll see 2.0's opening at E3 for that fact, unless it has some surprises hidden in it such as new classes. The weeks after the event will probably be more interesting, since we'll be getting more info from the dev team.
Anyway, the two big things for me are community options and zones. The former should've been in from the start (but hell, so should a lot of other things). Tying it into PvP, bosses (such as with the summon system), and other things is always neat. Helps to really push friendships and rivalries. The latter I really didn't care much for until I tried out FFXI and started running around there. Made me realize just how poor of a quality everything in XIV 1.0 was in that regard.
Rather than making a new topic, I thought I might rehash my excitement here.
*faints until 2.0*
I'm curious what type of turnaround times we'll see once 2.0 is released.
I'm imagining that core game changes will have been made and that tweaking will occur rather than overhauls. And that content and little fixes will happen more frequently. I wonder.
It's not a new game either like some still believe. They already established with the exception of map redesigns they're simply importing 1.x stuff over to the new client and servers which basically means it's more just updating than anything. Obviously after new content they'll still have to make adjustments, but 2.0 is more of a glorified patch which already has tweaks done to it since that's basically what an overhaul is.
This is why 2.0 is in such a make or break position, since it'll allow for some stuff 1.x can't do, but it can also still have some of the problems that were a turn off for players to begin with, i.e interface lag. So it's more people still expecting it to be a brand new game rather than just a overhaul to the core system.
They could have always added content being released during 2.0's life span in 1.x if they so chose, would it have been wise to, though?
Althought they may be tweaking certian aspects most of what 2.0 offers is brand new systems and content (servers, maps, pvp, new areas, new systems, AH, Free Companies, Summoning, Playing housing etc.)
*EDIT* Damn, I just noticed your on my server to! I need to go spread false info around Ul'dah
I can just feel the 2.0 information coming. Like a cool summer thunderstorm rolling in, ready to rain down information, screenshots, and movies on us.
...OK, maybe that's a little too hopeful. If not a downpour of 2.0-related stuff, then at least a few sprinkles of information happening more and more often :) I know E3 is coming, but somehow I thought we'd get a screen or something before then. Maybe not, though.
Anyway, I'm not complaining. I think they should release 2.0 information whenever they think it would strategically work to their advantage to do so. However, that doesn't stop me from wanting information like a child wants candy. Yoshi-P, can I have a screenshot? Can I? Can I? Huh? Can I? I want a screenshot! Yoshi-P! ..... ........ Bayohne! Can I have a sreenshot? Can I? Can I? Huh? Can I? Mom....er....Yoshi-P said I could! So can I have one?
Exactly, everything in a whole.. is being considered an overhaul on an overall basis. Majority of it being System related work. However, according to the PDf's it would seem a significant amount of content is being added in 2.0.. and since 1.xx is basically getting dumped.. where's the New content? So I consider that an overhaul as well.. Overall in content related to the events after Meteor and anything else they can muster.
Edit: Don't you dare!
For me, with a new UI, this game will be as good as new. >.>' lol
I thought this from the begining when yoshi first stepped in and started patches(before the roadmap, etc). I saw it were half of his team was fixing the game to improve its qualtiy for ps3 release, then the other half is developing content to be added after ps3 release.
doing this to keep pc players busy while the new ps3 crowd would do the content that was fixed then looking forward to the newly added content. The pc players yes would help the new ps3 players since we gobble up content with each patch at the same time doing the newly added content. When the roadmap finally came out, the whole thing with the meteor, etc made sense SE from early on was doing what i thought but slightly different becuase the content prior to 2.0 is never to be playable again.
Overhaul, restructuring, tweaks, revisions, fine tuning, updating
You guys sound like my ex girlfriend
Why do we have to "label" it
You could call it a Self-propagating, Systemic multiverse bilateral excursion and it wont change what it is
Whatever it is, what the PDFs describe, whatever you want to call it... it has me excited!
/wave Starlord ^^ Glad to see you excited about this, I am too ^^.
I read over the "FFXIV Updates, Version 2.0, and Beyond (Last updated 10/14/2011 by Naoki Yoshida)" Link http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/dow...Content_EN.pdf
And I was excited about these:
Creation of more character customization options (e.g. , hairstyle).
Ability to walk and view character in game environments and use emotes as part of creation process. (I hope we can redo our already created characters. I want highlights! or I want to go completely white hair lol)
Release of a "mannequin" system for one-touch changing of gear sets.
Gear equipped to mannequins will not take up inventory space.
Mannequins available can be increased via certain quests and battle content. (this sounds cool, to me it seems like the mannequins we had in 11. So i'm thinking we would have our own moghouse or w/e for display?? Otherwise, where would it be setup??)
New summoning ability available to certain jobs and classes after version 2.0.
Release of in-game player communities known as Free Companies. Planned for version 2.0.
Free Companies can be formed by as few as 4 players by submitting an application to a Grand Company.
Free Company-specific content to earn points used to improve company rank, gain access to personal
estates, perform cooperative synthesis. Planned for four-phase release after version 2.0.
Release of a delivery system and mail system for version 2.0.
Release of a content finder system after version 2.0.
