Older gamers

Hope nobody minds me bringing this thread to life :) This is a really nice thread!

Just wondering if all us oldies are doing ok another year gone by and another level gained lol

Hilarious a 32 year old person things about herself as old, ppl these days. :D
Like already mentioned a lot of players are 40+, including myself.

Over 70 here. Started with Adventure (text game on teletypes / minicomputers), then Amiga games. Built first PC to run Myst, then moved on to Runescape, WoW, and this.
I would have played in my 30's, but computers powerful enough to run today's games didn't exist.

I aint old(37) but my body doesn't agree.

I'm also an oldy, (will be 40 this year) I have been a final fantasy fan since nintendo thus here I am. Aether DC here if anyone ever wants to do something.

I am late 40s but I will never grow up! I began gaming many years ago and I adore RPGs. I love all kinds of games from Shadow hearts, Dragon Quest, Allundra and Grandia to name a few, along with FF and also Lost Oddyssey and Legend Of Dragoon. I am a female and a lot of my friends used to look at me oddly because I have always gamed haha but I think it is more accepted now. I also have a grown up daughter who now works for a Videogames company as lead artist I think me and my husband must have influenced her haha and she sometimes plays. Its nice to see us oldies are still going strong :D

This game was the most amazing JRPG I have ever played. The character's, story etc. I wish this game would get remade

Nice to see these posts, guess I'll go next. Mid fifties, big FF fan. My first FF was Final Fantasy Adventure on Gameboy. I remember calling Squaresoft for help in killing the final boss and talked the the VP. FFXI was my first mmo. I tried talking to an NPC. Still think this should be possible in some future mmo. Been in FFXIV since 1.0 beta. Still using the same PC I built to play that. Anyone from FFXI Cerberus server that was in Utopia, send me a message.

Still here, alive and kicking at 45 :) Still playing Ffxiv and loving it... it's nearly been five years on this game, got arthiritis in my shoulder and back but don't let that stop me gaming :p Can't believe I haven't posted in this thread before :O

I had a bad fall over two years back my lovely cat caused me to fall from top to bottom stairs. Resulted in bad ankle crush fracture and dislocation, it will never heal now.
I had plate and screws they have snapped but I developed a pain condition called CRPS and arthritis and none union bone. They want to try bonegraft but I am not able until they try sort this out. I lost my job as I struggle now but it gives me time to play FF that bit more and meet nice people, I have played since 2010 ^O^

I am glad I did not break my arm or wrist I would have been gutted lol I wouldn't be able to hold my controller :O

I am surprised to hear of some much older than me that play. The oldest I have actually met in game was 54. Most people I hang out with are in their 30's. I actually rarely meet people younger for some reason.

Now what I REALLY want to know is how many of those above 50 can ACTUALLY still use a keyboard/mouse combo for hours on end and not have their hands throbbing afterwards?

It's the main reason I switched to a controller for all game playing in my 40's and I have never looked back. It's just sooooo much more convenient.

42 here. I met most people in their 20's with a handful in their early 30's and a few people in the mid to late 30's in game. I will admit I find it easier to relate to 30's vs those in their 20's.

But I play with a controller as well it way easier on the hands. I always have since FFXI days started out on Garuda there. I use KB/M with FPS games for the most part. I need a bigger desk though that's for sure.

Glad to know there are alot of older gamers out here :)

awww ty yes she is thriving haha we have four, she is a Norwegian forest ragdoll x and absolutely beautiful.

She cost me a few hundred pounds and a lot more but I am ok and thank you for your kind words ^O^

I can tell you, even though I'm currently 35, some days I feel like I am 90+. It doesn't help that I have a plethora of health issues and a badly messed up back either.

Just thought I would pop in and add my two pennies' worth.

I have just passed the 20th Anniversary, of the 20th Anniversary of my 20th Birthday! :D

Been play games on-line since dial-up and MUDS and use a keyboard and mouse, as I loathe these new fangled Controller Pad Things.

You are all a bunch of wet behind the ears whippersnappers. I am 73 and am still playing. I love it when players complain about being in their 30s. Wish I could remember my 30s.

48 here, and a female gamer too, playing since my 20s believe it or not, I love gaming and so my husband too, we are both addicted, never had children that is why we got only each other, I love ff games and started to play it since ffX, but I played other games before that, I also love the sims, assassin creeds, gta, and more, I’m a good gamer and so is my husband, I love all ff gamers as if they are my children, so happy with this thread :)

I'm 38 and most of the people I play with are in their 30s. Makes no difference how old you are when playing games, as long as you enjoy it. I'm sure I'll be playing video games into my 70s and 80s.

Memories tend to be forgotten when there's nothing important about them. I remember when I was 28, but I can't tell you anything about 20-27, but I can tell you in great detail all my memories from my single digits. I will NEVER forget my 30s, because 32 is where I experienced a life changing event that affects my health to this day.

52 now and started FFXIV last year, totally new to the story and it is a lovely breath of fresh air after 15 years of World of Warcraft. I have also lived and worked in Second Life for a similar period.

Before then for me it was single player stuff like Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, Myst, Riven, Bugdom ... and all the way back to Atari 2600 :D

Hey, gaming keeps you young in playfulness, breadth of imagination and sense of fun. "Inhabiting" your character is very liberating also !

My reactions are not always as fast as they used to be, and complex encounter stuff boggles me now more than it did, but I do my best ... and I have *fun* which is the main thing I think :)

I used to be nervy about group runs, but just about everyone i have met in this game has been pretty cool, kind and enjoyable to be around, so it's mostly cured me of that !

I will always love gaming I have played so many over the years, If I get lucky enough to get really old I will be the one sat in the old peoples home with my games haha.

This is an older post, but I JUST FOUND the forum today, and I've enjoyed reading. Trying to get caught up. I'm 52, and not only am I new to FFXIV, I'm new to MMOs. Learned a lot the past six weeks but now I can carry quite a convo with my adult son who's been playing since jr high. I felt the need to find others who were "older" and social. Still looking for a FC and/or Discord.

I'm 44 and have been playing games since the Odyssey II was a thing! I bought my copy of the first NES Final Fantasy at the store when it came out! LOL! Just reading that makes me feel old! This is my first MMO though I started playing it when it launched on PS4. But took a break during Heavensward. I just got back into it this past Christmas when I built my PC and it's consumed my life! Thank God I'm single with no kids and a 9-5 job so I can play all I want! It's great to see other older folks on here! Gaming truly is for everyone!

I'd love to find a GF that didn't mind me gaming as much as I do. I stream too so I'm usually on every evening after work. The last two "said they didn't mind" but when it came down to it, it was an issue. I'm to old stubborn, and set in my ways to change! So maybe a gamer GF is what I need! Wish there was a single gamer app out there! LOL!
