As time goes on, this get more and more outrageous, they keep screwing up up aspects of the game, Verra and Ronso being genderlocked, and also not being able to wear headgear. And not geting a healer, and now talks of the tank and healer DPS going down a lot, to try and and make the DPS role have even more importance. This is starting to get out of hand, they need to fix stuff ASAP
Have to love how yoshi doesn't even count blue mage as a class even. I hate this, I hope he fixes this soon, becuase it pisses me off that he's basically laughing to himself thinking himself clever for how he added a job he didn't want into the game, but hey, I guess he was too busy trying to decide what shirt to ware to fanfest instead of making fans happy
I just find it way too weak in terms of solo progression past lvl45.
How are they screwing aspects of the game, because they are genderlocking (Not really screwing up since there hasn't been any male viera, and the new ones are not ronso if i am not mistaken, they are a completly different race, hrothgar i believe) I mean isnt that a lore thing? and fair enough lore means diddly squat when it comes to MMO customization, but, eh, do explain why is it such a big deal? Also why would you want a new healer, its kind of pointless to have more, even more so since one of the healers is getting a much needed rework? So you want more broken jobs, instead of having few but functioning ones?
Also isnt it kind of contradictory that you say "...intead making fans happy" when he just added viera for the fans, and SAM for the fans, in fact it seems quite a lot of things, if memory serves, are added for the fans, including, of course, BLU (which should the main and only topic). Now pardon me but is it not impossible to make fans happy because, fans are always unhappy unless its what they want to see, a fair sentiment but an unrealistc one. Honestly who cares about most of the objections you have, they are pointless at best.
So you saying "they keep screwing up up aspects of the game..." its a lie and an exageration, and honestly not the threat for this kind of topic.
I just want to play my favorite class in more than a mini game...
Whelp, he didn't mention it on the live letter, and he still hasn't said anything about it. This is getting ridiculous.
This job has really angered me the last few weeks.
I still fail to understand the dev team's reasoning for the job working the way it does and I WAS THERE AT FAN FEST when this was announced. I watched the replay about ten times to try and wrap my head around why the job cannot function in a typical group and I just don't understand.
There seems to be this feeling that the job would break everything if allowed to function in a group setting, but, I've seen no indication that this would be the case.
Spells like Missile and Tail Screw are the worst offenses due to their low accuracy -- especially Missile's whole "will do no damage to anything above your level." So, what? Do I only use it for funsies while running around outside of Ul'dah?
This job has no focus on personal stats either. Those of us who played BLU on XI will remember Blue Mage spells had STR, DEX, AGI, etc attached to them and certain combinations could generate job traits. So, you could basically structure that job in any way you saw fit and increase (or decrease) the power of your spells. Now, I don't know if it's just the way XIV is built, but it's a little ridiculous to me that this job is lacking when it comes to stats.
It all comes off to me as "Here is BLU. Stop asking!" Now it's evolved into, "Fix BLU!"
As a former career Blue Mage from FFXI, call me extremely disappointed.
I got BLU to 50 and got all spells in a week and I completely forget BLU is a thing until I see threads like this.
I did enough Carnival to get spells but otherwise, Carnival doesn't interest me at all and it seems that BLU was made purely for the Carnival.
I was super excited for Blue Mage. Then they released this minigame garbage of a limited job. I support it being a full job as right now, it's quite literally useless. It's popularity died about a week after it was released. Nearly everyone has shelved this job and rarely does anyone even bother doing the Masked Carnival.
I originally came back to the game excited for the Blue Mage leaks. Then came the reveal and it was like a huge slap in the face. Quite literally EVERYONE I've spoken to is extremely upset at the outcome of Blue Mage. Nobody likes what has been done to it and just level it to 50 to get rid of it. I'm stuck in a situation now where nobody wants to even bother to get Blue Mage spells anymore. Why? Because it's pointless and nobody cares about the Masked Carnival.
What irks me the most is how they claimed this job was too OP to be a full time job. Yet it requires a group of people to carry you through Hard/Extreme versions of trials to get abilities that you COULDN'T NORMALLY DO at level 50 BLU. Why? Because most abilities and mechanics kill you in one shot.
So how is this meant to be a solo minigame job which still requires others to assist you? I don't understand at all the direction they went with this job.
They have so guts putting Blue Mage as number 14, do they still think people like it? After all the hate they've been getting, if your going to that, the least you can do is say that it's getting a rework to be a real class, instead of a boring, useless, waste of time and money that it is now.
I feel so bad for the players who have been waiting on their favorite job to make it into the game only for it to become a limited job. I never had any interest in BLU becoming my main job. However, I was excited with the people who were really anticipating this job. I was happy for them knowing they were gonna play the job they always wanted. But from the outside looking in, I feel it's devastating to know that the job you've been holding out on for years and have been looking most forward to playing comes out as a limited job.
I love Ninja. I've been playing since 1.0 and I remember that yearning to play as a Ninja since 1.0 first came out. When they announced Ninja I was ecstatic. I was so excited and happy after waiting for years to finally play my Ninja job. I can only imagine the level of disappointment to be in that frame of mind only to discover that what you've wanted is limited and can never truly be. Blue Mage deserves to be a full job and I shutter to think that they would do this again. To Beast Master? Geomancer? let me not give them any ideas. I think Limited Jobs are a terrible idea, and it's a decision I cannot stand by with Yoshi P on.
The dev team should rework BLU and make it into a full job without a doubt.
Blue Mage is a trash fire, and this has been acknowledged by most parties except for the dev team.
Expect BLU to never be updated, like Diadem.
Again this is where we feedback, and complain(if necessary) if we didnt, the fire wouldn't be put out and we'd just sit there and watch.
Im NOT a big BLU fan, but I see what they've done, and being a longtime(even life time) FF fan. I have to agree.
This was evidently done on purpose(3 Execute instant buttons, so funny)(Lies about OP-ness)And even worse, it plays exactly like any other workable full-job. This is obviously a message sent that they just didnt want to not that they cant. Especially now that SQUALL is an ICONIC FF Job, whew, finally. Seriously, not much if any thought would have to have been put out to up potencies, and make it a 3rd Usable job in ShB. But we both know why and what theyre doing. Theyre stalling so it will be, when they run out of SQUALL jobs to add to the roster. then ok BLU
Guess what were getting next expansion? probably LOCKE or better yet ZIDANE job for the next expansion - we never had a thief class before
I see a thread of people who never tried doing BLU challenge runs, got twinked to get their spells, and decided not to try doing actual challenging stuff with it, deciding that side content designed by Mr Atma, a battle designer, should be given to the balance team because they decided that Blue Mage shouldn't involve the blue mage mechanics that have been baked into the job for 20 years, and literally in every iteration in one form or another, despite claiming it's their favorite job, because.... reasons.
None of which involve naming specific blue mage spells.
Exactly what mechanics have been baked into the job for 20 years? The customization? That's only in FFXI. Not being able to actually play the game? No, that's just in this game. So you're probably clinging to the instant death and percentage based damage. In which case I point you to BLM and AST. BLM has had Death since FF1, but doesn't in FFXIV. Can you guess why? Can you also guess why AST's Gravity doesn't deal damage based on 1/4th of the enemy's health? There's no classic BLU spell that can't be reworked to become acceptable for this game. For instance, why can't Doom simply be a timer that tics for something ridiculous like 1000 potency if the enemy is still alive? That's how Death works in FFXIII, and it still retains the flavor of Doom which is 'counting down to an enemy's death'. I'm sure I'm wasting my time though because nothing I say will stop you from worshiping the broken and nonsensical design simply because your precious beloved devs decided to do it.
Since Blue Mage is a solo job, could they make it usable for Command Missions?
And can we be allowed to have full access to duty finder as pre-formed parties?
I actually enjoy BLU for what it is, but at the same time I think it lacks engaging complexity. Alas, maybe it's just because up until now it was some sort of test drive for the concept, and hopefully ShB new level cap will bring more interesting elements and needed reworks, as following:
1) BLU is not designed to solo content that is meant to a full 4 man party, and that's where it hurts a bit, because the job depends on certain dungeons to obtain its spells, and it can't use the duty finder (and tbh the party finder is like a barren wasteland for BLU parties, even if you try to start one)... So a lot of people ar at a loss here. They need to give more tools to make this viable SOLO, just like it was one of the main advertised aspects of the job. Let absolute group requirement for the 8-mans.
2) With the level cap reaching 60, they need to open PotD to solo BLU. C'mon, it's the perfect opportunity. Maybe they'll have it easier than other jobs, but at least will be an enjoyable ride.
3) Masked Carnivale needs more engaging rewards! It's practically meaningless to someone that doesn't need the allied seals anymore, and already completed every challenge multiple times. Maybe add a special BLU currency for special rewards like mounts, minions or glamour. Yet, it will still reach a stale status eventually, so I'd propose a PVP BLU face-off as well to keep things fresh.
4) Just a minor detail, but I think 1k needles makes up for a poor leveling experience, in which you spend a LONG time using it to 1 or 2 shot the enemies not because it's fun (who honestly finds that cast time fun to spam?) but because is the best thing for many levels. My proposal here is to make stronger spammable abilities availabe in the earlier level ranges.
They still haven't done anything with blue mage. I hate that they are so content with how they implement it. They have the guts to keep it as trash. They nees to fix to NOW! They sit on they're hands and yoshi has the guts to say that "He's not taking feed back until they add more content for it". Like god, JUST FIX IT AND MAKE IT A FULL CLASS! Stop being a lazy dev, and fix it already! Make it a caster Dps. And for the love of god. DON'T MAKE ANYMORE LIMITED JOBS! Or if you do make them stupid OP, like let me go in and run expert on my own. Instead of lining up class that are "too hard" to add and killing them off.
Just abandon or delete it. Waste of development time.
It honestly baffles me that there are people in this thread that want it to stay as an utterly useless job.
I kinda don't care about it anymore. We fought for a while to get them to do SOMETHING with it and got no response. So meh.
It does, however, worry me about the prospect of future 'limited jobs'. Two of my favorite XI jobs have been mentioned in this category, Beast Master and Puppet Master, but with Yoshi's clear dislike of pet classes and the poor implementation of Blue Mages, that frankly scares me. Neither would be particularly difficult to implement properly ((So long as they can get the strange 'damage coming from independent sources should be minor' stick out of their backsides)) aside from the taming part of beast master ((And even that can be done in a manner similar to Summoner if needs be, taming up different beast types as level quests until you have one of each from a healthy number of families)) but the whole 'limited' aspect could completely screw them over. I'm totally fine with them not being max level to start off with and slowly being implemented over time, but completely hamstringing their ability to do content at their current level would go a long way to ruin them, as it has with Blue Mage.
Tbh SE added BLU as a piece of solo content because in my opinion that's one of the things that this game lacks.
If you look at BLU as solo content then I think they did an alright job.
But if you look at it from a job standpoint, it's very disappointing.
I'd personally love to see more solo content added to the game but i'd much rather see BLU become a proper job rather than it being a solo thing.
BLU as it is in the game right now just isn't even a job.
Honestly I was hyped for Blu. I wanted to learn all the spells and do the carnival. Then I got to level 45 and dropped it. This class really lost my interest fast. Sadly I think it is kinda wasted content.
I dont see any blue mages running around. I dont even see people making parties in the PF for months for blu spell groups.
It is disappointing. I notice there seems to be some backwards logic when defending limited jobs. People will say "it was a mistake to call it Blue Mage" and "it's not a job, it's a minigame and that makes it okay." But then we'll hear "I want to see Beastmaster and Puppetmaster as limited jobs." Following the same logic used to defend what we call Blue Mage, it would be wrong to refer to either of these as Beastmaster or Puppetmaster. What should be said is "I want a pet collector minigame and a puppet customization minigame" because that's what we would be getting.
No job deserves to be nothing more than a minigame.
The status of BLU really hurts. There's so much potential for it to be a fun job, so many ways to approach it. I'd consider it a really unique and defining element of Final Fantasy's aesthetic legacy as a whole, and my favourite job from the franchise's pantheon.
Personally, I'd like to see BLU developed into some sort of legitimate tank job. But regardless of whatever is done to it, I'm not at all a fan of whatever it is currently supposed to be.
Blue Mage is my favorite class and it really sucks to see it be nothing more than a minigame.
It being a limited job just makes it so restricting. If I can't enjoy the full game while using that class, then I really don't see a point in it. I hardly see any blue mages around. It's a dead class because of how poorly it was implemented.
I just want SE to make it an actual job. Something on equal footing, at least in status, to the rest of the jobs.
i'm upset that my pet's Lord of Vermillion stats don't help me in raids
I also find it particularly rotten that players can't use Blue Mage to level through the main story. Square Enix has essentially boiled it down to a mini-game that can get old fast and left it at that. Because of its limited job status and the restrictions put on it, I harsly ever see people use it. It should definitely be a full class because the whole limited thing isn't working out.
The fact that your comparing a class that has been in ff since 5, to a crapy side game is funny. Blue mage has the right to be in the game, it has a following, it has people who love it, it has people who would main it if they could. Not some useless minigame.
I'm curious to see what future patches will bring for Blue Mage but I don't have high expectations.
This! Blue Mage is my favorite archetype in the Final Fantasy series. I play Summoner because it's a second but I'll instantly drop summoner for blue mage in a heart beat if they make it a full class. Even if they make it where we learn "monster abilities" during our story quests.
Just a random idea (and not likely popular) the Blue Mage could have made an excellent Healer. It has lots of heals and shields and buffs and a few damaging abilities (if we ignore the boss abilities weirdness). In particular i think the suicidal sacrifice heals could be very interesting and clutch in dungeon boss fights. Much like they do with all the other classes they could have simply had each ability learned locked behind a monster fought or hunted down for their job quests. (And removed the boss abilities skills completely)
You already have to learn 2 abilities before you can finish the blue mage 'class' story. If people are really hung up on not learning skills through job quests then just make it a prereq. It's the same result either way: didn't do job quests = didn't get mandatory skills. Just like any other real job.
I was always hoping that blu mage would eventually be reworked later to be a full job, also any limited jobs in the future i would hope for the same thing eventually
I recently came back to FFXIV and I was sorely disappointed with BLU.
BLU is my favorite class in all FFs. I focus on the BLU in every title, to include Tactics Advance.
All they had to do was balance the class normally and lock the monster skills behind quests. To guarantee people wouldnt be locked out of content.
Also giving the BLU a real weapon would have been nice, but that's not a big deal.
This needs to be a real class. Rework this instead of adding another job, and please for the love of god no more "limited classes".
I've been watching videos explaining BLU's design and attached systems, and it boggles my mind that it was implemented as side content instead of as a main job. As an outsider looking in, it seems SE chose to put the gimmick of Blue Magic above everything else; the spectacle of having boss abilities trumping balanced class design.
Granted, considering the current jobs are built around certain parameters, concessions would have to be made to make BLU fit with the other jobs. I'm not convinced that's a bad thing, though for the sake of those that like the job as it is, I would probably create a core design for BLU that would be able to join normal parties and raids, and implement systems around it that would be for solo spell farming and the masked carnival. I can't say for sure if BLU players would mind being limited to a specific list of spells for duties/raids, though.
