Also while on the topic of localisation goofs, can we talk about how Chaos's longitudinal and latitudinal attacks are swappeed?

Longitude should be sideways and latitude should be upwards and downwards. Not a big deal in NM with the AoE markers but in Savage it sucks having to process that they're swapped.

Those aren't swapped. Lines of longitude are vertical lines on the planet. Lines of latitude are horizontal lines on the planet.

It's not as bad for most cases, but Omega just doesn't give enough time to process it on top of trying to figure out starboard/larboard.

Seriously, at least NM could've gotten a better visual indicator than just the cast bar. Having to look at too many things in such a short amount of time means I'm always expecting to die on it.

True but longitude is measure horizontally while latitude is measure vertically, that's how I remembered it in 7th grade so it gets a bit confusing.
But if it's meant to be like the lines across the globe then I guess its alright.

It is likely messed up, the reason the lines of longitude are vertical is to MEASURE east/west, so in communicating it is supposed to mean east/west. Did anyone note this while looking at the in game compass?

I can see that it can be ambiguous, but it makes more sense as they've arranged it in the game.

Lateral basically means "to the side". It's not even an obscure word like 'larboard'. (See: 'lateral thinking', approaching the problem indirectly; also the many phrases listed on Wikipedia's disambiguation page)

There's all kinds of archaic words used in FFXIV. It's a stylistic choice.

EX: eikon instead of icon

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but this is an especially weird name convention for an attack considering that Temple of the Fist has a boss who also uses nautical directions for attacks. And his side attack is called "Port and Star".
