Crafting may be the only thing that needs an EXP boost, for everything else the EXP rate is ridiculous between 30~50 where we have a reversed leveling curve which is going to have to be fixed sooner or later by adjusting the specific EXP rate between 30~50 because it sure as hell won't be healthy once the cap increases. (I don't mind it taking only a day or two to get 1~20 or 20~30, but it sure as hell should take a lot longer than a matter of hours to get 30~50 in any setting.)

Unless the MMO environment changes and something big happens to modify the way the genre is currently played, "original" ideas cannot surface. It's all been done before. Until something shakes up this genre, it will remain stagnant. Unfortunately I don't think XIV is going to break the mold and instead seems to be trying its best to fit itself into it nicely. At least that will draw players to the game, and that's the most important thing SE needs to do right now anyway.

Why do we need rested exp?
"The effect of eating ingredient items (such as raw meat and fish, fruits, and other unprocessed foods) will be changed. Eating such items will only grant an experience point bonus."

I think the exp bonus for food is to make it more relevant to general play in the game. It's a minor increase, but its also enough to make people feel like they are missing out if they don't have food while leveling.

The rested EXP is just another way of closing the gap between casual and hardcore players. Like, FFXI's exp rings, Guardian's Favor, and the Fatigue system, it allows those who don't have much time to play to catch up to those who play constantly.

Also, I don't recall where I read this, but doesn't the rested EXP only work with guildleves?

If so, I don't know why anyone would be against it.. Its just the Guardian's Favor automated.

And here I am having trouble getting more than two levels per weekend. What am I doing wrong, syntalixes?

The first line refers to the final bonus you get when you turn in a completed leve.

It was the second line in that paragraph which seemed to hint at being an exclusive bonus to leves and crafting.

Level 42 is prime levels for a tapers party! You actually get to fight (no PL for you!), and the xp rolls in like the ocean waves.

I'm curious, though, what did the guy do that got from 30-50 "in a few hours", apparently specifically relating to the 30-42 part of that? Is it just assumed everyone gets PL'd or was that post just some extreme exaggeration? If so I'm sure the rested exp will do nothing for that anyway as it applies to leves.

Sorry, I just seem to be having a normal leveling curve (getting more time-consuming as the levels progress) so I'm very curious how others are having a different experience, or if it's just exaggerated nonsense about getting PL'd which won't happen to everyone every time.

If you are sitting around level 35, you'll have to grind a bit until level 37. Once you hit 37 you can switch to the level 40 grand company leves. These are solo only and you'll get roughly 10k xp per 15 minute leve. Once you get to level 40, you can switch to doing stronghold parties (SH parties for short). There is one in Coerthas which is a better xp imho, and there is one in Thanalan which is lower XP but you also get ifrit tapers as drops. Stocking up on tapers will help you immensely at endgame, since you will be able to do lots of ifrit runs right off the bat.

If you run SH parties you can get 40 -50 in a matter of hours with normal play. No PL, no exploits, no specific team setup.

That is what we refer to as a qualifying statement. What She was saying is that while the bonus will not be applied to the XP bonus you get from a leve, it will be applied to normal xp gained during the completion of a leve. This does not mean it will not be applied to regular XP at all times. It actually implies that this bonus will be applied to all XP earned by direct actions such as crafting an Item, Gathering materials and killing enemies.

I think it's time for people to just give up an Accept that this is just Rested XP as it has appeared in every other game since the concept was invented.

It really is a shame that were are going to be getting 1500xp a kill again. Prolly closer to 2000xp with the food bonus...

3% of 1500 XP is 45... >.>

I really don't think the food effects will go past 5% XP boost, MAYBE 10%.

I guess I just haven't gotten to the insane xp part. I get what you're saying and based on what I've been told by others that part makes sense. I've been told 40+ is easy etc, am fully anticipating that. What I find most odd was just the other guy claiming that 30-50 can be done in a few hours, which I just can't fathom outside of leeching or PL'ing.

I'm not talking about a PL'd party (I absolutely will have no part in PL'ing or being PL'd) and I'm certainly not exaggerating. There are these things called EXP groups, and these called EXP chains. Learn them.

Don't forget food exp.

Err... You CAN get 50% more per kill, but there's still a cap on how much bonus EXP you get in the first place... So you won't be getting those 2000 EXP a kill for very long anyway... Unless they designed it very poorly indeed.
