I don't know, MGS and Trusty Bell had good voice work given the story, I never played the english versions of them though, but if I recall David Hayter I believe his name was did Snake's voice which couldn't have been all that bad.

im sure they will only do the main story CSs....but why argue over it...ask for the option to turn it off (or use the mute if its that bad)
i dont understand why you would rather take it away from people, instead of asking for an option that would make both sides happy.
seriously....some people on these forums seem crazy.
OP: How does voice acting waste any of the developer's time? It's not like the developers themselves are doing the voice acting... They hire other people to do it. Since the voice system already exists, all they have to do is swap the english voice files for the other language ones when that language is selected. Anybody could do that in about 5 minutes.
Maybe *you* don't care if the game has voice acting in other languages than your own, but the people who speak in those other languages might care.
"keep it only to the main storyline or keep it to a minimum." They're already doing that... It's only used in major cutcenes. It's not like they're making every NPC in the game talk- That's impossible to do as the hard disk space that would be required (especially with how much the average NPC has to say in this game) for just ONE language would be way too much.
Good voice acting has also greatly enhanced many games. The elder scrolls and dragon age games especially. NWN was pretty good too, more obscurely, FFCC Ring of Fates had really good voice acting (a bit obnoxious to the untrained ear, but appropriate for the style of the game and the characters). Yes, I know a few games have had voice acting that was done really badly (sometimes notoriously so, e.e. all your base are belong to us) but voice acting doesn't have to ruin a game.Quote:
I hope at least something about the topic goes through to devs because at least for me the existence of voice acting has ruined many perfectly good games.
And honestly, FFXIV's voice acting, where it does exist, is pretty good IMO.
Do you have any idea how much that costs?! Especially in an Mmo where copyrights are bought to cover each year instead of print?!
Also having it cuts the content quality quantity and developement time severly.
It's not about time it's about money.
They are already understaffed and we're paying for beta what more evidence do you need?
The cost is trivial, and they don't need to copyright the same material every year, only the new material. copyrights are good for 80 years or more iirc. They are not understaffed, they're using as many people as they would benefit from. There comes a point were adding more people does not make development faster and instead just costs more.
They do have to pay the voice actors, but they don't get paid very much. Why do you think voice acting is often so weak?
Depends on the copyright and the country -- The US is 75 years.
They're not understaffed or underfunded but in every business there comes a point in time when you have to budget yourself properly which is why games of this generation are almost always lacking in one department, no matter how good the game is.
i dont get it how people is concerning about SE cost, its a big, huge company, that not only does this game, it has several offline games that sell a lot, you really should start asking for things that are concerned to us PLAYERS and leave bussiness to the bussiness man, as i said before i dont even care what they do to improve the game, GIVE IDEAS NOT EXCUSES leave those for Yoshi P.
take it like this...
If SE was worried about money they have to spend on VAs...this game would have been shut down a LONG time ago.
There's a lot more to it than just that. Projects have their own set budget, they can't continually funnel money -- Especially for a company with multiple departments like Square.
SE clearly proven they're not afraid to take a hit, but there's a difference between taking a hit and just blowing your money away unnecessarily -- They still have a commitment to relaunch this game for PS3 and they even said it's being treated as a 2nd and final chance, this is why it wasn't shut down -- Any other company in this position would have shut the game down and sold it off long ago.
Yes...voice acting must mean a game sucks in other aspects. Look at FFX. The graphics suffered because of....oh...wait....Well the storyline suffered because of...shoot...well the music...was good...the battle system...worked....
Screw a sensible argument. Voice acting makes games suck!
Voice acting: A nice touch.
But I'd rathe see them spend time/money elsewhere at the time being. Personally I hope 2.0 comes with a wicked awesome opening movie much like XI did.
How about Roegadyn talk russian, Elezen german, Lalafell italian ("It's me! Mario!" SCNR), Miqo'te french and Hyur english :P
no people will not skip shu now
And they sort of can continually funnel in money from the subs as well for future VA's. I'm pretty sure they've plan this all out and feel that VA is an important part of the game enough to add and I would agree. I mean we're not worried about resource allotment for this forum, lodestone, things sort of outside the game paramater, so why worry about something that will be in game and make it enjoyable for the right group of people?
