Considering this topic and the activity that it's centered around my bet would be that of the latter.

This is one of the most creepiest requests I've seen
I shoulda stayed away from here
Please, no, there’s already enough neglected children running around in this game.
I think there should be more sandbox content and content for roleplaying in general. Including roleplaying being a facet of the world.
If we can get married, and be part of a Free Company, which I'm very glad we can. It would be nice to form an in-universe family that is reflected by game mechanics in some way. Both found family and genetic family.
Most other RPGs have your main character have a family. Or at least, a lot of the ones I play, do. And many Final Fantasy games for that matter, though a lot of them focus more on found family than genetic family. Such as the case with Final Fantasy VIII where it was more of a found family situation.
It feels odd to me that your character doesn't have a hometown, a canonical family, no mom, no dad, no sister, or brother, cousin, no house or place of birth.
Edit: I'm just now realizing this was from 2017. Still, I agree that adding more family features is a good thing. As is adding Life-Sim features in general. I think it's more immersive to actually have a family. And Life-Sim elements tend to be a lot of my favourite parts of RPGs. A lot of RPGs tend to have Life-Sim elements, and also tend to get praised for them. I don't think it's strange to want to have an in game family for your character. And it helps a lot of people become more attached to their virtual selves. I think that helping people become more citizens of a virtual world is a good thing.
Role playing games already are influenced a lot by Adventure games. Nor have Life-Sim elements ever been particularly removed from RPG games. Role playing games have always taken from other genres.
Though I'm personally less interested in my character having canonical children, and moreso interested in the possibility of being able to call another character or player my sister or brother. A way to bond with other players other than through just marriage. I don't necessarily want to marry another player I enjoy being beside. But having a comrade be a brother or sister in arms would be awesome. And I also really want a family tree.
Definitely no.
Tbh I'd kinda feel sorry for the WoL's kids.
Their parents would be completely abscent pretty much constantly lol.
I mean, we're pretty busy story-wise.
Whilst I can understand non-dodgy reasons for wanting it, for example there could be a lot of wholesomeness tied to it and fun moments and could make for some good slice-of-life content, and as somebody who likes slice-of-life and wholesomeness I'd be on board for that.
I do see the pedo angle being a legit concern and if anything, better for them to avoid enabling as much as is reasonable. I think if anything it's a sad statement of reality and more so that it is the first concern people have. I'm sure they'd also want to avoid a situation where an article gets written about how the game has become a hotbed of pedophilia. So it's possible they don't see it as worth that risk.
Plus, I don't know what kind of demand there would be. Given they'd still need to create child versions of Lalafell, Roegadyn, Viera and Hrothgar to accommodate it. Although we've seen a child Lala in one of the Little Ladies day events (which was got some wholesomeness at least) they used a standard Lala model. So I expect this is a part of it too.
There's a lot of stigma and stereotypes about the Japanese and Japanese media when it comes to this too, so when people hear '' kids in video games '' in connection to Japan that comes out.
I mean people tend to jump to extremes a lot, when I've asked for more feminine gear in games before people have literally every time jumped to '' you want plate bikinis ''.
I've been asking for that in Baldur's Gate 3 and it's like every single person responding to it is arguing in bad faith and make it about that even when I specify that's not what I mean.
It's as if every time anything like this gets brought up peoples minds jump to the most extreme and exaggerated examples.
Same if a character design is censored in a game and you don't like it, it's always spun as '' you're just a pervert who wants to do this and that ''...
People asking for more body customization comes to mind too, there's always people trying to spin it as if people wanting it are just perverts.
Now that I think about it too it tends to always be sexual.
I can't think of non-sexual things and accusations people jump to like this.
Maybe if someone sees perverts everywhere they have some issues themselves they need to work on.
Edit: To be clear I don't think that some of the views towards Japanese media are totally unfounded.
I enjoy sexualized content, but the rather questionable ages of characters in way too much Japanese media is pretty gross imo and I do think deserves legit criticism.
I just meant that I think it's pretty unfair to just assume bad intent just because it's a Japanese game, people shouldn't assume those things still.
I don't think that most MMO's have ingame weddings and housing built into the game either and as much RP value.
FFXIV has a very strong RP community and there's a lot of content aimed towards that.
I think there are too many Children in this game arround already, especially the kind that plays "lets get married".
