Why do so many statics seem to be missing healers? What can be done to solve this?

i will once again note that this game is so focused on DPS output, everyone practically becomes a dps whore. even in my group nobody really cares about anything and praises nothing, but someones DPS output. there is no mentioning of how much damage was mitigated by SCH, no HPS done by WHM, only the goddamn dps. moreover, there is a blight called FFlogs. This tool was made with good intentions and practically necessary for progression and improvement, but at the end of the day we meet those same dps whores, as all classes, including healers and tanks, that just want a flashy number to upload and increase rating. Hell, i meet people at some raids like Shinryu when they tell that they won't be attacking heart so they don't lose milliseconds of switching between targets and potential uptime loss on dots\whatever
No healer or tank gets any praise when they do their job properly. main focus are damage dealers, who while also have their stress factors, still look like facerollers focused on one thing - DPS, unlike healers and tanks.

This is pretty much by design rather than any fault of the community tho. SE are absolutely to blame for this on a multitude of levels.

You can only tank or heal so well. Beyond that, the only way to expand your skillset is through DPS. The mark of the very best healers is the ability to juggle all of these aspects rapidly and without dropping any of them when things don't go to plan.

I might be the healer in the group that has multiple worldwide HPS all-stars top 10s, but I'd be kidding myself if I thought I was as good as my co-healer or the likes of many of the other incredible healers in my FC.

Ironic that they've done everything they can to avoid parsers and have still fallen victim to them.

This is what happens when you have no in-game measurement of player skill: they find it elsewhere.

My heal partner or me got praised in my static groups for preventing a wipe before. Of course healers get also judged by the dmg they'll do, because as sebazy said you can only heal so well and then dmg is the difference between a good and a decent healer. Furthermore, if an healer has the mindset to do dmg than he will be better at healing in most cases, too imo. Afterall those healers have to be and are quicker, more aware of the upcoming mechanics+incoming dmg and utilise their and the toolkit of the other healer to the best of their ability. Imo people just expect you are a better healer, if you can do a lot of dmg, while keeping the party alive. This is true in most cases, but ofc not all. I've seen "healers" that just do dmg and let the other healer do all the work and then scream "heal!" in voice chat xD

I've seen groups that raid only 2-3 days a week for 2-3 hours in pf on the eu datacenter. Of course, those won't be the hardcore groups, but still those statics exist.

Different ppl have different probs. I've never had an issue finding healers. But I HAVE spent nearly the last 3 months without ever finding a permanent brd/mch. And it's been that way with bards since ARR. (for me, at least)

Just like that. healers have to be this, healers have to be that. no wonder there is a lack of healers in the game, especially decent ones, since effort put into a job is not as rewarding. finally, everyone gets the same crap from the same raid, and most groups will still look out for individual DPS numbers. At the end, they will blame healer for an enrage wipe, because that healer did 200 DPS less than encounter required from raid

it is much easier with bards now, since they made it a good DPS AND support class, while restoring its mobility since HW, but still problem with MCH, that is still much harder to play than bard. also, personally i hate playing bard due to the job design anyway, despite the fact that i usually play archer classes in other mmorpgs, and i am sure i am not the only one with such attitud towards the bard (there are sevral posts demanding a classic archer job)

I totally get that you are upset about it, because over the years i've experienced the good, bad and ugly as a healer and imo healers or tanks for that matter, have to deal with more toxic criticism than the dd role. My advice to you would be that, you don't take it so much to heart and decide by yourself or with the help of other good healers, if the criticism is valid or not.

healer dmg can make or break a run, especially during early prog, since people will die and pay more attention to the fight than their rotation. Thats understandable, but whats imo not understandable is blaming the healer for the enrage, since healer dmg is ignored by the devs when calculating dmg checks or enrage timer as i recall. So tell them that they should focus as a team to get better themselves. Healers should be the first to blame for healing*, despite everyone in the group having the responsibility to mitigate dmg and helping the group to stay alive. But they should be the last to blame for not enough dmg, because as i've said, healer dmg is not taken into account.

* Ignoring Tankbusters, if the tank didn't even use a cd :D

Dunno if you've noticed, but everyone gets put under a lot of pressure in raid content when it's fresh and current. That's kind of the point of it.

The best groups don't blame anyone, rather they look at the numbers and work out where the best gains can be achieved, if the healers are a long way short then chances are this is the easiest approach. I'd wager your example of a group blaming the healers for a 200 DPS under what the encounter required is your own paranoia, the only time I've ever seen anything like that was when the other healer wasn't DPSing at all and the group was short a few hundred DPS as a whole which is very different to the picture that you're clearly trying to paint.

Take away the challenge and pressure and it might as well be Progress Quest.
