Looks like dyslexia is not the only thing OP have, he also have douchebaggery
Do you really expect that a game has the aim to target every single disability in the world at once?
What would be left of the game?
What is with people who are completely blind?
What is with people without hands?
They can't play this game at all. Thats way less than you can do.
Even at work there is not "the one solution" to fit to all disabilities at once. Its always a solution for one specific person.
The puzzle only requires you to match a set of symbols to another set of symbols. Reading isn't needed but counting to 7 is. If your dyscalculia is so bad you can't count to 7, there's a keyboard in front of you that has the numbers laid out in order. For console users you can see the order of numbers in your phone's keypad, a book's pages or a calendar.
Gosh. Is it really a must to be so dramatic? The tone of this thread could have gone very differently if you phrased your concerns properly.
What you could have done: "Hey. I have trouble doing the puzzle because I have dyslexia. Could I get help with it and I would appreciate it if SE could help make it easier for people with my condition in the future."
If you had done the above, then people would have been much more sympathetic.
Instead, you accuse SE of being discriminatory, which is just absurd. I doubt someone in SE suddenly said, "I bet there are dyslexic people playing our game. I hate dyslexic people. Let's make a puzzle that they can't solve."
Just a tip. If you want people to agree with your ideas, phrase it in a nicer manner.
Discrimination?? You sound like them people who always use the race card for whatever they can because they live around 4 walls, because they have something and feel the world owns them.
You're making yourself look like a fool with a thread like this. Get some help if you can't do the puzzle. Just simple as that.
Whoa there killer, step off the special snowflake podium for a second. If everyone took into account every possible disability in the world when creating anything, or doing anything...we'd literally all be dead because it's unfair to someone that we're alive. They gave you all the tools necessary to get it done dyslexic or not. And before you hop back on the "well good for you" deal, I have a traumatic brain injury that affects my short term memory, which makes learning openers and rotations/mechanics extremely difficult...and I'm still here.
Ohhh no, FFXIV discriminates against me because everything is soo colorful and I am color blind. Or better yet, there's no supporting characters in a wheelchair, therefore it's discrimination against those of us who can't walk. Oh no, wait, I just thought of something better - they have Lalafells in the game, therefore they are discriminating against people with dwarfism or down syndrome.
You see how silly that sounds?
It was probably an oversight on Square's part. If it was discrimination, it would have been deliberate. There's no intent here to exclude people with dyslexia. The devs obviously just wanted to make something that was short and fun, and as a way to provide a heartfelt message to its fans about the last 4 years. That's it. Don't turn this into something it's not. Seriously. Get off your high-horse.
This honestly sounds very similar to the person who sued McDonald's because they spilled hot coffee on themselves...because obviously the hot coffee wasn't supposed to be hot, right?
No matter what you have, you lack common sense.
This is not a case of discrimination. Everything in this game is optional which means none of this is forced on you. By using your analogy of a workplace that has no ramps for the disabled is in no way the same. If someone is disabled and uses a wheelchair and is hired at a work place then the employer must do what is required by law to make sure that person has a safe way to access the building.
This is a MMO and if you are having trouble with anything then reach out to FC members and friends for help. If there is no one to help you then look online or use this forum for help.
SE is in no way violating any laws by not giving you the answer to a puzzle game or by making it easier for you. I can understand your frustration as I know several people with dyslexia but all you need to do is reach out for help. Asking for help does not make you any less of a person.... We all need help every now and then.
Thought I was on Tumblr for a moment, oh my goodness me. Didn't have the heart to read through the entire thread so I'll just say what I'm sure has already been said cause I like mountains out of molehills. Not everyone is the same and some folks will have a harder time with activities others take for granted, there is no shame is asking for help but there is a lot of problems with demanding the world (real or virtual) account for every single possibility and make things into one big inoffensive hugbox.
A friend of mine mixes her letters up now and then and she even asked me for a hint. Didn't start shaming and calling ableism on SE. I know it's <current year> but chill out.
Its a call back to old fashion puzzle games in an optional event. Sorry you struggled but if your stuck ask for help from a linkshell, Fc or google. Its what I did and I also suffer dyslexia. I loved the event! I just googled the answer and continued enjoying the event that was really fun.
I wouldn't call this discrimination tbh.
People that are blind will never be able to play the WHOLE game!
Damn it SE, why are you do discriminatory!
---
Stop being offended, please grow up.
I like how OP talks down the people in this thread that DO have similar or the same disabilities and saying that their opinion don't matter since they disagreed.
I guess they just wanted people that would've blindly agreed with them...

If this is not troll post by OP, then wow. Sucks to be you. Grow up.
Nowadays everything where you're not catered to death seems to be "discrimination". And I can understand why: It's much easier to point fingers at others than just to hold on a second, think about it and find other ways to solve things. I wasn't able to solve the puzzle at first, but I simply got some help by looking up a reddit-post which took me like a minute or something.
You can't expect the world (...or at least SE...) to take care of and cater every little problem you have. Sometimes you have to work for things and take care of yourself by solving your problems yourself, instead of acting like an angry child.
May be a good time to have this thread deleted or locked. Nothing in the OP is constructive, not to mention completely incorrect.
I looked up your other post...first, you basically say you've been victimized in another thread, and now you're saying here that you're discriminated against? If you don't go somewhere with that mess... after seeing your responses here, and seeing what you have posted before, I'm starting to think that this isn't a troll post - you are just simply entitled. You act like you are entitled to be catered to. As mentioned in earlier postings, if you want people to hear you out and you want to make actual progress....try not being a douchebag.
Tbf that actually was a legit case cause McDonalds coffee was like triple the health and safety temp standard and the person had 3rd degree burns. all she wanted was her medical costs covered but she was rewarded more. She even claim fault for the spill but the temp was was to high. Look up Adam ruins everything on this for more info. Not really anything to do with Original post but mis information is mis information
Jesus Christ. Why am I surprised someone would try to make a puzzle minigame in a fantasy mmo a social justice issue?
Maybe SE should shut down FFXIV entirely as its very existence discriminates against blind and deaf people.
Last I checked, dyslexics can still use Google. The method used to solve this puzzle along with all the possible passwords have been on Reddit and elsewhere since shortly after the event launched.
Please take some time to think through your problem in future before screaming "discrimination".

That's all I think of when reading this thread.
What about communication and help when you can't do something.
OP is either a troll or some idiotic liberal social justice nutjob. Just ignore.
I have also problem with that , and i was little confused, then i turned back and i saw sphere, which give me a word, so i went to others a saw some are vanished and some remained there, so i checked all and bring all letters to the password and voila. I dont know, but this event is okay. I have really problem with that vampire event last year :) and if you have problem with this event , try to ask people around for advice . Whining about this event how is it created... i dont know..
I don't know what this riddle has to do with Dyslexia or Dyscalculia. I have/had Dyscalculia and was able to solve the riddle as well as every other person, maybe just needed a little longer then others for it.
Instead of letters there could be pictures - would be the same.
You need just to be able to count till 10 or how many letters there are in.
I really like this event. It's not just running to Persona A and B, you have to do something. The last Halloween-Event (I think it was last year) was cool as well - they created a riddle in this Haukke Ini.
If you're not even trying to solve this riddle, then of course you have no chance to solve it.
ps - Your sentence structure is above average, which is remarkable for someone with such crippling dyslexia.
- Uncover the entire 1st map
- Uncover the entire 2nd map
- Write the numbers 1-7 in order on a piece of paper; they are in order on top of your keyboard if you need help
- Go back and forth between floor 1 and 2 with the map open, looking at what each number changes into when you go from floor 1 to floor 2
- Write letter next to corresponding number
You don't have to guess the word - the dungeon gives you the actual answer.
I think you're so focused on defending that you couldn't do this due to your dyslexia that you didn't even consider the solution might be a lot more simple than to guess a word from jumbled letters :/
Claims to have crippling dyslexia preventing them from solving a 6 letter word puzzle. Types with impeccable spelling and grammar. Seems legit.
If your dyslexia is that bad that you cant compete this event then how have you been able to even play this game to be quite honest. How did you get past all the quests that require you to type in specific phrases in order to progress?
This has to be bait. No way this is real.
Some people have physical disabilities that make this game very difficult to play on a controller/keyboard and yet they still play MMOs at their own pace. At least you are not physically impaired and your vision is good enough to actually see the letters to enjoy this game.
I've never once heard of someone with phocomelia complaining to a car manufacturer about feeling excluded because of steering wheels.
Guy makes it sound like Square didn't include a wheelchair ramp at school. Draaaaama.
I'm not trying to be pedantic, but the original post is actually riddled with poor punctation. It might be considered impeccable by the standards of smartphone texting, but not so much by Merriam-Webster. Besides, even if it was flawless, that still wouldn't be reason enough to doubt he has Dyslexia. It's a manageable condition and many professional writers have it.
-.- just when I think the work can't get any dumber the world proves me wrong again... My friend has dyslexia for those of you who may not know Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Also called reading disability, dyslexia affects areas of the brain that process language. Anything that involves reading takes time and patience. This puzzle is all about finding letter and numbers corresponding to the map positions not reading full sentences. Yes the CS may take some time but this is something that all people with Dyslexia can understand. Having someone to help you while a person plays really helps.

As much as I agree that in the future SE should probably take dyslexia into account when creating things like this, you're blowing it way out of proportion. You're not being discriminated against and you can literally just ask someone, anyone for the answers to the puzzle. Not a huge deal.
I mean, I have dyscalculia and I never noticed the number thing so I guess I got lucky? lol. Jesus, some of the replies in this thread though. "Discrimination is part of the natural order" uhh, what?
Not that I'm sticking up for OP because they literally could just ask for help instead of making this thread.
I'm partially blind. I have been all my life. This means that I not only do not have the same field of vision as other players, but I also don't have much in the way of normal depth perception. I get something similar by way of environmental cues and context, but it's not the same as how normal people see.
One of the hardest fights in this game for me was Nidhogg Extreme. During the fireball phase near the end, it appeared to me that all fireballs were in a straight line, even though they were in a pattern. I had to spin my camera angles around rapidly to get some sense of their location, but as you know if you've done the fight, you have to move very quickly and I didn't have the luxury to make those accommodations for myself.
I also didn't want to impact my teammates' ability to clear the fight. I very nearly gave up on it, resigned that I'd never clear.
Finally, I reached out to the Facebook server group, explaining the situation and asking if anyone could help me. Some very kind people stepped up, said that I could mark them during the fight, and follow them when the fireballs appear. I learned how to judge how and when to move purely by learning certain timing in the battle.
What I didn't do, is demand that Square Enix redesign the fight for me, or make it so that future fights didn't affect those with depth perception problems. I hear Sephirot Ex is equally difficult for people who are red/green colorblind because of the colors of the different sections in the battle. They are able to adjust, just as I was, by asking others for help, and also noting the symbols, rather than the color of the floor effects.
SE has made leaps and bounds making this game accessible for as large of an audience as possible. Can more be done? Of course. I once saw a Youtube video of a guy executing a perfect machinist rotation using his feet.
None of these relate to letters and numbers, but you must realize that, in trying to make the event appeal to as large of an audience as possible, it's also possible that some feel marginalized. I wouldn't call it discrimination, since it wasn't done with malicious intent.
This is just a little game. It's a puzzle. It's not something you must pass in order to enjoy the game. You can ask for help, just as I did. And understand that there may, in the future, be some things you cannot do. I will never reach the top of Kugane tower because jumping puzzles and limited depth perception go together like peanut butter and egg rolls.
I'm okay with that. I'm not down here rallying that SE should build an elevator. This event was not designed with dyslexia/dyscalculia in mind. Even a company as large as SE cannot possibly accommodate every single condition of every single player for every single quest. You do what you can, when you can, with others who are willing to help, and you keep on keeping on.
