I hope you are not having a dig at me for posting this thread as if you paid attention the last post I even made in the thread was 12 days ago, I wasn't the one who brought it back to life.
So if threads like this bother you why don't you try not posting in them as your just bumping them back to the top.
You were quick to jump in and post your rubbish. I can post my opinion on any post on this forum. Your quick response however suggest to me that youre monitoring your garbage closely. Your asssssumption btw was wrong their was no mention of it being directed to anyone. Please recast barfire since my post bothered you.
I have not been monitoring it I only looked at it this morning because someone else had brought it back up and then only posted in it now because it seemed people like you and others were having a dig at me so if you think 20 odd hours is a quick response then I would hate to see you respond quickly to something of actual importance. If you even looked at the thread I had only 4 posts in this thread 2 on the day it started including the OP and these 2 now.
Is that better? please as stated recast barfire, 13 pages can cause you to lose resistance. i'm not one to throw jabs at anyone. my staement was referring to the numerous topics that just repeat the same thing. I could have posted that staement in 999/1000 post on these forums and it would have been applicable, sorry for choosing yours.
I'm feeling pretty much the same about XIV as I already feel about XI. I can't think of a single mmo with the same kind of aesthetic. Animations are accurate & have a distinctly restrictive quality which creates not only an awareness of ones own puppeteer responsibilities, but kindly repulses mine eyeballs outwardly. The environments are just beautiful. XIV is the first game I have played that can hold a candle to the environmental wonderland that was laid out in XI. I think they are the two best looking mmos on the market, purely based on the aesthetic. The way the worlds are designed. I mean, the terrain and the restriction that the game places on all the players, it works to the mmos advantage. getting funneled around literally forces us to bump into eachother. It isn't just wide open spaces, its dangerous narrow corridors through outdoor settings. You have to watch your back, because dying means you just lost like 30 minutes of you life but its okay because I enjoy the scenery so much. The way you don't just click and collect collectable resources, the added layer of timed input monotony is all right, at least it isn't mindless button presses. There is a relaxing quality to these games. I have every confidence.
Well, I am still playing and finding enjoyment in it. I did take about a month break from it around January. I used that time to try out DCUO and Rift.
I am happy with the improvements they have made so far. I particularly like the efforts they have made to speed up the UI, crafting, and gathering, and also the huge improvement they made to Market Wards. I kinda think the Sidequests were a "panic" sort of reaction... they just rushed something out to try and placate people, but because it was rushed, it turned out very lackluster.
I don't necessarily agree with the push to make classes more FFXI-like... though I do understand and support the need to make classes more unique. I believe we can keep the armory system mostly intact while still solving the problem. Basically, tweak the system to operate a bit like FF Tactics. Add abilities that are Class-only and also make it so that certain skills can only be equipped on certain classes. For example: Cure could still be equipped on all classes... but Cure II+ could only be equipped on Mage classes and Gladiator (to make a Paladin or Rdm-like character).
I am a bit disappointed we don't have alternate forms of travel yet... I would like to see Chocobos and Airships soon. And, of course, I'm disappointed at the lack of storyline Missions and Quests.
When I'm with my friends, I find the game extremely enjoyable. Even without instances or Missions to do, I find doing leves together and leveling up together fun. But I will admit that when I'm solo, I do tend to get bored after I finish my leves and crafting leves for the day. What I would really like to see is the "town defense" stuff that they have been planning, as that would fill in the gaps well.
Part of the reason I still play is lack of a better option (really didn't care for Aion or Rift, and neutral on DCUO). But when I'm playing with friends, I'm honestly enjoying it. I would go back to FFXI, but I feel it's better to play FFXIV and give my input, and be prepared for content later and be ready to help players who end up coming back with the PS3 release.
The game is improving, but very slowly and everything they add in the game just makes it easier. They are constantly increasing sp and some people are going from 1-40 in just a week. Now we are hearing constant whining about fatigue, so massive sp and no fatigue will probably be coming soon which means 1-50 is doable in just a week or two, or maybe a month for casuals.
Nothing has been done to make combat more challenging, sure we all want new content to do but I say what good is new content if all that stuff is going to be insanely easy anyway.
You guys don't actually expect that this is the pace they're going to be keeping, do you?
All these little fixes we're getting right now are the things that they've thus far finished. If you'll direct yourselves to the first Letter From The Producer, you'll see that Yoshi mentioned that he and the newly reshuffled team were only about 30% complete(excluding any additions) with all the stuff they're currently working on. Things like companies, the new battle changes(however cringe-worthy they may be), and whatever big other additions to his constantly updated list aren't things that are gonna be done in a few weeks. We're gonna be seeing the fruits of their labor during spring/summer. These small updates are hardly indicators of what's on the horizon.
Personally, I was pretty excited about the things the game's website were promising, but I still tried to keep objective about what was being promised, and what we might get. I was dissapointed with the release, it could have been handled better. As far as gameplay and content, it was about what I had expected, despite the bugs. The main storyline sounds like it was well written, and I'm interested in finding out what happens next. Overall, the game has more than it's share of flaws, but they are being addressed.
I think they suffered from Real Time Worlds syndrome (thinking the game would be so awesome at launch that they failed to see all of the problems), the big difference is that they have the money and a new team to fix it.
