That's because bards couldn't figure out how to balance their song use ,or wouldn't. Sadly the development team has to play to the least common denominator. So if I understand you correctly these jobs buff the party ,and thus provide support. I'm sure there are good dragoons out there, i just haven't met them yet. Most I encounter die in the AOE ,or ignoring mechanics before they can pop any buff.

Monk main here, while the story of Stormblood, the trappings, and the presentation of all of it has been great, with the exception of Brotherhood Monk has just been a massive disappointment to me.


The devs said they were gonna be removing and reevaluating all of the useless and underused actions in Stormblood and that really got my hopes up. It's a shame then that they basically didn't toucvh Monk. It was the Job with the most useless actions in Heavensward and ARR, and of those actions they removed two and made a superficial change to one that made it no more useful. Tornado Kick is still criminally underused, Arm of the Destroyer is bad as an AOE and a silence, One Ilm Punch is still useless, Purification has even less reason to be around now that TP costs have been cut, and the only Fist Stance you ever use is Fire now that Weakness and Brink of Death don't cut HP. The Fist Stances are even worse because for some reason the devs decided to expand upon them with the Riddles and Tackle Mastery without actually solving any of the issues with them.

The new actions are all let downs on some level also. Riddle of Earth is just flat out terrible, rather than reducing PB's cast time like they did with the equivalent skills Blood of the Dragon and Enochian, we got Riddle of Earth, an action that literally does not work to maintain your stacks through boss jumps most of the time because it takes too long for the damage to go out or because there's no damage at all. Riddle of Fire is barely a new action, it's just a replacement for B4B that feels terrible to use with it's slowdown. Brotherhood is nice, but it only functioning on Physical Damage and triggering Chakras on Weaponskills makes Monk heavily reliant on party comp in a way that equivalent actions like Battle Litany, Trick Attack, and Batttle Voice don't.

It's damage is pretty decent, so it's not in as bad a place as Machinist or Dragoon, but for what was originally pitched as the poster job for the expansion everything about it just feels like an afterthought that they threw together at the very end because they had to, not something that anyone actually wanted to work on.
