Unless the succubus was moved to my FC house, I call this a net loss. (but not a big one)

So I just did Dun Scaith, and what are people complaining about?
It died in the last 10 seconds for the countdown at the end, and there were way more mechanics than the trash pull. Was a fun fight.
the salt is strong in this thread
It's a for fun boss made during Stormblood's crunch time, we still have the Diadem and story continuation to come, they added the fight to the game for fun. Tell me, do you remember how bad queues for Odin got toward the end of ARR? Everyone had what they needed, so no one did it anymore, this is a 24 man raid, can you imagine how bad the queues for a 24 man? Don't get me wrong, I'm a little disappointed myself, but it's not the end of the world, and I can see them adding the fanfest version in after the feedback anyway.
I'm not going to defend the fight - using it as a replacement for a Pretty Interesting trash pull is kinda lame - but I am genuinely surprised at the meltdown happening around it.
Least of all, because: Proto-Ultima was not especially hyped. We knew it was going to be in the game, sure, but it didn't feature in the trailer, and I don't think it even featured in a Live Letter. Is the ultimate implementation disappointing? Absolutely. But it's not like this is the lynchpin of a patch cycle, here; it's a Fanfest gimmick fight plopped in after the fact, at the climax of an expansion development cycle AND the middle of a two-parter patch. I don't think it can reasonably be extrapolated into the actual direction of content going forward.
But then again, I don't think the game is on any kind of "downward spiral" in terms of content, either, so I may not be coming at this from the same angle.
While I am disappointed the fight was not either it's own trial or harder version of it, I also can't blame them for putting it in Dun Scaith either. They know a majority of people will run it for their weekly drops. So, eh, why not put his weekly for the accessories there too? This could've been handled better that's for sure, but what's done is done. It'll be irrelevant when the expansion hits anyway.
Honestly, I'm more upset with Dun Goof'd being a complete faceroll as a whole. I don't think I've learned a single damn bossfight or mechanic in the 5 times or so that I've been in there, and there's being 0 problems clearing. Today, I got my ass kicked the whole raid and it meant nothing. I think my raid hilariously wiped on Ultima cause of the wow factor, and then steamrolled him on the next pull. Wiping City at least prevented you from clearing if you didn't know the fights
I'm on Primal, not Aether, but my point wasn't really that I personally had difficulty with him, just that people can be really, unforgivably, heinously, atrociously BAD in the 24-man raids. It's not unreasonable to believe that groups could wipe on the DPS check.
Diabolos too, mostly at the end if the Main Tank gets killed from what I've experienced. Not nearly as much now as when it first came up, or as much as Ozma, but it does happen sometimes still.
Having finally done it the fight earlier today it actually wasn't as bad as some here were making it out to be. Certainly think it would have been better as its own trial but not completely uninteresting. A bit more health and (if it doesn't already) adding in an item drop as a possibility like with the Blood Sword and it would be better overall.
I won't lie the fight wasn't bad. I just wish it was it's own trial. They kinda made it sound like it was going to be it's own trial :\
Haven't really had to. Nobody explains anything and everything just dies regardless. I think the fight I know the most is Scathach as it seems to loosely cover the basics of A10S. Probably doesn't help that I've gotten a loot drop every time and only do it once a week.
this game is no longer a mmo. The decision that SE made at start to orient the development towards casuals (nothing against them) was wrong at root. MMOs are games that requires time, so by definition they are not targeted for casual play, there is Overwatch and games alike that are for casual gaming.
When you strip an MMO from its own traits, you have a hybrid that makes both of the worlds unhappy (casuals and mmos players).
Everything in XIV is extremely easy and achievable with so minimal effort and time, that is barely interesting to spend time in.
The open world is ridicolously wasted, you can play the whole game from your FC house. It became a repetitive grinding pattern for what? To get the best weapon for what?
Honestly after playing SE titles for years litterally, this game has become to a point where it just makes no sense to me.
MMOs should have open world as a main trait, quests, difficulty, progression, the feeling of defeating bosses and mobs (not destroyin everything in 1 minute flat), the danger, the punishment for you adventuring a dangerous zone, long term objectives (please dont pull out relic lol..the xiv relic implementation is an insult to players).. i could go on for hours but it'll be pointless because it'll fall into deaf ears. So yeah..this game is no different from FreeCell atm.
How sad.
I like proto ultima's design, and the mechanics seemed like they'd be interesting if it was its own trial with the difficulty upped to Ozma level. But I can't hide my disappointment that it's not a trial of its own. It would have been neat if it randomly replaced hollow diablos as the final boss instead (with the same difficulty as h.diablos).
I guess the dev team might be exhausted and in need of a holiday.
Same. And we subsequently wiped to the third boss. So it wasn't like I had some hardcore raid group going in.
To be fair, I don't think they should base even trash mobs around people who cannot be arsed to press more than two buttons. If they are that atrocious, learn how to play. This isn't leveling dungeons.
I ran Weeping City twice. First was a hideous wipe fest that couldn't get past the second boss. Second was only just before Dun Scaith release to get the clear. I won't be going back.
I cleared Dun last week but am reluctant to go back as it's more of a "8 people trying & 16 coasting" raid where most people are barely able to keep up auto-attack levels of damage or healing. Primal truly is hideous regarding the amount of people who expect to be carried. Annoyingly, some of them must be good players because they often have excellent gear. It's the lack of interest that's the problem.
I'm on Primal too! I had mostly good runs in Dun Scaith as DPS and there was this one where the first set of crystals spawned adds. I didn't know until last weekend those cryatals can spawn adds... >.>
With Proto Ultima and emotions that go straight into the cash shop, I would say this was actually a really garbage play from SE.
I wonder how they'll mess up Stormblood?
You don't even need to kill Proto Ultima to get the quest completion. I joined "in progress" at the last boss and as soon as I left Dun Scaith I got the quest completion for the i270 accessory item.
Perhaps the group I joined had killed him so it triggered for me as well, but I wasn't even in the raid at that point.
I had at least hoped that it would be something like Odin. You know at least story wise a little more than "oh random thing is in our raid, hurry and kill it..". Not only would it have been way more awesome to have this as a trial, but PU also did not fit into the overall design of the raid. I mean we have this nice mhach city and bamm...this thing.
It was also not that interesting of a fight and I want the succubus back, it at least looked sexy. Why put even any bit of developing time into a monster that is nothing more than a trash monster anyway? I mean they could have just given us the weekly quest without Ultima being part of it.
I really thought that this would be some kind of test for new content like true 24 man trials yet it was the same disappointment that I felt after that hyped up Titan fight..that should have been something cool and new and was only Titan with some new text..really why should I feel hyped about anything anymore? Better to just wait and be skeptic..
The only interesting thing of this patch will come on Thursday and yet even that has a weekly restriction if I am reading it right..well at least I wont feel bad when I am playing the new zelda game. d^^
