Honestly I doubt we'll be getting a new race in 4.0. If we were then SE would have been teasing it by now. Unless Unukalhai is going to take his mask off at some point... But he's obviously not a dwarf, or a Viera for that matter.

Padjal can't be a playable race as much as the beast tribes can't. The lore says that they are guardians of the forest and are basically ambassadors between the elementals and people, thats a bit too much of an important role, and having them gallivanting around Eorzea as an adventurer (imagine a BLM padjal) would be slightly lore breaking when it comes to the race.
Well he's from another world entirely, so he could very easily be revealed to be a completely new race that we haven't seen before. I don't know how this would make sense in the story though as he was saved by Elidibus, so if any others were saved with him they would be allied with the Ascians. Of course we still have two major patches for that to change (if Unukulhai is to be revealed as a new race) and it's rather obvious that he's questioning his loyalties as of 3.3 so who knows...
Its also funny that he wrote that maybe putting Viera as a example in the poll might have given it an unfair advantage. And he mentioned that French players seems to like the reptilian option yet Japanese players only have 6% less than them so its also quite liked there.
I am also not sure why exactly some think that beastly race = ugly? I hoped that the Auri would have looked way more like the concept art (especially the women) and they would have still looked beautiful too. Sliders for the horns and maybe being able to change the amount of scales (even having nearly your complete body in scales) would have already been enough to make them look way more beastly. Maybe a more serious/adult face to choose from and it would be near perfect. (The face I have is the only option that made you look a little more serious and its still too cute.)
And I also don't think that a dwarf with a mighty beard would be ugly. But knowing SE they would make nice male dwarves and then mess up the female version by making them cute or something..(Not being cute also don't mean that they are ugly) And its sad that they probably wont do such races because people might not play them that much..isn't variety better than having only races that are played a lot? Especially since anyone changing from one to the other race only means that the numbers are going from on to the other side..on the other hand if you have a great variety of races you might even attract new players that like them?
In the end I hope that if they don't put in really new races that they will give us more options for the existing ones..because I am a little tired of another race with just animal parts or even some mixed ones between existing races..they don't really bring anything new to the table.
Edit:
They could have done so much with the two Auri types. The Raen being the more cute tribe and the Xaen being the more beastly. They live in a nomadic warring way and yet they look the same as the Raen that live peaceful at one place? And isn't it better to have more scales for protection?
Sadly this is something that both genders are suffering from, this game lacks frail cute males, just like how we lack strong fierce looking females. If there is a new race, I hope they go the Lalafell route, where both genders are equall size/cute/strong etc If not, I rather they give us a cute male and fierce females.
Alleo has the best solution to this imho, and thinking about it with the Au Ra at least it makes way much more sense than what we have currently. The Xaela could've more big, tough, and beastly, hardened by their lives as warring nomads, stuff like "features that make you look stronger, bigger, tougher, and scarier" being prized and focused in Xaela culture. While on the other end, The Raen living in a society dominated by hyurs could've focused more on making themselves smaller, look more human-ish, and cuter to integrate better into society (Plus there'd be less of a need to be big and strong when you don't have to fight/survive everyday with fantasy logic). The way it is currently, it looks like the girl Au Ra look like this fantasized version of the Raen and the guy Au Ra look like this fantasized version of the Xaela, and they hardly look like they interact much at all on a daily basis. I'd hope we'd get something that really uses the two clans deal to please both sides of the player base next race.
