That's a ridiculous assertion in a subzcription game.

Look, I'd be fine with the drop rate if it wasn't a limited time event and I could just spend the rest of my time grinding on it off and on, but it's limited time. I still don't get why a "fun and silly" crossover event requires like 30 hours worth of boring dull FATE grinding in order to get everything or why 222 fates (Which again is like 11 hours worth of effort) isn't enough. I mean, is that your response to the dev team chiming in at some folks going "Uh hey the 3rd quest for the moonfire faire is busted, can we have a fix?", saying something like "Snipe those bombs harder, otherwise you don't want the emotes/armor/whatever enough".
Plus the actual phrase "It's a limited event. Not everything has to be able for everyone, especially on a MMO." is incredibly arguable, especially when by in large a lot of people don't have issue with the "difficulty" of this event, just the fact that they'd be spending upwards of 30 hours grinding the same old boring FATEs and it's not enjoyable in the slightest.
The bombos quest is different. It was broken from the get go. Fates grind isn't.
Also:
What do you prefer:
Having to do 700 Fates with an approximative 30% drop rate ?
or
Having to do 700 Fates with a 100% drop rate but with the weapon prices adjusted to reflect that ? ( remember the event is meant to last 2 months )
Regardless, we won't find an agreement about how the event should be or should have been. There is no grey area here.
I managed to do it on an alt and I'm on Hyperion, the place was swarming with people. If I can do it, so can others. See how that sort of rhetoric works?
Also, good job designing an event that lasts 2 months when some folks (Who I'm sure are just brimming with willpower because I don't know how else anyone is going to do this thing) have done it in a few days. It's a dull crap event and folks don't like it.
Seriously, what is wrong with 11 hours worth of grinding? Why is it so important that this event takes upwards of 30 hours? Why shouldn't it take 11 hours to get the mount?
Not sure where the "222" fates idea is coming from.
many people posted ~700 fates with drop rate about 30% to obtain all L. Medals... Which is absurd IMO.
who in the right mind want to grind 700 fates after grinding fates since release years ago? I think players should all cancel sub for 2 months just to teach SE not to pull one of these BS again.
The 222 FATEs figure comes from the bare minimum amount to get all the medals for the weapons. 7 + 9 + 11 + (15 x 7) + (30 x 3) = 222. At the 30% drop figure that makes 740 FATEs, which lines up with that ~700 figure. However, I'm also curious if folks get that amount by counting up leftover regular medals (As that's how I've seen folks count it), because if so, that means the actual amount should be 740 + the amount of regular medals taken to get all the minions, which pushes the percentage lower to more like 25%.
It's about right. it took me 696 Fates for every weapons alone, to that add the 75 required to get every minions. I kept the Watch equipped after i got all medals so i could keep track of the number of Fates i did.
There could possibly be another way Whisper came to Eorzea... but you may not be able to unsee it. Please use extreme discretion m(_ _)m
From a chocobo egg!

It took me exactly the amount of FATEs to get all 13 minions to simply get two weapons (DRK and PLD)
I'm not doing the rest. The reward of the mount and the weapons themselves (aren't even that good looking, imo) make it that this is a bust event for me. I'm not in the mood to FATE grind anymore for events. FATEs have burnt me out of the game mostly because they push on them so much. I got the DRK one because DRK is my main class and it was a part of the grind while I was getting the minions. I actually was able to finish the PLD one on the last fate for minion medals so that's great, but it never was a priority for me to finish.
I still think doing 700 FATES is easier than controlling an uncontrollable chocobo with Tidus or dodging 200 Lightning Bolts in a row as Lulu in Final Fantasy X.
I have several problems with this event.
Firstly: it over-involves FATEs. There are a great deal of us that have done over 5,000 FATEs in the course of our game time and are plenty sick of them at this point and the event is like a kick in the gut.
Secondly: RNG. While the drop rate is fairly high, at about 30%, it does not change the fact that the possibility of someone not getting the mount even after pouring more than enough time and effort into it continuously is present.
Third: the time needed. Some of us have many things to do during the day and only have between 2-5 hours of play a day.
If we want that mount we would then have to sacrifice other content of the game so we can even get a chance at getting that mount. Daily roulettes? Nah, just run 1 or 2 of them so you have time to FATE grind.
Crafting? Nope, takes too much time to get all mats if avoiding Market board, gotta FATE grind. Getting scripts and daily hunts/hand-ins? Dude, you have no time, gotta FATE grind. Beast tribes? Got. to. FATE. grind.
Doing content with friends or weeklies? Hahahahaha, no way man, gotta FATE grind. Palace of the Dead or Moonfire Faire? Sacrifice a little more of the above content for Faire and forget the Palace, gotta FATE grind.
This is of course for those with little time. It would not be so bad but the event has an expiration date.
And those are the problems I have this event in my opinion, please don't shoot me, its just my view of it. I would have enjoyed it much more if GATEs had a hand to play in the event, but we are stuck with just regular FATEs.
This is how often I get to play daily and it took me 7 or 8 days to get all the weapons. All I did was my daily roulette and then the fate grind, so all other forms of progress came to a halt but things worked out.
Spread over two months, I the grind doesn't seem so bad. I'm only focusing on it because I have alts to do.
The ponies can be farmed anytime people want and at least it was some sort of challenge before HW. This is a event which should be for fun and not a mindless grind. Getting this mount is not really hard (at least you don't need skill) its just boring, tedious and on top of that has a time limit and RNG. That is not something that many people find as fun.
There are already enough mounts like the one from Alex or the ones from achievements like the mentor one that people can work for and that will be quite rare but this one should not be one of them. If someone is doing the event he should be able to get it and putting in 11 hours (222 fates with 3 minutes per fate) would be already a lot for an event.
But I am also not someone that has less fun with their mounts just because a lot of people have them ;).
(I am also not feeling proud by owning the second mount..its ugly IMO and was not in any way fun and it also does not really need skills to get it..I had way more fun farming all those ponies..X_X) And yes not everyone can get everything in a MMO, at least not at the time the content comes out. But normally the content and the loot will stay so that maybe somewhere in the future its possible to do so. This has a limited time and it could happen that someone grinds fates everyday for two months and still wont get it because the RNG was bad for them..that is not very nice. I mean you need at least around 4 medals everyday to finish it and not everyone can play 2 or 3 hours a day. At least with older events people could hope to get the items on the mogstation after months have passed but this time we don't even know if its going there.
Even if they would have made it a 100% drop the second mount would still be not that common since not everyone wants to put in that much time and not everyone gets its because it was a event. But at least people would not be punished by RNG if they tried to grind for it, so it would still be a grind but a guaranteed one where you know that you will get something after 222 fates..and not have the time run out after doing 700 or more fates because you could not play every day or even just had bad luck.
Nobody want that someone can do it on the last day in two or three hours and get everything, there is still a middle ground between instant rewards and grinding your soul out.
In the end imo its quite rare in MMOs to have something that will always stay exclusive forever. There are some rewards like the 1.0 ones that will stay exclusive and thats fine but normally things grow easier over time and more and more people will own the rewards. And I see nothing wrong with that because people that got it when it was harder had a time period to feel special about it and after that you will make the other people happy too.
@Ragology: Well you still need to grind at least 3,7 medals a day to get all the medals if you spread it out for two months. So 25,9 a week. If you are only able to play on 4 days that would mean that you have to grind nearly 7 medals a day. If you have a 30% droprate that would make around 23 fates per day. (Hopefully I am calculating this right? XD) Thats a lot of fates that needs to be done to get it. Even if you can play everyday you would need around 13 fates a day to get those 4 medals. And all these numbers are if you have a droprate of 30%. You might get lucky one day but also quite unlucky the other. So really even over two months this does not feel like something fun and if someone has bad RNG it might even be impossible for them if they can only play a certain amount of time.
And before anyone says something, yes I do believe that someone that cant play much per week still should be able to get everything from this event. The two months should have been the safety net for someone that barely plays and not something that is necessary to even be able to finish if you don't have 5 hours a day.
This parody of catch them all requires insane amount of fate grinding in short period of time. In two months I pretty much have to grind the same number of fates I managed to stomach since I started playing the game - which was about a year ago.
Personally I do not like fates. It's even more mind dumbing than hunts and it seems like one of the main flaws of FFXIV. Something that is there to help the botting and gil selling industry. Something to make sure players have no idea how the jobs work when they grind their way to the max level - if they do it themselves... and then there is also that awesome way the game scales the difficult - so much fun entering a zone that has been pillaged by the zerg train.
So my opinion is that if this event is supposed to make the players dislike the game and the whole yokai thing it is doing really great job.
Agreed. Heck, I'm totally fine with some other suggestion that'd make the mount still a tedious pain in the butt, just less one. To me a 100% drop rate, that taking like 11 hours/222 FATES at 3 minutes per fate, was that middle ground. Part of my issue is to some folks the event is perfect as is and shouldn't be touched when obviously some folks aren't pleased with it.
Some alternatives that I've seen could've been -"Keep the RNG, just lower the amount needed for each to 7", that means you need 91 total, and at 30% you're still doing roughly 300 fates.- or "Keep fates as they are, but work some system in so that something like dungeons had a 100% drop rate" which would give players something else to do that also makes early dungeons more populated as well.
I'm just sitting here wondering why further Yo-Kai medals can't be exchanged for legendary medals (like say 10 regular medals per legendary). For a limited time event, one would think would be some sort of fail-safe against RNG screwage.
Would of been cooler if you fought Yokai in a battle like in the Yokai game.
It's not being lazy choosing to avoid doing something that is this games equivalent of bashing your face on the floor because you'd get a cookie at the end of it. Many people have done this version of "content" over and over and over again since 2.0's release.
FATE grinding has not and will not ever be interesting or fun.
"Oh you know all those cools skills and abilites we gave you leveing up? Yeah well go back to level 10 and using 2 of them for hours on end"
is SE ever gonna fix this BS drop rate? feel like dropping this game for good.
All my friends left and the only 2 left doesn't even bother logging on now because the crappy dungeon introduced last patch.
I mean I can see why some people will express their unhappiness. Not everyone has the ability to invest "few hours a day", especially if they work long hours. Aside from that there are things to cap, beast tribe to do,etc. While I'm neutral about this I can also see why people get burnt out by RNG & the monotony.
Yeah, this event is made even more of a pain in the butt if you don't have a group of friends to do it with. Every time I party up with folks on party finder they either get done with that area much much earlier before I do or the group just slowly dies out.
That's the position I'm in for sure and it's why I made the thread =\ Like I wish there was something to be done to make it just a bit less of a pain in the butt. There's obviously options to make this event less of a pain and there's obviously an issue to a good bit of players I'm sure(Not necessarily something "broken" just badly designed imho).
I've gotten all the weapons. There were times I'd slog through no drops but on the end, 30% sounds fairly accurate.
You must be really unlucky, or do something wrong - I have done few fates without the minion... can't summon during the battle Q_Q
I agree with the 30%. Still it should have been better imho. It seems like they couldn't decide if drop chance or increased prices are better and so used both. Unfortunately the dev responsible for setting up NPC for the regular medals that could habe been used to buy the legendary ones must have been on their vacation or something.
But I hope they do not touch it. After this BS it would be a really evil thing to do to all the players who suffered through this painful event. They might need to increase the duration tho - as it takes a lot of hours to complete.
The rules were set certain way - you need to do about xx fates to finish the event - and so it should not be changed during the middle of it. That's fair.
Imagine that they would have said: 1) The drop rare will be 33% during the start of the event, 66% during the mid and 100% during the end of the event.
Many players would have ignored it until the last stage, because they just want to complete it.
Tbh. Were this event without the time limit I would have not touched it at all. The main reason I am doing it is because once it's gone it's gone. But as I said the duration is too short in comparison to the required hours of grind, so they should just make it last till the Christmas or something.
