To me, most of the jobs really seem edit: NOT lore-appropriate to the classes, if we're looking at where the class quests are taking you.
And on the Conjurer side of things, even with the elemental spells in the arsenal, once 1.18 came along, folks started asking for Conjurers to be their heal and buff friend, being asked by name. They don't even shout for "Looking for 2 healers", they just shout, "Looking for 2/3 conjurers".
It's kinda depressing in some sense, I would imagine. As soon as that happened, I would imagine offensive mages would have stayed away from conjurer so that they would never be boxed into the medic/synergist roles.

Black Mages in every final fantasy without exception have always either start with one or all of the following: Fire, Blizzard, Aero, Stone, Thunder, Water. It's pretty easy to see why this decision was made. CON has most of the supportive and healing magic, despite the fact that it also has elemental nukes. THM has all the dark, evil stuff and debuffs. It happens to have one set of heals and basically no other actions whatsoever that are supportive/defensive in nature. You can also level up both THM and CON, set every type of offensive/negative spell from CON on THM and play "black mage", and you can also set every non-nuking spell on CON and play "white mage". -

Well I have a strong aversion to people who pretend to know everything, especially idiots that try to tell others how a game should be played, or people that start sentences with implication they know the other person like "I can tell you", "You obviously have/haven't/won't/didn't/etc..." and so forth, but I would like to ask one thing the people that leveled CON to 50 expecting a black mage, I know it's kind of a dissapointing decision, but is it so bad that you are essentially prepped to have a maxed out healer after a few quests? why is it so bad to have a good selection of healing spells? I understand The grind to get THM might seem daunting, but you're not the only one going through it, so you shouldn't feel like you have to suffer it alone, with the decisions made a lot of people are stuck leveling a THM now, myself included, so gather a party, I"m certain you can find seven other THMs to get a chain party going with, with a static party you can get that THM to 50 in a week.
Hell, I'll be on getting my THM up for the next two days, if you're on Lindblum sunday/monday, /tell me, Zeref Titania, I'll work with you. -

It's interesting. I've read over this thread, and very rarely is anyone interested in discussing the topic. Everyone posted to state their point of view only. Next time I will word my post differently since no one seems to get what I was going for.
I'm also disappointed in the lack of concern for the game's players shown by the community. Most of you have zero empathy for people that don't play the game anymore and you're content with the small amount of hardcore players that are still around. I can't really say this type of attitude is going to harm you; it's just disappointing. To me, for the game to have a great future, it needs to appeal to the masses. It's a good thing the dev team is not listening to my suggestion now because they can get away with it. If Blizzard announced some kind of ability system over WoW and that new system locked Shadow priests into healers only a lot of people would be disgusted and quit. So it's a good thing the dev team is just going to sit back while this topic turns into a community fight instead of pondering my question because the game is in such an early state that the amount of players that will be frustrated will be minimal.
I guess I was just hoping for more. -
