It's actually one of the draws of the game for me that you can make truly handsome male characters. Most games tend to restrict the male options to different variations of "grizzled badass", which just gets kinda boring after a while.

Roes and elezen are ugly imo. Elezen could have been amazing. In 99.9999999999% of every other fantasy games, elves are lithe, elegant, beautiful beings of the forest. But in this game they're half-elf half-giraffe twisted spawns of Satan. If I seem harsh, it's only because I was severely disappointed when I saw them. I love elves and would have rolled one if they weren't fugly.

I had wanted to but I find female Highlanders are prettier. Also, my two favourite NPCs are femroes.

You know, in all honestly, I did wonder this, although I wouldn't use the term 'ugly' exactly to describe ut. It seems almost everyone, save very specific NPC characters, are somewhere in the 15-30 year range. Young people and no option for someone older or, at the very least, some model variation. Like, I know people like to hype up being healthy and fit and SWOLE but...when the entire population is like that, its kind of just a bummer watching the same shape people run around.

Of course, I'm not going to go so far as to ask MAEK MOAR CHARACTER OPTIONS SQUEENIX PLZZZZ, but I can understand how it can be kind of...desensitizing after a while.

It's a bit hypocritical if you think about it.

World of Warcraft had a similar issue with their Troll race back in the day, with many saying how cool they were and such... while never playing one on the Horde. Not surprisingly, most of them were Blood Elves.

I'm actually glad there is no slider for "everything" Square clearly does not want horrible disfigured characters running around, or loli fetish characters, (lala's are borderline) that's why there is only a set amount of options and their will be similar looking characters. But what is "ugly" is highly dependent on the person. Altho not much good can come from someone with pure white lips for example

Before Pandaren, I always gravitated towards Orcs as my main race, followed by Tauren and Trolls for everything else they couldn't be. Once Mists of Pandaria happened, you could say I had a Pandaclysm of my own.

Though, I realize my own tastes may highly influence why that happened and that I'm part of the minority as well. Most players would rather be Blood Elves on the Horde.

I suppose that's why we won't really see any "ugly" races, really. Even now, the majority of the playerbase swings towards things like Miqo'te and Midlander Hyurs. Majority also says Roegadyn are "ugly", but I believe the majority has bad taste. Subjective stuff as usual, but it happens with every MMORPG in existence. An "ugly" race would have to offer some sort of advantage to see a good number of players flock to it, and even then they're usually outnumbered by whatever is the most aesthetically pleasing race around. Of course, this is not the topic for this kind of discussion.

Given the demographic this game is aimed at, I don't believe truly "ugly" playable characters will ever really be a thing.

I, at one time, mained a femroe for a while because I think they are awesome and under represented. But fillerfillerfiller and now I'm a highlander.

I think the female roe's can be one of the more beautiful races if done correctly. It comes down to alot of personal taste though. I know I tend to be more attracted to a six pack rather than just skinny and the femme-roe race represents that ideal more closely then most of the other races.

This is me as an Au Ra, I thought I was hella pretty but all my friends thought I was ugly x.x

I've been every race under the sun except Elezen now, I've felt I've made attractive versions of all of them... except my Potato. My Potato was destined to role play as a Goblin under a mask.

I'd say that's less to do with your ability to make aesthetically pleasing characters, and a lot more to do with the fact it's much more difficult to make a good looking white au ra Raen and much, much easier to make a good looking black au ra Carla.

I think he looks fine. With males, it can get a little bit tricky to get a nice combo that works for most people when playing Raen. I also find with face 1 with certain eyes they can look a bit cross-eyed as Raen, because of their eye shape. I could be biased since my opinion on male au ra is pretty much summed up by this quote:

I generally also feel the same with male miqo'te using face 2; with he right combination of features, they are gorgeous (yay rugged features). I really like the look of most races, and you can definitely get some mingers out there, but races like elezen and roegadyn look so nice. I just can't get past the running animations.
