How is SMN overall dps?

Single target; AOE would likely favor Garuda's Aerial Slash.

The pets seem to have more of an animation lock than a regular GCD. Like Ifrit does Burning Strike every 3s, but if you did a Flaming Crush, the next Burning Strike would come after the animation finished rather than waiting another 3s. I think it's less effective on Garuda because Wind Blade has a cast time.

Suppose you learn new things every day, heh. I'm just worried of using ifrit on Sic because the aoe skill doesnt hit target unless placed on spot X (behind target) and even then, when the target moves you have be constantly moving it. Another option would be spamming the skills whenever not on CD which I guess is better option, at least its not using useless Radiant shield.

SMN damage is not as dynamic as the other jobs cuz their damage is not as affected by mechanics. This means they don't really shine during some mechanics but they aren't really hurt by others either. Overall though, their damage is probably fine. I think the only real issue they have is MP, which is not as bad as MNK's TP problem. MNK has Goad though and since NIN is still pretty OP, you usually always have one. BLM do a bit more dummy damage than SMN but SMN is less affected by movement mechanics than BLM. I haven't done enough tests to see if it evens out, though it would be heavily fight dependent, but SMN's ability to raise and their superior Virus brings more raid utility than Apocatastasis. I remember that SMN benefited quite a bit more from INT pots if used right but I dunno how significant that is now. Anways, SMN SHOULD NOT be doing as much damage as BLM on dummy targets.

MNK's positionals IS as bad as most people make them out to be but it depends on the fight. Some strategies requires the group is stack at certain points around the boss for an extended amount of time and while it may not seem like the damage loss is a lot, it REALLY adds up. You can remedy much, if not most, of this by having good skill and knowledge of the fight but many people don't have that.

MNK and BLM are the most affected by fight mechanics but if you are at the skill and knowledge cap, they can bring out some of the highest DPS. At the cap, BLM is damn OP. SMN and NIN are the least affected by fight mechanics but they have the highest inherent skill cap, meaning their rotations are more complicated. However, once you've played the job long enough, the more complex rotation of SMN and NIN becomes a moot point; whereas for BLM and MNK, a new fight can mean a new learning curve. This is one of the reasons why NIN is OP; they can do as much, though I would argue more, single target damage as MNK but with half of the complications.

When using Ifrit instead of Garuda, do you guys just leave it on Sic? Or leave it on Obey and then just micromanage the AoE skill on demand? I think the other 2 skills are not even used often/ at all?

I haven't used Ifrit on fights for as long as I can remember >_< lol.

If you use it on sic, ifrit will use radiant shield and that is dps loss if ifrit do not take physical damage himself. I suggest bind stun + aoe and use those skills almost every time those are out from the cd. The best time is using those during rouse and spur if possible. And if your target is moving, your aoe attack may not have enough range if you use it on sic. Try place your ifrit inside the hit box every time you need move it.

Is this viable for single target coil fights? I'm thinking the boss won't get stunned anyway so it might be a waste of a skill that does nothing? And will the AoE skill do more damage than the basic skill?

Basic skill have 3 sec recast time and that aoe and stun have like half of that so it is dmg increase.

Using ifrit on Sic makes it spam Radiant Shield + aoe skill which doesnt hit the target so I'd say use it on Obey and use stun skill whenever it pops up.
If you go test on dummy, send Ifrit on obey to dummy (let it find range itself), then use Flaming Crush (aoe), it doesnt hit the dummy.
Square is too busy fixing typos on fishing log and making lalafell NPC's have chairs to fix these SMN things :p This was reported back in July and moved to Accepted bugs forum but it still does not work. But with Ninja/Warrior and Monk, ifrit gains blunt+slash resistance debuffs 24/7, where as Foe isnt up 24/7 for garuda so Ifrit does more dps. Not to mention higher potency because auto-attack+Burning strike.
