I'd like player housing to be more sims like in nature (though I'd be happy with nicely done pre-made options) where you can design and build it either yourself, or with other crafters.

at least everything we had in 11 :D and more wouldnt hurt :D

I want crafter involvement in building ls houses.

LS crafters making/maintaining LS facility's like airships, supply banks, craft support benches, repair tools, decorations, and other functional/decorative items would be a top of the line way to go. It would do well to set FFXIV apart from other MMO's.

I only know of one other MMO that went this route, CoH/CoV, and it was a complete success. EVE Online is also going to take a somewhat similar route in that the houses they were to incorporate will have functional interfaces within their housing.

I think it's safe to say that housing is a very popular idea for us budding adventurers. One suggestion i would like to make straight off the bat is GIVE US HOUSES SOON!! lol

But knuckling down to what I imagine you are looking for when you say suggestions:

At first I was all in favor of personal housing, something you can call you own and maybe even invite a friend or two over. However, after reading a few suggestions, I am growing to the idea of a LS house. But what i have in mind is huuuuge!! It would be great if we all had a garden, and common areas such as living rooms etc. However, each person would have their own room.

This idea kind of rolls both personal housing and LS housing into one. yes we can be social and meet and greet our fellow adventurers in our home. We can also retire to our room, move some furniture around and relax. I must admit, i often loved the idea that furniture had elemental stats to them. If this could be used to some degree that would be super :)

I imagine for personal rooms, some form of instancing would be involved, but if we go along the idea that personal housing is instancing anyway, i doubt this would be too difficult to impliment

With the emphasis on crafting in FFXIV, I doubt a lot of people will be content with pre-made houses.

For those who want convenience...
1) Government housing (pre-fabbed or pre-designed, e.g. FF11's Mog Houses)

For the hardcore and adventurous...
1) Designs - Have a drop box for player designs, make a competition or something...allow the community to submit their best works in the form of 3D models (Make sure popular formats are supported). From those, select a few (as many as possible) to implement in the game. [This will create new fan communities and improve player loyalty]

2) Construction - House divided into sections that require multiple synths using a multiple disciplines and a mountain of materials. [This will fuel the economy for years, if not the entire lifetime of FFXIV]

Other suggestions
1) Types & Sizes - Various sizes from Personal cottages (soloable) to LS Castles (teamplay). Constructing Castles would be a massive project spanning months. Size available to players should depend on the size of LS and/or depend on either individual or LS achievements. [One good reason for cooperative play + Give players a reason to work hard]

2) Storage - What's a house without room for a packrat? Allow furniture to store items, accessible through a single tabbed interface. E.g. Chest, Wardrobe, Cupboard...etc [More stuff to craft!]

3) Visible Grandeur - Allow player housing to be visible to all players. Allow players to invite other players into their houses. FFXI lacked this and it wasn't added till many years after release.

4) Instanced Areas - Do NOT for ANY reason, allow players to build houses anywhere in the land. Just look at Ultima Online to see the result...land rush + spoils map beauty. An area with streets, housing plots will be nice.

5) Single Ownership - To alleviate server load, players can only own one house. If server capacity allows, separate personal and LS housing.

6) Shops - Take player-run bazaars to the next level with retainers based out of player/LS housing. Now we'll have an address to advertise with!

I agree with the post as a whole but this part in particular. While housing out in the world sounds like a good idea at a first glance the reality is it ends up pretty awful. People build houses around certain areas, populate the entire area with houses and then quit leaving a giant ghost town mark on the world. Also if the game does become quite popular how are you going to accommodate thousands (or tens/hundreds of thousands for the sake of argument) of players in the world? Every spot of land would be covered in player housing.

Instanced is the way to go. Each house doesn't need to have its own instance, they could still do towns where they have dozens of houses in place at a time split up into districts like the wards are. You'd need a boatload of districts eventually but it's better than the alternative of ugly ghost towns marring the landscape and eventually not allowing new players to gain housing.

I would love to see non instanced housing but understand that may be asking too much, so... I think we should eliminate the market wards and put our retainers inside our house, we would interract with them the same way but items would be purchased through the search function (appease the AH people) The housing should definitely be upgradable through quests or crafting or both. Possible make some way to put crafting support inside the house, you could rent it or it could cost a lot of guild marks. Also, I think your house should be built in one city and you can only access it from that city.

I would gladly give up being able to own a home if I could instead own a sailboat to sail places.

Yes, I know this is a ludicrous request. Still would be fun though.

I've been very disappointed by the options available to linkshells. I'm a leader of my own linkshell and I find that there are no options at all. All I can do is invite people, remove people, or make them a leader; there's only two ranks, other than the linkshell leader.

I would truly love to see more options for linkshells and housing. Building a base of operations can really bring a group together, and it gives us a place to meet and chat, etc. I enjoyed the guild castle creation on Runes of Magic: members could donate money or resources to help level your linkshell as well as to buy buildings within the guild castle. I don't care about the pvp aspect, but building a castle together as a linkshell would be great! I'm sure the FFXIV team could come up with something more exciting than what Runes of Magic did - just look at the housing from FFXI. I wouldn't want linkshell housing system or personal housing system to take away from other areas of the game, but I'd rather see it sooner than later.

Things I would be happy to see for linkshells:
- cooperatively-built housing for the entire linkshell to share (a castle or a mansion or a underground cave or a tower?)
- 5+ customizable ranks for linkshells
- linkshell banking systems in order to pool resources
- more details about members in the linkshell list (current location, current level/class, afk/busy, etc)
- inter-linkshell trading system (trading resources for resources between "friendly" linkshells)
- linkshell guildleves or behests
- linkshell gear for aesthetic appearances (not tabards, but unique linkshell gear that bears your linkshell crest - jewelry, bracers, bracelets, rings, headbands, shield/helm/armour emblems, etc); not for stat boosts, just appearances
- banners/flags that a party member can stick in the ground to boost the party members belonging to that linkshell
- a Lodestone function to create a linkshell website
- NOT linkshell levelling systems that make linkshells competitive

Bottomline: I love having lots of options and activities for a linkshell. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Linkshell housing with special retainers or a linkshell chest. Can be used to store donated gear / crafting materials that everyone in the LS can share.

Or they could replace the wards with housing districts and allow players to run shops together(a la player-run companies) in addition to having company/player-owned housing, and make the wards REALLY feel alive.

i would love to see additional rooms that you can buy and/or quest for to expand your house and open unique lay out options (e.g. bed rooms, dinning rooms, lounges etc.) as well as extra storage capacity ^.^ and a moogle slave to call my own would be a nyce touch

I would prefer to have my own house and maybe a common room for the linkshell. It would be great to have the crafters
build everything such as the carpenters build the house, the blacksmiths do the lighting , leatherwork and weavers can do window treatments , goldsmiths can do the decorations and we ,of course, need food on the tables lol. I would love to see moogles come back with the mail system. I love the gardening we did before it would also be great if we could do like a small veggie garden outside the house. I like the idea of color on the walls and carpets that would be great too.

A housing system would have to at least launch with functionality similar to FFXI's Moghouses. That would be the bare minimum I would want. More would be better and lots of good ideas have been said already.

Outside of the bare bones functionality, the next important things are: the locations used for it, such as out in the world, in a special housing zone, or just an instanced room; costs, purchase/maintenance, gil/resources; if larger than a single instanced room what kind of designs, player driven or selectable, multiple sizes or one size fits all.

I've been missing my Mog House very much, too..
I sometimes find myself running through the city, trying to remember where the Mog Houses are.. ><;

yes, plz! a cape with LS crest would be neat.

I really wanted to see housing in game, It is a shame it has taken so long and that we have no real detail about it, or if it will definatly be added or how if it will, or even a good hint would be nice i think.
It would also have a lot of crafting potential with decorative items being added, Growing plants would be fun, as i never got to play FF11 i'm really interested in seeing if it is added here.
