Well, yeah. Gladiator, bard, thief. My basic point is that whatever he's been or called himself in the past doesn't rule out his being a thief now, and/or going back to any other job/class.

Maybe she'll be a camel girl.

If the new race were reptilian in nature, they would have a hard time explaining why you weren't being attacked any time you set foot in Ul'dah, or anywhere in Coerthas for that matter. Both Ul'dah and Ishgard are violently anti-lizard/dragon so making a reptilian playable race would be a hell of a stretch that would either require a whole lot of retconning or just completely ignoring/breaking the game lore.

I'm curious about when they make it a playable race, as in what will they do to the story? Will it come in 3.0? Will we not have access to the cutscenes from 2.XX after the jump to 3.0 (like going from 1.XX to 2.0)? If the new race is in 2.XX will they make the race playable only after a certain point in the game or would they make significant changes to the story to accommodate a new race? (i.e. the story so far says nothing about her race and as far as I know nobody in Eorzea knows what race Yugiri is, so having a bunch of lizard people running around Eorzea wouldn't make sense in the current story we have).

Just some thoughts.

I just hope they don't troll us like Tali from mass effect. Mask comes off and she's a hyur with horns.

Her tail does look very Coeurl-like now that I've seen them. Plus she's using Miqo'te animations...now I wonder, maybe she's more like a new race of Miqo'te hybrid, ones who are less generic cat-like and more akin to Coeurls.

They wouldn't have to retcon or break anything. They could include some tension into the story quests so that it makes sense, with the new race eventually proving themselves trustworthy. I know it sounds cliche but the point is that it would work.

probably not, the tail looks too "natural" and chitinous to be tail armor, and the ears are too low on the head to be a sun/moon kitty.

I can confirm this. During the cut scene near the Sahagin aetherite, the weather in the zone was windy. Everyone's hair and cloth clothing were fluttering in the wind, including her long ears/horns. Either that is some terrible oversight in horn physics, or it is indeed long ears.

Ul'dah has a problem with a particular race of lizards not all lizards. And Ishgard is probably going to end up liberated from its opressors and making peace with Dragons eventually

If she's not reptilian then I would hazard a guess that she may be of a rat race like Freya from IX.

I dunno about you guys but my observation leads me to believe its a Viera. Considering Yoshi and Devs are in love with the tactics series, and that many elements of the game are based off tactic lore, and we are hinted that Ivalice is a far away continent.

They could have different quest dialogue for if you view that quest after the race is implemented and you are currently assigned as that race. Like have her mention being surprised to see one of her kin so far from home and so well established. Make her seem more relaxed and comfortable with your presence.

Also, a lot of people keep saying that the "twin tails" coming off her head are ears, but they could just as easily be horns.

Yugiri makes a big deal out of the fact that she covers up so that the people of Ul'dah won't be shocked by her appearance. If you, the player, are walking around uncovered in Ul'dah, speaking with her in cutscenes, and are the same race that she is, those cutscenes will make no bloody sense at all.

There are ways to get around this, I suppose; Yugiri could be hideously mutilated or something, so she's not trying to cover up her race, but rather her shocking injuries. Even so, I think this indicates bad news for folks hoping to get a sixth race to play as.

We've already seen many instances of quest dialogue varying depending on your race, class and legacy status, it's not hard to imagine they'll do the same should you be playing as the new race.

Also for those suggesting she could have horns... I'm sorry to disappoint but horns don't blow in the wind. ;)

For all we know she could have broken them off herself or it could have been something that happened in her past or doing the raid.

No they would not. They have issues with DRAGONS not lizards. Even if it was a dragonish like race their war is with a specific set of dragons that live in the same region that they live in. Not with other intelligent creatures just because they happen to be lizard-like. You're taking the Ishgardian situation far beyond the data Square has given us to make some pretty broad assumptions.

...Mi'qote aren't Bangaa?

Horns don't blow in the wind - but neither does Yugiri's whatever-they-ares. The most you see in any cutscene is the cloth shifting around a bit, and never more than could be accommodated by cloth loosely covering horns. In fact, given their length, if they really were ears they SHOULD have been moving more than they were. Held horizontally like that all the time, and weighted down with cloth, besides? That's awfully rigid for ears. I was undecided before I watched the cutscenes, but now that I have, I'm sure that whatever they are, they aren't ears.

According to the text on the Leafy Seadragon, this is a fish hunted to near extinction by Ishgardians, simply because it looks sort of like a dragon and has dragon in the name. Yeah, Ishgardians aren't too picky about the dragons they hate, and I doubt they'd be any friendlier toward dragon people. This still isn't to say it couldn't happen, but it's nonetheless an issue that needs to be addressed if players are allowed to play as dragonfolk.

Since Bangaas are normally a Male only race Yoshi P managed to keep us on the dark by introducing a Female gender Bangaa.
Because if Yugiri would be of masculine origin and being a lizzard everyone would have noticed right away.

Like this everyone is kept in missbelief about what race Yugiri belongs to.

Also Bangaa > floppy ears !

The only fownside of my speculation is Yugiris feet.
Bangaas have lizzard feet but not Yugiri, either because shes female or maybe Bangaas won't have those lizzard feet because it would be hard for devs to reshape all that armor.

The theory that Yugiri is Bangaa holds up well due to the following:
She has the lizard like tail and floppy ears.
Roe are basically Galka, but don't have the tails and are proportioned a bit differently, as well as miq'ote being less catlike in the face than their mithra counterparts. This leads me to believe that the Bangaa being brought in could very well have the same creative changes done to make them more visually appealing at least in their female form.
Also, there have been past discussion about how armor works in this game and the body proportions the Bangaa are being given may well be to help facilitate making that process easier since if they had their own proportions the armor/weapons team would have to create a set of armor SPECIFICALLY for them which is extra work.

you realize that they would have to completely redesign the appearance of a bangaa race right? so of course the posture an an facial apeearances would be made more pleasing to look at in an mmo. look at female roe's, they dont look anything like their male counterparts almost, because they went with the more pleasing to the eye route. one would assume they would do the same for the new race. the male could be more tough, meaner looking, an the female would be pretty. oh but wait i forgot, you did all the character design an modeling in this game so its "impossible"

I don't know if the artist's comment on already having a horned race implies they think we can't have another. Both Lalafel and Elezen have long pointy ears, so two horned races should be a possibility too.
