Because roulette makes the game more fun for everyone. I don't want to do WP speed runs continuously, I like variety of DR and DR's buff's returns brings it up to par. Playing dungeons in random order is way more fun than grinding the same over and over. There is no viable alternative. The real question is why does it bother you guys to let duo Q in? It'll make DQ better for everyone.

Bah I think Squeenix is trying to incentivate solo play vs making friends. In a MMO. With roulette you can only play with people you'll sure never see anymore. get your tomes and go home, nothing constructive. Dailies, they are solo. Well ok they added party finder and something else you can queue with 7 more persons, so I'm unfair, but still...the game was already filled with solo duties. Story, classes quests. A bit too much for a MMO imho. /rant

What i do, since I dislike playing alone or with silent complete strangers I'll never see anymore, I just don't roulette. Sure I have to farm way more to get the same rewards (counting how much the roulette gives in xp for low levels, 5x more?) but I guess in here you choose if you want to progress in xp/tomes/whatever or in social relations. I chose the second.

I like to play by myself, why can't I solo twintania? Why? Change this SE.

The point of duty roulette is to play with total randoms. That is why I love it, if I rouletted into a group of players who all knew eachother in i90 gear it would take away from the experience. If you already have a group there is already a duty finder function for every dungeon in the game and you already have an easier time getting a group. The idea for duty roulette wasn't to just make farming easier for everyone, if they wanted that they could have just raised the exp/tome drops on every dungeon.

If you let people roulette together the next thing you will see is people shout in Mor Dhona "Looking for high level duty roulette partner. Speed runs!" Or people just partnering up with their FC. Level 70 and 90 gear is already easy enough to obtain.

No the point is to queue up for a random dungeon so people can still experience the low lvl dungeons/not common content and get something out of it. Not being able to duo queue this is just the dumbest thing I have ever seen. If I wanted to play with out my wife/friends I would play a solo game. No reason to force people to solo queue for this...100% no reason. Premades I understand why not, but duo would be 100% fine.

Absolutely no one, let me say that again, NO ONE is forcing ANYONE to solo que. Once again, because you guys still don't seem to get it, THEY DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING THEY ONLY ADDED SOMETHING. They added a solo que option that has some bonuses. The bonuses are an incentive but they were never the REASON that Yoshida put in the roulette. If you want to experience random low level dungeons with a partner then just que up in multiple dungeons. NOTHING IS STOPPING YOU FROM DOING THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!


Again, no one, not SE, not Yoshida, not any other entity that has anything to do with FFXIV is MAKING/FORCING you to que solo.

Pss. Kanye West Style break down... Maybe you are the one who does not understand, getting locked out of content, exp bonuses, Gil bonuses, myth bonuses and philo bonuses because you want to play an mmo(that's the big thing MMO) with someone you enjoy is dumb.

I actually use this MMO to stay in touch with my brothers who are studying in America so I do have people I enjoy playing together with. The thing is you are not getting locked out of content. All the content is still right there are your finger tips. Content = Dungeons not the bonuses that the roulette gives.

Also, are you not supposed to use capitols to show importance on certain words when typing in English?

If a full pre-made goes into duty roulette doesn't that defeat the purpose that duty roulette is there for? Which won't happen if everyone goes in with full parties and still reap the reward off doing so. Two people pre-mades I can understand, but full party? Defeats the whole purpose.

I'm in favor of this idea, as my fiancee and I play together, and she generally doesn't want to run dungeons with randoms, even with the added XP bonuses (mostly due to time, personal choice, and because we've both seen the usual noob/speed-runner/troll/griefer antics).

As for a party DR, I say why not? It would it strengthen the tactics of groups that play together (by essentially dropping them into whatever given instance and having them work together just like randoms would have to.) Basically walking into an uncertain battlefield with a team you can trust.

DDs would appreciate me(WAR) and my gf(WHM) joining DR together. Altho I'm sure they appreciate it either way. We try to queue DR at the same time. But unfortunately I always instant join a group and she waits for 5 mins usually, or more. She use to get in instantly for stuff as well but not so much anymore. There are times I can join her, there have been several instances where she joined a DR, and due to some failure on the DDs part the tank leaves, so I just join in progress, and usually get in to play with her. Sense the devs had this idea already in mind and are working on it, I really really hope it makes it into the end of the month update. I miss doing these dungeons with the lady, now that we get more for doing roulette, we kinda have to sacrifice that, so we can get the grindy part done a little easier.

You are not being penalized. Nothing is being taken away from you. You are not being inflicted with retributive penalties or punishment. Your choices are prohibiting you from taking advantage of certain benefits. The simple fact that you have friends with whom you enjoy playing with allows you to complete content to which someone just trying to get through story line dungeons without the aid of a large group of players has trouble even gaining access. Thus, Duty Roulette. Incentives are just that; they are bonus rewards put in place to promote the helping of others. There are several analogies that could be made, but I'll leave them alone for the sake of courtesy.

I think Noah's point was that he didn't specify partials or not. ie only 1-3 players for a 4 man? Or 1-7 for an 8 man? It just wasn't specified.

Well personally even if we are able to do full four man or 8 man parties, it's like someone above said, I think it would be fun to be thrown into a random dungeon and see how we are able to do.

My personal opinion is that the more you have in your party, the less reward you should get. Mainly because you're reducing the chance of failure by getting people you know to go with. Plus reducing the potential amount of "younger" players you help at any given time as well.

With a full organized premade group you have the luxury of doing 10 min speed runs. Something that doesn't exist with df pug which will take 30-40 min to finish on average. I thought the whole point of DR was to give an extra reward for someone who queues solo because due to the randomness of the group it takes 3-4x as longer then with a premade.

All this "Its purpose is to make solo people players play with other solo players" kind of argument, was just a fantasy of yours and never the original intent.

Anyway, putting every personal opinion aside, you can't say they are Killing the purpose of their invention WHILE they are telling you it wasn't.
That's absurd!
At least say you don't like it that way, but don't talk about breaking nonexistant original concepts.

I ment for the daily myth bonus. Let's 4 man party for the 90 myth and not actually help the people who need help with higher level and lower level stuff! If even one person ISN'T deck out in coil/myth it's probably for them. Y'know, that singular DPS who has to wait 2 hours for a party? If he lucks out with 3 myth/coil geared people in order to get him past that dungeon, lucky him.

The point of roulette wasn't to help those poor DPS who have 2 hour que times for dungeons get it at a faster rate? And for those trying to complete storyline or hard mode dungeons get parties as well? If the only point of the roulette is to give extra tomes and not help what's wrong with dungeons in the first place (terrible wait times for DPS, not enough tanks and healers), the game really is ezmode.

I never said it was made to make solo players play with other solo players. What it was ment for (and the reason for the bonuses) was to help wait times for people who DO need help queing for dungeons. You ever try queing for a low level dungeon by yourself pre 2.1? You'd be waiting 3+ hours since NOBODY did those dungeons anymore. They didn't originally make roulette to just go "DUH, HERE'S FREE TOMES FOR DOING WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO ANYWAYS WITH A FULL PARTY". The reward was for helping those that really need it.

As long as it doesn't allow you to que with a full party (leaving a space for a dps as a requirement or something), this isn't that bad. The problem was how vague the mod was with how many people it will allow you to que with.

Since the roulette it has been much easier to get groups. Allowing people to join as a party will take us back to the situation where DPS and to less extend healers are going to be waiting extremely long periods of time to get anything. This can be extremely problematic for anyone trying to do content which is required as part of the story.

I'm going to level a warrior eventually (PLD so boring) but I don't think this should be a requirement to getting instances within a reasonable amount of time.

Read number 2, my exp gains are slower, my Gil gains are less, my myth gains are less, my philo gains are less when I want to duo queue. Is that not a disadvantage? Is that not a handicapped reward ? Aldo since when did you know the devs intentions, I believe the system is in place to let us run through content we never use anymore and make dungeons a better way to lvl.

As a developer in training, I actually like these kinds of suggestions. Things that are obvious to some may not be obvious to others. So to the OP and anyone who makes a friendly suggestion, I say thank you.

So a vague "we're working on it" means you are getting what you want. Will a pre-made party get the same rewards? Who knows?

Some complain about the lack of rewards, some the lack of the roulette factor. Different arguments. You can have roulette for parties without the same rewards and people will still complain.

Nope, it's not. Because you're not prevented from doing it. It's called an opportunity cost. You choose to do one over the other, as such losing the benefits of the one you chose not to do. The thing is you're saying that you and your friends can't do dungeons fast enough to beat that bonus, most groups of friends can.

So, Penalization? No. Opportunity Cost? Yes.

It would be nice to do dailies with my fiance. She doesn't have much time to play and it's hard to set up a limited time frame to do something and feel like you've gotten anywhere. If we could get the daily bonus reward together, then she might actually be encouraged to play with me a bit more.

I'm not saying it will happen, but it's possible they may reduce the bonus for each person you add before queuing, who knows.

It's all very well letting people do roulette with their partners and friends but why not just use normal DF? The whole point of roulette (At least my interpretation) is to stop the common MMO situation where lower content becomes obselete because there is no incentive to do it. Allow people to do it in parties then it may as well not exist.

While I agree with both sides of this argument to an extent (wanting to do roulette with my significant other moreso, but I'm leaving bias out of this post, as best as possible), I do want to say to the people arguing Roulette is "for the lower level people to get help" and the like arguments there, 99% of the roulettes I go into are with full 45+ players, even low level roulette, we're all four in our jobs, with at least some of the artifact gear, if not all+some philo/myth gear. I don't think we're really helping all that much as it stands now aside from the extremely rare circumstance.

Ok i give up trying to explain how when i am in a party the duty roulette option is not clickable (aka locked out, or some might say... Prevented from using this feature when in a party O.O). But, you are telling me you would rather take a bunch of friends and run 1 lvl 20 dungeon 3 times? I don't know about you but that is what i call boring.

The only point of DR is to get more 'high levels' into low/mid instances to help newer players who can wait ages in DF. Putting pre-mades into DR is giving them extra rewards for not being sociable beyond their own little clique.

You also hugely exaggerate when you talk about 'walking into an uncertain battlefield' LOL,, no different from doing it via pre-made DFs but you're not helping anyone else so you don't deserve the rewards.

Love how people keep crying about the fact that only FULL groups will queue together if they allowed this change. Maybe someone just wants to play with one other.. so that means there are 2 people that can still be "helped" while having fun with a friend.

Yeah yeah there WILL be groups of 3 or 4, but the majority of people will not. I for one usually play solo and i'm sure many others out there do as well. Not saying we dont have friends (which might be the case for some) but its just that they are not always on.

Well I think it would simply be silly to even allow two people to party up but if they allow a full part to que and still get the same bonus they just made roulette all about getting rewards faster and not about helping low level people. I don't think they should allow it but if they do I will be queing up with full part of FC members and racing through content for the bonuses.

You guys might want put some more thought in to DR. maybe it doesn't exist only to decrease DPS queue times. Also, you you assume duo Q DR will be less effective at reducing DPS times. I can tell you as a tank, i would DR much more often if I could play with friends. We dont' yet know how it'll effect Q times, stop pretending like you do.
