ANOTHER MAINTENANCE TODAY!

I used to be one of the people who said "Stop complaining about maintenance, you can just do something else" when I played other mmos. Then I started working full time; now it is clear to me that everyone who says to not complain about maintenance times either don't live on the west coast or live at home with their parents and don't work. To be clear, it sucks going to work all day and coming home to be slapped in the face by yet another emergency maintenance. Most of us who work (west coast especially) come home and can only play for a few hours when there is NO maintenance. With maint at these times, we can usually only play less than one hour. These maintenance times hurt. I'm not someone who will say "give us more sub time" but it would really be nice for them to push it to say...1 am west coast time for once? Us losers with jobs will all be asleep by then and then the cool kids can stay up and play when that maintenance ends.

As for students who still have time to play at night, think of it this way. For us working adults it feels something like if you studied all day and pulled an all nighter to study for a killer final, and as you sit down at your computer the next day happy with the C- you probably got on it you notice that the game will be down in less than thirty minutes, and would stay down until you had to sleep. But the imagination part comes into play now: You actually have to study and take a final 5 days a week for the rest of your life. That's how we feel.

Because we are clearly playing a western game on a western time schedule. We only request that they possibly change up the times once in awhile, aka pushing it back even 1 hour is good enough.

hell I live on the East coast and I dislike these Maint hours I work 4-1 daily, when they are having frequent maintenance it would be an idea to appease their customer base a bit by varying the maints, to not slam the same group over and over with the downtime.

That's it...we're the only ones getting slammed. People want to start saying that "Square enix does it when it's convenient for them" but WE are the paying customers. Are we paying to make it convenient for Square-Enix?

I think you failed to see my point mister/misses flamey. Posts like this make me laugh because north Americans think that if they cry enough they will get their way (I'm North American btw so settle down) but I'm sorry not everything should be catored to us. ;)

No, they are scheduling it to maximize player convenience, and it is obvious.

Look at the scheduled maintenances, and consider which primetime around the globe it impacts the most.

Australia/Oceana.

Now, consider which time zones around the world have consistently contained the fewest subscribed player number for the average world-wide MMO.

Australia/Oceana... again.

just my two cents but I for one would rather they get this game relativly stable before they put patch 2.1 out next month. honestly because that will introduce new content they will have to iron out the bugs of which will just add to the issues if they don't work em out as quickly as possible.

yeah I am a bit miffed they have to do these maintanances this often but really I would rather they be on top of this stuff

to those of you who think this is bad you really should have seen some of the bad maintanances XI had.

maintanance to introduce new content
--->patch takes hours because update servers are lousy
-->update complete
-->5 minutes into playing "we will be performing an emergency maintanance in 1 hour -_-
--->rinse--->repeat and this happened often.

You are right. Not everything should be, but so far nothing has been catered to us. Which is my point. And if you think any part of either of my two previous posts is flaming, well I don't even know what to say.

I'm happy that they're addressing problems so quickly. It's a nice change from other MMOs I have played. Good on them.

But it makes me wish that I hadn't started playing the game yet. I should have waited a few more months before starting.

I understand that most newer MMOs have a lot of maintenance/downtime, but FF14 has an excessive amount IMO. It feels like most of my money(sub) was spent on maintenance instead of playtime.

I already mentioned a much more reasonable time frame which would only affect the following people:

The unemployed (all countries) (irrelevant, the unemployed should be finding a job).
Students playing games when they're supposedly "studying" (US) (also irrelevant, because Students).
Off shift workers (US) (a minority group compared to everyone else)

EDIT: and while it's not hard to find the correct time, I'm pretty sure the NA notice was in GMT not PST earlier, what was the point in changing it?

You getting to play the game isn't enough? I hate to be that guy.. but as the tos says they can bring down the servers anytime they wish...

We are not complaining about them fixing the issues...we are wondering if the times they are picking make sense for the majority of the players. These are not "TRULY" emergency maintenance issues or they would shut the servers down right away (that is an emergency) they are planning these times and the times that they are planning them suck for a ton of North American players. So there is a difference...we are not trying to be jerks here...we just cannot swallow the fact that North America is the one always gettting the short end of the stick...there needs to be some "rotating" of the maintenance times so that it is fair.

That's funny because I actually didn't get to play today. Yes it is their game they can bring it down whenever they want. I am not demanding they cater to us, I can't demand nor request anything from SE. I'm only hoping that they are more willing to think of their NA fanbase that has to come home from a 9 to 5 (9 to 6 in my case) work day, driving an average of 40 (maybe more with traffic) minutes to get home, cooking dinner, eating dinner, and taking a shower, which by the time those basic necessities are completed is already 9pm before we can sit down relax and play.

By that schedule, on non maintenance days we can play a few hours before sleeping and on maintenance days normally occurring at 11 or 12pm, that is 2 hours at the most. Do you work and take care of yourself Rawry? If you do and don't mind only being able to play 1 hour or less on maint/emergency maintenance days which occur much more frequently than once a week, then I applaud you. For most of us however it sucks and I hope you understand that we do not just teleport home when we get off work at 5-6pm into our computer chairs with final fantasy 14 already open and in a dungeon with 3-7 other players waiting for us to play. Just factor in 30 minute duty finder times for those who work and only have dps classes.

I don't know what you are trying to get at by constantly trying to play devil's advocate with me, but my point still stands and I know others who work fully understand me. The fact that you don't just hints to me that you are not your own caretaker. However if you are, then I apologize in advance.

It's called voicing an opinion. And I hate to break it to you but for those of us who work, it isn't whenever we want. It's whenever we CAN. This is the main point I have been trying to get you to wrap your head around, and it is also the all-inclusive point of these threads; that many of us can not play when we CAN. I think you don't fully understand why people make these threads. It isn't because they played all day from 8am to 9pm then complain because they can't play anymore. It's people who haven't played all day because they CAN'T then come home and STILL can't play because of maintenance times.

Anyway this is my last post for today because, well I actually have to sleep for work tomorrow.

Nobody cares about your WoW problems, WoW was only down ONCE A WEEK.

FFXIV is starting maintenance as soon as some people finish work, then it's back up when they need to sleep and repeat another dull work-day. Get over yourself, not being able to play every 2-3 days? you're damn right they should do something about it.

These maintenances only annoy me when I have an early shift at work and can't play before I go. But I would rather have them relieve the stress on the servers than them blowing up. Literally, servers can catch fire if they run too hot.

The maintenance improves the quality of the uptime.

Furthermore, the quantity of players experiencing downtime is at its lowest with their most common scheduling, therefore the argument is moot.

In the end, not changing their chosen time of days for maint is among the best decisions they could make on the matter, and history suggests that in time, the frequency will more than likely become reduced.

I still find it funny that some people here really believe that more issues are getting resolved when they do four maintenance a week compared to one. Guys, at the end of the week, the same amount of problems are going to be fixed.

The only difference is how long those problems stay live on the servers. Since most of these maintenance's are already scheduled for 1-2 days out, they are really not that critical to fix right away anyway.

I don't even see what bugs/issues they've fixed over the past week. Besides a couple of turn 5 fixes (did they really need to do global maintenance on content that less then 20% of the population is doing?)

Not to state the obvious or anything, but they give a heads up so people don't complain when they get kicked from something important, you know, like people would do if SE didn't announce anything?

Just because you don't experience the bugs before a maintenance doesn't mean they aren't there. Someone found the bug, someone reported it (oft times not the same someone) and Square fixed it. This is how I hope my monthly fee is being spent, improving the game so that they can move on to future content. I don't mind waiting for said future content if it means the game isn't going to implode at that time.
