If you have a Security Token and you get hacked SE will work to recover your account and put things back together (within reason) and after an investigation.
If you are hacked without a Security Token then I suspect there is little SE can or will do unless you get a Security Token. They sell them for very little cost so I don't see the need to skip it.
In most cases at least in the case of FFXI many people get hacked by using those sites and giving out character info or installing software with keyloggers from the site (which a Security Token can help protect against)
The main jist is, use secure passwords, keep your information private and use a Security Token.
Hacked implies you had no part in the thing. The victims were either keylogged or put their info to a website they shouldn't. No one brute forced their way into their accounts. They were not hacked, they were stupid, there is a difference. Can we please stop using the term hacked and start using keylogged. This way people will get the proper implication when entering a thread about it.
What if RMT send gil mail to random people? to try to mess up everything for SE?
They won't be able to do that. To even send someone anything, they have to be on your friend's list. It's the exact reason they have that.
That is what I do, but you can't expect every single person on the internet to go to such extremes or even know that such exploits exist in the first place.
Again not everyone who is hacked or "Keylogged" was doing something wrong on the internet the outright disdain I see in this thread is odd. I can't see why you would say that anyone "Deserved it" might as well say that someone was asking to get robbed because he walked down the wrong alley in a town he doesn't live in.
For anyone who doesn't want to pay for a physical token or if you don't have a smart phone, there are Android emulators you can use on your pc. I was looking into them awhile back and they can run most apps. I'm not 100% if the authenticator will work or not, but it's worth trying out if it's your only option. I think the one I used was called bluestacks but you will have to do some research to see if there are better ones out there now. Hope this helps!
